AIMS
The advancement of education at Kingussie High School, which will be achieved by the
following methods:
a) to promote close co-operation and communication between parents and school
2. b) to study and discuss matters of mutual interest relating to tbe edu￿tiOn and welfare
of pupils
3. c) to engage in activities which support and advance the education of pupils attending
the school
POWERS
The Parent Council shall have the power to do anything ¢onsider¢d by them to be in
rtherance of the aims, rcmcinbLring that tl)ey are there to represent the views of th¢ Par¢nt
Forum. These powers include Ihe raising of funds by a variety of means, and disbursing them
iii accord￿]ee with Parent Council wishes.

The membership consists priinarily of parentslcarers of childrcn attendiiig Kingussie High
School as selected by th¢ Parent Foium, Tli¢ Council will have a rninimuin of 8ix pareiit
members (including officc bearers).
Note.. The Parent Foruin is all the parents/cai'ers ofpupils currenily eni'olled at KHS.
GENERAL MEET
The Am]ual General Meeting {AGM) shall be held once a year. The notice calling the
meeting shall be sent tn the Parent FoTuin at least twc) w¢¢k8 in advance,
The business shall include:.
a) th¢ work of the Parent Couneil
2. b) approval of the accounts
) appointment of an individual who will review the annual accounts
4. d) any resolutions submitted by the Parent Forum
e) election of rnember5 to serve on the Parent Couiicil
At all General Meetings voting shall be based on one vote per parentlfull Parent Council
member present at the meeting.
At all general ineetin8S th¢ quoruin shall Consist of 6 par¢nts.
The Parent Council, or 10 inembers of tlie Parent Forum, shall have the power to call ail
Extraordinary General Meeting.

Members of the Parent Council shall be appointed at the AGM. They shall be elected for a
one year terni and be eligible for re-election. Parents shall always fonn the majority of the
Parent Council.
The office bearers will be chairperso￿ Secretary, Treasurer and such others as may be
requir￿. Th¢ offi¢¢ b¢ar¢rs will b¢ ¢l¢¢ted by the Parent Council either at the AGM, or at
any ordinary meeting.
The Parent Council may co-opt any other rnember to fill a vacancy occurring between
AGMS. The co-opted members shall retire at each AGM but shall bc cligiblc for clcction.
The Heaa Teacher or his/her representative has a right and a duty to attend meetlDgs of the
Parent Council.
The Parent Council May co-opt up to 4 non-parents to help carry out its fi]n¢tions, The co-
opted inembers shall retire at Ilie AGM bul shall be eligible to be co-opted for a ￿rther tenn.
Each mernber of the Parent Council shall liave one vote and resolutions shall be passed by a
siinplc inajority vote of those prcsent. The Chairperson shall have boih a deliberalive and
casting vote. The Chairperson's casting vote shall be used only in the event of a tie.
The Secretary shall be responsible for keeping aeturate minutes of all meetings and shall
make these available upon request to any member of the Parent Forum.
A rneinber of the Parent Council failing to attend three consecutive meetings witliout
reasonlapologies may be deemed to have retired from the Parent Council.
Meetings of the Parent Council shall be held as required. At all meetin88 of the Parent
Council a third of members, at least two of whom are office bearers, shall fonn quoruin.
Note.. A qt40rum is only valid ifall ihe Parent Council meinbers have been informed of the
meeting, and sent notice of ihe items of business, in advance.
All Parent Council meetings shall be open and any mernber of the Parent Fon)m or wider
cornrnunity inay attend altliough they will not have voting rights.
FINANCE
The funds of the Parent Council shall be lodged in a bank, building society or other account
in the name of the Parent Council. Cheques shall be drawn, or wlthdrawals m¢ide against the
signatures of at le￿t two named Parent Council inembers.
The Treasurer sliall be responsible for keeping accurate records of the financial transactions
of the Parent Council. The books sliall be brouglit to balance two weeks before the AGM and
the accounts shall be reviewed by an individual appointed at the previous AGM by the Parent
Forum.

Note.. The indiijidual does noi have lo be a qualified accounÈanÉ, ju,Yr someone who is
comfortable workiiig withfigures, who is not a meixber of or related to a mcppzbclr of th
Parent Council and whom everyone rrusis.
The Parent Council shall b¢ responsible for ensuring that all propertylmoney received bylfor
thc Parent Forumlcouncil shall be applied for the aims of the Parent Council and that this
expenditure is r¢corded in minutes and reported at the AGM.

less than two thirds of those present.
