SUCCESSION
raws everyones attention to succession.
As previously advised The History Society. the current
Trustees, mirror the same Succession problem as the Museum
with encouraging additional members and volunteers.
To secure the futurc of succession and finance that both the
History Society and Museum require if they are to survive, the
current roles of the History Society Committee, and a
Museum Advisory Group are to continue to positively
advertise to encourage more rnembers, volunteers, visitors and
groups while helping to highlight both thc cxistence and
worth to both the Dalkeith community and potential
businessltrustees. It remains imperative that evervone rernains
positive to future succession, and to continue investigating
and completing grant applications where applicable.
Last Year￿ advised the meeting that he would be
standing dowAI as Chair after AGM 2025 but would be
prepared to continue as a mernber of the committee.
It therefore falls ￿ me to thank you
for all you have
done for the Historv Society and Chair and on behalf of the
committee and membership for your contribution and
dedication to the continued transfer of historic knowledge of
this town of ours and fmally the continued success of the
History Societ). whilc rcrnaining an invaluable and supportive
member of the committee's team

Scotland has considered their recent grant application and it
appears to broadlv mect thc outcomes and requirements of
their Historic Environment Grants Programme and are happy
that the museum should proceed. The move into the 25/26
ycar remains positive while caution prevails.
History Society Update
The Society have had a balanced year financially particularly
due to our in-house member speakers donating their time free.
Thank you. Our series of Monday events throughout the
session have proved popular with the membership, and it is
satisfying to rewrt that there has been a growth in new
members and visitors alike. Various donations from visitors
and Llfe members are always gratefully received.
To confirni ..
.in April th¢ Chair advised by emaivpost of
the ongoing need for sustainability and suggested that the
membership be charged at £15 per annum. l am delighted to
Lonfirn] that this suggestion has had an excel lent support. I
can confirni that the 25/26 session membership fee therefore
will be £15 per annum ongoing.
This uplift in charge enables us to continue to meet various
costs and potential uplift in costs but also to consider the re
print of the Dalkeith History Society "Old Dalkeith" Issues
1,2 & 3 all popul<￿ with Museum visitors and could enable a
turther income stream. These originally co.st £3.50 each and
we propose to charge £4 each going forward.
Finally, the visitor donation will go frorn £2 to £3 in keeping
with thc member to visitor donation cost ratio.
Thankyou foryoursupport...................... the Chairand
committe¢ genuinely appreciate it.

This dedication has resulted in highlighting our museum to
the people of Dalkeith and the ever-extending surrounding
areas.
In line with other museum's, we now have a successfully
developed Friends of the Museum. This has proven very
popular and to date rnany society members have joine
helping to generate incorne for the Museum.
Other income streams initiated by the efforts of the Advisory
