This year we have continued with our now main services of 1:1 and group Play Therapy and our free youth workshops. We have built a reputation for providing mental health support for children aged 3 -12. We have collaborated with several charities and schools both to help support children and young people but also with consultation, advise and training. We secured two large grants this year towards out Youth workshops and 1:1 play therapy. The Play Therapy funding meant we continued to work in 4 schools and gave new opportunities to 2 other schools. we also used the funding for a PSA training session to allow skills development for staff on therapeutic play for those with additional support needs. This is something we hope to build on next year.
The funding for our youth workshops meant we could continue to offer 4 sessions a week at no cost across Kinlochleven and Ballachulish. These were available to nursery, primary and high school aged young people. We saw an increase in parents attending with their children and younger preschool siblings, which was brilliant. Approximately 65 young people attended weekly sessions.
The demand on support amd advise to schools meant there was less time to work on our sales from art inspired goods. Therefore we saw a decrease in this but the priority was on services to young people. Several schools have enquired for support but funding is limited and they do not have a budget to fund the sessions. We aim to look at ways we could possibly find match funding in partnership with otehr organisations next year.
Weekly evening adult pottery continues with now a regular attendee now saying they will volunteer to support the sessions. This is a great result as it will enable our sessional work to have support in both preparation and delivery.
Casan Beag the Gaelic Playgroup we support continues to thrive we our wonderful play leaders passion and enthusiasim. It is the only Gaelic playgroup in South Lochaber and families attend from a variety of communities.
