Derek Rodger The completed Beechgrove Pavilion ## **Introduction** Our new pavilion was successfully completed on time and on budget in 2023. Key focus of the Beechgrove Sports Partnership is now the day to day running of the facility both on behalf of the Bowling and Tennis Clubs but also for the benefit of other sports clubs and the local community. ## **Objectives and activities** The Beechgrove Sports Partnership was set up to - Advance public participation in sport in Moffat - To provide recreational facilities with the object of improving the conditions of life for those for whom the facilities are primarily intended - To replace the existing dilapidated pavilion at Beechgrove Recreation Ground, with a modern, accessible clubhouse and community facility ## **Current Situation** The Pavilion is now fully operational and is being used extensively by both the Bowling and Tennis Clubs. Both clubs have seen significant benefits and it has led to an increase in membership and participation amongst the local community. The Bowling Club membership has increased due to the improved facilities, with members, particularly those joining since the pavilion completion in June 2023 putting in time and effort to maintain the greens and surrounds to a higher standard than previously. It has also enabled short-mat bowls to be played during the winter months. The Bowling Club has been asked to host events for the Dumfriesshire Bowling Association,(DBA), the South of Scotland Women’s Bowing Association (SSWBA), and Bowls Scotland because of the facilities now available. A particularly prestigious event was the Bowling Club hosting a county selection event, a testament to the facilities provided by the new pavilion and all the hard work put into maintaining the playing surface. The Tennis Club had a successful year and the new pavilion enabled the continuation of coaching throughout the winter months, the large communal space providing a useful backup when the Moffat weather prevented play outdoors. In addition the club has hosted a number of events including once again a learning disability competition as part of the Moffat Gala Week. The facilities have also benefited other local organisations. A highlight is the use of the Pavilion for the successful Moffat Open arranged by the local Pétanque Club which included over 30 teams from across Europe. **Structure, governance and management** Type of governing document The Beechgrove Sports Partnership (BSP) operates within the constitution laid out in our governing document, titled “The Constitution of Beechgrove Sports Partnership”. A copy is available from our website at this address: http://beechgrovesp.wixsite.com/beechgrovesp/about Trustees Trustees to the Board are nominated by the Beechgrove Bowling Club and the Beechgrove Tennis Club. ## **Achievements and performance** Funding The project was completed in 2022/3, the pavilion was completed on budget and was fully funded. Total project cost from the outset of the project (including initial consultations etc.) was £430,000. The three largest funders have been the Hollywood Trust (£122,500), South of Scotland Enterprise (£81,400) and Sport Scotland (£70,000). Running costs are now met through rent charged to the tennis and bowling clubs and through external hires. As a community facility we actively seek to hire out the pavilion to any interested members of the community and this has already successfully happened. Sustainability During the final stages of design and planning, we investigated the option of solar power. Funding was secured and a solar power system installed. The system is now fully commissioned and making a useful contribution to the pavilion’s energy bills and resulting in a lower carbon footprint for the building. **Financial review** The only assets held by the Partnership is cash at bank and as of 31st Oct ’24 this had a balance of £2,047.22. A full copy of the accounts is included as part of the submission. The Beechgrove Sports Partnership have a responsibility to manage and maintain the pavilion but we do not own it. We have a lease agreement with Dumfries and Galloway Council and on its termination ownership will revert to the council. **Statement of the charity** ’ **s policy on reserves** Going forward the partnership does not hold any significant reserves. An annual budget covering the running costs and maintenance provision has been agreed with the bowling and tennis clubs and the two clubs are invoiced quarterly in advance to cover this. As of 31st Oct ’25 we held £547.22 in the revenue account dedicated to this purpose. Details of any deficit We currently have no deficit, the capital project was completed on budget and was fully funded. In addition the partnership does not have any donated facilities or services ## **Future plans** The future of the BSP is now positive and exciting. The focus going forward is on running the facility and offering a great facility to the wider community. ## **Concluding Remarks** This successes of the past year has seen the culmination of many years of effort. Huge thanks is due to everyone who has worked with the BSP over the years. This includes trustees and many others who have donated their time.
