Statement of Trustees – October 2024

Investigations are being carried out with a volunteer to drive fundraising in the continued absence of other generous sources of income aside from a handful of minor contributions.

However the long-awaited bequest, which has been the subject of an investigation by HMRC into taxation of the testator, is still awaiting a final decision. All the relevant information is with HMRC and we are still waiting to see their response. If favourable this should enable iGàidhlig to move forward in a more constructive manner.

Projects

Meanwhile, at nil cost, we have been able to get volunteer support to work on the translation of existing projects. The Mastodon UI has been translated by volunteers; we continue to investigate the UI translation for Bluesky (the free competitor for Twitter/”X”)

  1. We've continued maintenance of existing projects such as Mozilla , LibreOffice and Scratch through volunteer effort.

  2. Technology Development user workshops remain on hold pending the resolution of adequate funding.

  3. Face to face work remains on hold.

Funding

Work continues to identify reliable sources of funding to cover the other intended projects however the funding environment for Gaelic remains seriously depressed.

Work is continuing on developing direct donations via the web platform. Small individual donations continue to accrue but no expenditure is being incurred.

Outlook

Despite the delays and frustrations the trustees look forward to a more productive year ahead once funding issues are resolved.

Accounts

For the period from 26 January 2023 to 25 January 2024 the charity has had no financial transactions other than the small receipts noted above and has effectively remained dormant.
