REPORT OF THE TRUSTEES

Achievements and Performance

Both bands have continued to enjoy success in competitions. Both bands competed at three major championships: European Championships, Scottish Championships and the World Championships.

The positive results for the Grade 4B band have resulted in the band being upgraded by the Royal Scottish Pipe Band Association to Grade 4A for the 2026 season.

Trustee Remuneration and Expenses

The trustees did not receive any remuneration or reimbursed expenses during the year.

Financial Review

The band has had a successful year in terms of prize monies and fundraising against previous periods with both bands competing well at major and minor completions along with record numbers of participants involved in fundraising events. Our 10 year anniversary dinner was very well supported by extended family and friends. Family and friends have also been supportive in coming along to competitions and donating to our bus costs which has been a help to the band. Savings were made on transport and equipment purchases which was attributable to the positive surplus generated this financial year.

Reserves Policy

The Trustees have approved their reserves policy which states that the free reserves of the charity, which are the unrestricted reserves, not including designated reserves or amounts invested in fixed assets should be maintained at a level which equates to approximately 3 months of unrestricted expenditure.

We have total unrestricted reserves at the year end was £34,421 (2024 - £25,338) which equates to around 18 months of unrestricted expenditure which is considered a strong reserves position to be in.

Plans for the Future

The band hopes to build on the success of last season going forward. A particular focus will be had on improving the playing ability of members in the Grade 4 band given the increased demand of playing in a higher grade. The band plans on playing at a minimum of four major championships in 2026. The band may also play in a major championship in Ireland if this is confirmed to be taking place. The band intend on purchasing new drums and harnesses to improve the resources that are available, which in turn should result in improved outcomes for band members.

INDEPENDENT EXAMINER’S REPORT TO THE TRUSTEES

I report on the accounts of the charity for the year ended 31 October 2025 which are set out on pages 5 to 7.

Respective responsibilities of trustees and independent examiner

The charity's Trustees are responsible for the preparation of the accounts in accordance with the terms of the Charities and Trustees Investment (Scotland) Act 2005 and the Charities Accounts (Scotland) Regulations 2006. The charity Trustees consider that the audit requirement of the Regulation 10(1) (d) of the Accounts Regulations does not apply. It is my responsibility to examine the accounts as required under section 44(1) (c) of the Act to state whether particular matters have come to my attention.

Basis of Independent Examiner's Statement

My examination is carried out in accordance with Regulation 11 of the Charities Accounts (Scotland) Regulations 2006. An examination includes a review of the accounting records kept by the charity and a comparison of the accounts presented with those records. It also includes consideration of any unusual items or disclosures in the accounts, and seeks explanations from the Trustees concerning any such matters. The procedures undertaken do not provide all the evidence that would be required in an audit, and consequently I do not express an audit opinion on the view given by the accounts.

Independent Examiner's Statement

In the course of my examination, no matter has come to my attention

  1. Which gives me reasonable cause to believe that in any material respect the requirements:

  2. To keep accounting records in accordance with Section 44 (1) (a) of the 2005 Act and Regulation 4 of the 2006 Accounts Regulations, and

  3. To prepare accounts with accord with the accounting records and comply with Regulation 9 of the 2006 Accounts Regulations

Have not been met, or

  1. To which, in my opinion, attention should be drawn in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.
