REPORT OF THE TRUSTEES
The Trustees of City of Discovery Pipe Band have pleasure in presenting their report
tog8ther with the financial statements for the year ended 31 October 2024.
Structure, Governance and Managémant
City of DiscO￿ry Pipe Band was formed in No￿rnber 2014, is 8 charity registered in
Scotland and is governed by its constitution. The Irusie6s ar8 responsible for the
admlnlstratlon and direction of the charity.
Committ••
The Committee conslsts of a Chairperson. Treasurer, Secretary, Pipa Major, Le8dlng
Drummer. Pipe Sergeant and Playér's representative 811 wth voting rights. Fouowingthe
formation of a Grade 4 Pipe Band in 2022. the Committee now also comprises the Pipe
Major Grade 4 and the Leading Drummer Grade 4 au with voling rights. The following8re
also part of the Commlttee but have no voting rights - Quartermasler, Fundraiser, Boys.

gener81 meeting. New trustees are recruited on an ad hoc basis. as and when required.

The Band practises everyTuesday{from 7.30- 9.30 pm) In Lochee Baptl8t Church.
Bright Street. Dundee. We providetuition and mentoringto our membershipwith the
aim of bgingthe best musi¢ians we can b8. both in competitive and non-competitivg
fields.
Achlovemont8 and Perfom)ancè
Both bands enjoyed a good 8e880n. The bands competed at 4 major championships and
at 2 rninor championships at Banchory and at Lochore. They wer8 In the prizes at
Banchory. Lochore. Forres and Perth vthich gave a big boost to the funds. The b8nds
continue to be competrtive and strive to be thè best that they can be. Both band8

8t a concert in conjunction with our colleagues at Ypres Surrey Pipe Band. It is hop8d
that they might repeat this experience in 2 years time.

The band ha5 had a 8ucces8fulyear both in terms of prize monies 8nd being able to get
grants to helpfund thetripto Beigjumwhich made a massive differenceto ouroutgoing8.
Our Burns Supperwas notso successfulthisyearbutwe did havea good Race Nightand
our Last Man Standing fundraisèr has been very well supported by e￿2nded tsmlly and
Irlends. Family and friends have also b88n supportive in coming along to competltions
and donatlngto our bus costswhlch has b88n a help tothe band.

The Trustees have approved their reserves pollcy which 8tates that the free r88erves of
the charity, whlch are the unreslricted reserves. not includlng designated reserv8s or
amounts invested In flxad ossets should be m8intained at a levelwhich aqu8t88 to
approximately 3 months of unrestricted expenditure.
We have total unr8Strlcted reserves 8t 3111 October 2024 of £25,33812023 - £16,076)
which equates to around 11 months of unrestricted expenditure bthich 18 considered
strong reserves position to be in.
Plan• lorth• Futurn
The band hopes to bulld on th8 8u¢ce$$ of 2023-2024 goingforward. to in¢rgase our
membership and to be able to play in the major competitlonwhich is usually in Ireland.
A Dlnner Oance has been arranged al the Apex Hotel on 1# February 2025 to C818brate
the City of Dlscover Band being in existence for Ioyears andwe hop8 this willbe well
supported bycurrentand past members.

The charty's Trustees are responsible foithe prep8railon ofthe accounts In 8ccord8nce
with the terms of the Charities 8nd Trustees Investment (Scotland) Act 2005 and the
Charities Accounts Iscotland) Regu18tions 2006. The charity Trustee$ consider that the
8udit requirement of Ihe Regulation 10111 {dl of the Accounts Regulations does not apply.
It Is my responsibility to examine the accounts 8$ required under section 4d(11 Ic) of the
Act 10 state whether partlcular matters have com8 to my attention.

These accounts have been prepared on the Receipts and Payments basis In
accordancewith the Chariligs and Trustee Investment (Scotlandl Act 20D5 and
the ChÉritesAccounts {Scottand} Regulations 2006{as amended).
Duringthè year, one ofthe Trustèes, paid £2.000 of sponsorship moneytothe
Band to pay for advertising on the bass skins lorthe drums.
Duringthe year, the chartywas awarded £3.550 in funding 8S 8 Contribution
towards the trip to Belgium. This funding was f ully sp8nt in the year.
