The total Income recelved frorn donations and fundraising (net of fundraisin8 expen5es1 was
£11,65712022123 - E5,6991. Frlends subscriptions Ilncluding Glft Aid) amounted to £4,057,
which was around £SIIO higher than IhÈ previous year. We remain very grateful for the
valuable support provided by Friends to the orchertra. In addition, donations of £1,8S4 were
recoived from a variety of sources. This included £350 from Perth Festival of the Art= E580
from the Young Muslcians Parents, Assoiiation, £174 in memory of
further £750 from a prlvate Indlvldual. A grant of El,400 was kindly received Iiuiii Ilie
Fortevloi Trust and a successful grant applicatlon was made to the Gannochy frust, who
awarded funding of £2,500 per annurn for the three year period 2024 - 2026. Fundraising
contributed a further net inc¢)me of £1,846 through the ceilidh that was held in November
2023 and tsvo bag-pa¢king days at Morrison's supermarket. The young baÉ-packers wère a
credit to the orchestra.
The costs Incurred in runnlng the orchestra lexcludlng staglng concert51 were roughty stable
over the year at £4,429. Thls was sllghtly lower than the prevlou5 year as there were no
uniform costs.
As noted above, the orchestra perlormed three maln concert5- Greyfilais In EdinbLtr8h and
Perth Concen Hall In Au8usi 2023 and Perth Concert Hall In Aprll 2024. The net cosr of staglng

the cost of the previous season of c. £8,0￿, of which £7,300 was incurred in the 2022123
financial year.
The key rea50ns for the lower net costs were..
The concert in Perth Concert Hall in Ausust 2023 made a smaller loss than the
equlvalent concert in 2022 due partly to lower rental ¢osts, hlgher tlcket income due
to higher audiènce number5 and lower costs of augmentors. This is encoura8inq as it
reflerts the conthued recovery of the orchestra p05t-COVID.
Perth and Klnr055 Councll a8reed io lund the Aprll 2024 muslc camp concen In Penh
Concert Hall. Tickets were free and donatlons of £700 were raised at the concert.
The equivalent concert In 2023 made a loss of around £3,000, prlmarlly due to the
hi8h venue rental cost and VAT.
The lower net costs of staging concerts will be partly offset by higher costs in respert of the
Edinburgh concert at Greyfriars, Klrk Éolng forward. In prevlous years, Perth and Kinross
Council have pald for the cost of transporting the orchestra to Edinburgh. From August 2024.
the Committee will take over the full cost of the Edinburgh concert. which Is experted to
increase the c05t by around £l,SCA).
The instrument reserve wa5 not used durln8 the year.
The Peter Robson Morgan fund was estab115hed In 2020121 to as5151 a muslcally 81fted young
person under the age of 17. The fund ha5 not been used in 2023124 and the committee will
work to identfy fulure opportunlties that are in line with Mr Mofgan's Wishes.
Reserve5 Policv
In the trustees. opinion, sufficlent fundralslng should be carrled out to covef the actlvltles of
the orchestra in any given year. and there should therefore be no need to hold a significant
level of reserves.

Perth Youth Orchesira SCIQ 2014 (Scottish Chaiity Number SC0455551
Unrestricted reserves at the end of the year were £11.12012022123 - £6,666) which equates
to 11 months of expendlture based on ihe unrestritted expenditure lor the 202J/24 tinantial
year.
Golng forward, malntalning a level of reserve5 Ihat Is 3round half of the expecred dnnual c051S
of runnlng the orchestra should ensure that. in the event of a significant drop irs funding, the
charitws current activitles will be able to contlnue whlle consideration is Eiven to ways in
which additional funds mav be raised. The current. higher, level of reserves is valuable as the
Committee is in the process of planning a tour, which involves a degree of financial risk.
Future Plans
The trustee5. and the rest of the PYO Committee. are delighied that
Iwill be
takln8 over the role of condurtor. We look forward to worklng wlth her In the future,
After the extremely successful concert In Au8U$t 2024 In St John's Kirk, the PYO Committee
will continue to explore aFfcrdabl@ venues that provSde excellent performance opportunities
at a lower cost than the Perth Concert Hall. We wlll continue to BO lo Perth Concert Hall for
future music camp concerts, with the support of Perth and Kinr055 Councll, whlch wlll ensure
that PYO members have some experlence ofthls wonderful venue.
The PYO Commlttee Is also explodn8 Options to run an overseas tcur In 2026. Th15 wlll be the
first tour since 2019, due to the ¢omblned impact of COVID and Brexlt. There are still a
number of issues to work through but we are hopeful of flndln8 a way forward.
Concluslon
The trustees would Ilke to acknowled8e the contlnued flnanclal 5UPPOrt recelved from the
Fortevlot Trust, the Gannochy Trust, the frlend5, parents ané other supporters of the
orchestra, such a5 the Youn8 Mu51clans Parenis, As50clatlon and Perth Festival of the Arts.
