Many of the activities required to keep the Hall and Playpark running to an acceptable and safe standard are routine, and effectively unseen, but nevertheless essential. So, once again, volunteers from the Committee ensured that electricity and internet deals were obtained and sustained, water use was monitored and exemptions from payment granted, the Hall, and the Playpark toilets were cleaned and maintained, the matters highlighted as most urgent in the annual external Playpark Safety Inspection Report were attended to or repaired, the Playpark was inspected for basic safety once a month and the results recorded, grass cutting was sourced and paid for or undertaken directly by volunteer Committee members, the insurance was reviewed, approved and renewed, the Constitution was formally reviewed (as required by the Scottish Charities Regulator) and approved as fit for purpose, food hygiene standards were sustained, the “Orcadian” newspaper honesty box was supplied, money was counted and bills of all sorts paid, invoices were issued, the Hail electrical systems, fire systems and fire extinguishers were inspected and validated, pest control and pest proofing was implemented and monitored, music and other licences were obtained as necessary, and so on, and so on....... You may recognise much of this list from last year’s Chair's Report, the reason being that the task list is continuous, formidable, and endless. Fortunately, we have again been supported by an enthusiastic Community, with major fund raising events such as the Burns Supper, and the summer Plant Sale, bringing in significant amounts of money. The Hall and Play Park continue to be well and regularly used, for Table Tennis, the “Be Active-Long Life” group, “Fun Fridays’, Thursday's Playgroup, Karate Lessons, “Tea and Tech”, Ceilidhs, Craft Sessions, and regular annual events like the Summer Fun Day, the Football 7-a-Side, and the Christmas Tree Lighting. During 2023 over 80 local people responded to our request to complete a Burray Community Survey, giving us a good idea of people’s priorities for development. Improvements to the Burray Hall heating system emerged as a clear favourite, and during 2024-25 Roger Jackson has spearheaded the development of a new solar/battery/air source heat pump system, that should attract more than 80% in external grant funding, and give us a system that delivers heat where and when it is required, rather than relying on storage heaters fed from the ageing wind turbine, that deplete quickly in calm, cold weather. We hope the new system will be up and running by March 2026, and will make Burray Hall more inviting and more useable, particularly over the winters to come. in November 2024, Burray Community Association was approached by the organising group behind the Water Sound music festival, scheduled to be held in Burray over three days in August 2025. The financial infrastructure and Registered Charity status that Burray Community Association could provide were essential for the Festival to attract various grants, and process the many financial transactions involved. Accordingly, the Water Sound festival planning group approached Burray Community Association with a proposal for them to become a formal sub group within BCA’s structure. The Water Sound Festival proceeded in August 2025 under the umbrella of BCA, and was very | successful, with, we hope, sufficient funds generated to carry forward as | an annual event, next scheduled for Friday 3 rd July to Sunday 6th July 2026.
