What is The Fake Shop?
Given the rise in High Street vacancies, there is no shortage of
potential venues for this initiative. The charity proposes repurposing
empty storefronts in partnership with local authorities, Trading
Standards, the Police, and other key stakeholders.
Once outfitted with standard retail fittings, these shops display a vast
assortment of counterfeit products. While they appear to be for sale,
these items feature warning labels instead of price tags, revealing
the truth behind consumer scams and the hidden risks of
"knock-offs."
Inside the shop, visitors can engage with informative storyboards
that detail the darker side of the industry—from how criminal
networks reinvest profits into further illegal activity to the tragic story
of a child killed by a faulty, counterfeit phone charger. To provide a
comprehensive experience:
• Educational leaflets are distributed to all visitors.
• Trained volunteers are available to offer expert advice and discuss
specific local concerns, such as an influx of fake cosm|
