To provide grants to the Civil Engineering students of the University of Timisoara and supporting educational exchange visits between Scotland and Romania. An annual competition for the John Scott Travelling award is held for the best graduating project in civil/structural engineering. Prizes are given to the top applicants (1 to 3 persons depending on their performance and quality of competing projects). The Trust also helps educational exchange visits between the University of Timisoara and Edinburgh University in the frame of the Erasmus+ existing agreement.

Objectives: The purposes of the Trust are, for the benefit of the public in Scotland and Romania, for payment or application of the income and, if the Trustees think fit, the capital of the Trust Fund from time to time in the Trustees' charge for the advancement of education specifically by (a) providing support to students and teaching staff within the Civil Engineering Faculty at the Politehnica University of Timisoara including supporting the development of a library and research, the provision of scholarships and the purchase of equipment all at the Faculty of Civil Engineering at the Politehnica University of Timisoara. and (b) supporting educational exchange visits between Scotland and Romania .
