In addition we have introduced two new income streams through events and consultancy. With dedicated staff in these business areas we are working towards a better financial position for 2026 and beyond. - The board are working closely with the Senior team to apply for grant funding in addition to the above to cover some core costs and enable us to rebuild our reserves in line with our reserves policy.

Report of the Trustees
OBJECTIVES AND ACTIVITIES Message from CEO Helen Denny
Reflecting on the past year at The Melting Pot, we're proud to share some of our key achievements and moments that have defined our journey.
Strategic Growth and Leadership
Since launching our five-year strategy in November 2023, our ambition to position The Melting Pot as Scotland’s flagship Centre for Social Innovation has continued to gather momentum. Over the past year, we have strengthened governance through the contribution of our trustees, sharpened our strategic focus on inclusive, place based enterprise, and diversified our income streams across consultancy, partnerships and national programmes. A significant milestone has been the formal launch and growth of Connected Hubs Scotland, a national network bringing together independent coworking hubs across urban, rural and island communities. We have increasingly stepped into a convening and connector role across Scotland’s ecosystem, bridging sectors, geographies and communities to unlock collaboration and shared solutions to complex challenges.
Community Engagement and Events
Connection remains at the heart of what we do. Over the past year we have hosted and supported dozens of events, from member-led gatherings to large-scale cross sector conversations, welcoming hundreds of participants into our space and programmes. Our Bridging Communities series has continued to foster meaningful dialogue between entrepreneurs, social enterprises, funders, academics and public sector partners. We have also championed ethical enterprise and creative collaboration through initiatives such as our Buy Social Fair, spotlighting purpose-led businesses and encouraging conscious purchasing within our community. In partnership with Creative Edinburgh, we have supported emerging artists and creative practitioners, strengthening the intersection between culture and social innovation. Events such as Creative Collisions, delivered alongside Scottish Women in Business and Glasgow Girls Club, have created energising spaces for connection, visibility and peer support. Together, these collaborations ensure our community remains vibrant, values-driven and deeply connected across sectors.
Programmes and Enterprise Support
This year also saw the delivery of our Good Ideas programme, supporting 16 purpose led entrepreneurs to develop and test ventures rooted in lived experience and community need. Through structured workshops, peer learning and tailored support, participants strengthened their confidence, business models and impact pathways. Alongside this, Enterprise in Place was launched, a programme that models inclusive, locally-rooted enterprise support, working with community connectors in Glasgow, Lanarkshire and Dunoon to reduce barriers and widen access to entrepreneurship. Across all of our programmes, we remain focused on ensuring that people affected by the challenges in their communities are best placed to shape and lead the solutions.
Consultancy and Partnerships
A key development this year has been the launch and growth of our consultancy offer. Drawing on nearly two decades of experience in social innovation, community building and ecosystem development, we have begun working with clients including Changeworks and the Law Society of Scotland, supporting them with facilitation, strategy development and inclusive engagement approaches. This work not only generates sustainable income but also extends our influence beyond our immediate community sharing our expertise to strengthen systems change across sectors.
Commitment to Equity, Diversity and Inclusion
Our Equity, Diversity & Inclusion commitments remain central to our strategy. Across our programmes we have prioritised reducing barriers to participation, widening access to entrepreneurship and embedding inclusive design from the outset. This is not a standalone strand of work, it underpins how we design programmes, host events, build partnerships and shape our space.
Looking Ahead
As we move into the next phase of our strategy, our focus is clear:
-
Strengthening Connected Hubs Scotland as a national collaborative network
-
Deepening place-based enterprise support in underserved communities

FINANCIAL REVIEW
Reserves policy
The Trustees consider that the charity should have free reserves of around £145,500 to cover redundancies and other expenses in the event of winding up, as well as 3 months of core costs. Free reserves are the total of general funds less fixed assets. The amount of free reserves at the end of the year fall below that level.
With net liabilities of £123,143 (2024: net liabilities £30,143) The Melting Pot is insolvent.
Free reserves amount to a negative £147,066.
It should also be noted, that the wholly owned subsidiary of The Melting Pot - The Melting Pot Trading Ltd made profits in the year to 31 October 2025 of £23,371 (2024: £6,838). These profits are due to be paid to The Melting Pot under Gift Aid rules within 9 months of the year end.
The balance sheet position is a concern and the Trustees continue to monitor the situation to ensure that the charity will be able to continue as a going concern for the next 12 months (from the date of signing the accounts)
As detailed above the Trustees have put various actions in place, they have reviewed cash flow forecasts and the assumptions behind them, based on this they have concluded that the charity will continue as a going concern.

Independent Examiner's Report to the Trustees of The Melting Pot
I report on the accounts for the year ended 31 October 2025 set out on pages nine to twenty one.
Respective responsibilities of trustees and examiner
The charity's trustees are responsible for the preparation of the accounts in accordance with the terms of the Charities and Trustee Investment (Scotland) Act 2005 and the Charities Accounts (Scotland) Regulations 2006 (as amended). The charity's trustees consider that the audit requirement of Regulation 10(1)(a) to (c) of the Accounts Regulations does not apply. It is my responsibility to examine the accounts as required under Section 44(1)(c) of the Act and to state whether particular matters have come to my attention.
Basis of the independent examiner's report
My examination was carried out in accordance with Regulation 11 of the Charities Accounts (Scotland) Regulations 2006. An examination includes a review of the accounting records kept by the charity and a comparison of the accounts presented with those records. It also includes consideration of any unusual items or disclosures in the accounts, and seeking explanations from you as trustees concerning any such matters. The procedures undertaken do not provide all the evidence that would be required in an audit, and consequently I do not express an audit opinion on the view given by the accounts.
Independent examiner's statement
In connection with my examination, no matter has come to my attention :
-
(1) which gives me reasonable cause to believe that, in any material respect, the requirements
-
to keep accounting records in accordance with Section 44(1)(a) of the 2005 Act and Regulation 4 of the 2006 Accounts Regulations; and
-
to prepare accounts which accord with the accounting records and to comply with Regulation 8 of the 2006 Accounts Regulations
have not been met; or
- (2) to which, in my opinion, attention should be drawn in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.

Notes to the Financial Statements for the Year Ended 31 October 2025
1. ACCOUNTING POLICIES
Basis of preparing the financial statements
The financial statements of the charitable company, which is a public benefit entity under FRS 102, have been prepared in accordance with the Charities SORP (FRS 102) 'Accounting and Reporting by Charities: Statement of Recommended Practice applicable to charities preparing their accounts in accordance with the Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland (FRS 102) (effective 1 January 2019)', Financial Reporting Standard 102 'The Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland' and the Companies Act 2006. The financial statements have been prepared under the historical cost convention, with the exception of investments which are included at market value.
The accounts are presented in Sterling which is the charity's functional currency, and rounded to the nearest pound.
No changes have been made to the basis of preparing the financial statements this year or to the previous year's financial statements.
Going concern
As discussed in the Trustees Report on page 5, despite a very difficult year, the Trustees have considered the position in relation to going concern and have put plans in place which have allowed them to conclude that the charity will continue for the next 12 months, therefore the accounts are prepared on a going concern basis.
The Melting Pot Trading Ltd (a wholly owned subsidiary) made profits in the year of £23,371 (2024: £6,838) and continues to gift aid these profits to The Melting Pot on an annual basis.
Accounting estimates and areas of judgement
The preparation of the financial statements conforms with the requirements of the Charities SORP and general accepted accounting principles. The only area in which it is considered that accounting estimates and areas of judgement have been applied is depreciation, the policy on which is outlined below.
Income
Grants and donations are recognised in full in the Statement of Financial Activities in the period in which they are receivable, provided any conditions for use of the grant or donation have been fulfilled. Where a grant or donation is received for a specific purpose, it is included within restricted income and any unexpended portion carried forward as a restricted fund. Income from charitable activities includes income received where entitlement to grant funding is subject to specific performance conditions and is recognised as and when it is earned. Income from non-charitable trading activities and fundraising is included under other trading activities.
Expenditure
Liabilities are recognised as expenditure as soon as there is a legal or constructive obligation committing the charity to that expenditure, it is probable that a transfer of economic benefits will be required in settlement and the amount of the obligation can be measured reliably. Expenditure is accounted for on an accruals basis and has been classified under headings that aggregate all cost related to the category. Where costs cannot be directly attributed to particular headings they have been allocated to activities on a basis consistent with the use of resources.
Tangible fixed assets
Depreciation is provided at the following annual rates in order to write off each asset over its estimated useful life.
Improvements to property - 5% on cost Fixtures and fittings - 25% on cost
Taxation
The charity is exempt from corporation tax on its charitable activities.

1. ACCOUNTING POLICIES - continued
Fund accounting
Unrestricted funds arise from donations without a specified purpose and other income generated and are available to be used for any objects of the charity at the discretion of the trustees.
Restricted funds are to be used for specific purposes as laid down by the donor or funder. Expenditure which meets these criteria is charged to the fund, together with a fair allocation of management and support costs.
Pension costs and other post-retirement benefits
The charitable company operates a defined contribution pension scheme. Contributions payable to the charitable company's pension scheme are charged to the Statement of Financial Activities in the period to which they relate.
Gift aid payments from subsidiary company
The Melting Pot Trading Limited (a wholly owned subsidiary of The Melting Pot) pays all its taxable profits for the reporting period to its parent charity (The Melting Pot) under the gift aid scheme. These gift aid payments are recognised as distributions to owners in equity within retained earnings in the accounts of The Melting Pot Trading Limited.
At the reporting date there was no legal obligation in place for the company to make this gift aid payment, although prior to the reporting date the board have indicated their intention to pay the taxable profits to the parent charity in respect of the reporting period. The payment is planned to be made within 9 months of the end of the reporting date.
Gift aid donations from the subsidiary company are recognised when paid per SORP FRS 102.
VAT
The Melting Pot is VAT registered and income and expenditure is recognised net of VAT.
