SC 044596 Yetholm History Society Annual Accounts 202312024 (l October 2023 to 30 September 2024) Treasurer's Notes l. The annual accounts comprise the Financial Ststements, the Treasurer's Notes, the Trustees Report, and the Independent Report. They meet the Charities Accounts (Scotland) Regulations 2006 as described by the Charity Regulator's Guide. The Treasurer has prepared the Financial Ststements on the receipts and payments basis as the Society's income is below the threshold requirin8 accounts to be prepared on an accruals basis. 2. The Society had a full schedule of physical meetings in the Heritsge Centre over the winter months in the year under review and the membership fees and members donations reflect this. Membership fees and members, donations in the year 2023/24 totslled £461 as many members paid more than the £6 minimum annual membership fee. Members, donations of more than their annual membership fee have been treated as part of the support given by members to properly reflect their valued contribution to the work of the Soaety. 3. The principal physical work to the Yetholm Herita8e Centre carried out during the financial year was the erertion of a fence for security and to ensure privacy. The trustees had decided after inspection and as part of the programme to bring the old Mission Hall into use as the Herits8e Centre that the existing boundary fence was insubstsntial. It allowed dog fouling of the area around the Heritsge Centre which detrarted from the presentstoon of the building and qUIred dearing up every time the grass was cut by one of the trustees. The new fence improves the overall attractiveness of the Heritsge Centre for visitors and also facilitstes improved maintenance of the grounds. The Society used the balance of the legacy from the estate of the late for this purpose. That work is detsiled in the Trustees, Report below. 4. In addition, although it took place after the financial year end trustee of the Society, at his own cost arranged the laying of a ul slate memorial in memory of his late wif ho was a long-serving member of the trustees and gave her time selflessly to its work. It can be seen and admired by visitors as they enter by the gate to the Heritsge Centre and includes an attrattive seat for those who wish to sit and appreciate it. eauti 5. Recognisin8 the need to ensure the Society invested in appropriate technology, a number of purchases were made. A new laptop computer and software was bought for the use of the Society. Previously we had relled on the use of a trustee's laptop for presentstions at tslks and the storage of archive records. In addition the Soaety
SC 044596 Yetholm History Society Annual Accounts 202312024 (l October 2023 to 30 September 2024) invested in a state-of-the art audio-vlsual device to allow visitors to exhibitions to learn more about the history of Yetholm at their own pace. It can be updated with new materials as the work of the Society develops. In addition, one of our trustees kindly bought for the Society and donated to the Society a Sumup card device whith we now use to accept payments by card at our meetings as some members and visitors prefer to make a card payment when that is available. 6. Certain additional costs are envisaged to improve exterior storage of chairs to free up space during the exhibitions and discussions are underway obtsining estimates for the work to be done. The Heritsge Centre had been a disused chapel which was donated to the Sooety a few years previously and the trustees intend to ensure it can be used to its maximum benefit for members and visitors. The costs of the works will be substantial and the trustees intend to seek grant funding. 7. The Society did not pay remuneration or expenses to Trustees or any person connected with a Trustee. There were no transactions with persons connected with a Trustee. 8. The Society's cash at-bank was lodged at the Bank of Scotland.

Its main address is The 2. There was a wide-ranging series of six talks during the year 2022/23 by visitin8 speakers with authority on topics as diverse as the life and works of Lady Grizel Baillie, Mistress of Mellerstsin a local historic house. The Union Chain Bridge across the Tweed and its history and restoration; Wooler in World War 2 as a defended village; Irregular Border Marriages that took place to tske advantsge of the differences in the laws of marriage on either side of the border. the Ad Gefrin, Anglo Saxon Royal Township and the new museum. and the places in Anglo-saxon history of two well-known local historical figures of national importance namely St Cuthbert and the Venerable Bede. Each of these events was presented by a recognised authority in their respective fields and in many cases included the opportunity to buy a book by the speaker. All were very well attended and each finished with a lively set of questions to the speaker from those present. The Society thus continued to fulfil its purpose set out in paragraph 6 below. 3. The Yetholm Heritsge Centre was again open to the public from May 2023 to the end of September between IOam4.30pm. The exhibition focussed on 'Yetholm as a Town, and looked at the wide range of shops that had in earlier times been in the village facilitating the supply both of everyday goods and specialist items for the agricultural communities and the servicing on local needs. It attracted a welcome number of visitors. There were very positive comments on the exhibition, verbally and written comments in Visitors, Book. Visitors took time both to listen to the recordings and to read printed materials and displays. 4. In addition the Society as usual took a stsnd at the Yetholm Border Shepherds, show in Ortober and had a successful day with numerous visitors attrarted by the exhibition and the competition open to all visitors of 'Wheres That At, which required partiopants to correctly identify from two posters the places in Yetholm from which old photographs had been tsken and gave an insight into how the villages had developed over time. In addition as a tie~break question asked for thoughts on 'Yetholm is a place which ....' The responses to which showed much ingenuity from partiapants. Four gift cards with a value of £15 eath were donated as prizes by one of our trustees and were awarded for the four best entries as judged by a panel of the trustees.
SC 044596 Yetholm Hlstory Society Annual Accounts 202312024 (l October 2023 to 30 September 2024) 6. Our constitution is the model one that the Scottish Council for Voluntary Organisations gives out. On request, Trustees will e-mail a copy, or arrange access to a paper copy. The Society's purpose is to promote understsnding of the heritage of Yetholm and its environs by stimulating interest in and the recording of the history and archaeology of the area. 7. Cash reserves held in the General Fund and the Archive Fund are unrestrirted. The Archive Fund is to help us acquire, store, protert, display and copy material and at the year-end it had a small deficit which was made good by a transfer from the General Fund. There Is also the Hall Fund and Publication Fund, both are restricted funds in that Some of the monies were donated for those purposes only. The Hall Fund would have had a deficit of £1,287 at the year-end as the costs of the new fence and neces- sary printing for the Heritsge Centre in aggregate exceeded the funds available in the Hall Fund but the shortfall was made good by a transfer from the General Fund. After making the transfers the General Fund had a surplus of £2,031. We see the reserves as seed money to secure grant aid, and to help us meet urgent costs and short-term variations in income or expenditure. Responsibilities The Trustees are responsible for the preparation of the accounts. It is my responsibility to examine the accounts, and to stste whether particular matters have come to my attention. Basis of Independent Examlnerfs Report My examination was carried out under Regulation 11 of the Charities Accounts (Scotland) Regulations 2006. 1 have reviewed the accounting records and compared them with the finanaal ststements. I have considered items and disclosures in the accounts and obtsined the explanations that I needed from the Trustees. The procedures undertaken do not provide the evidence needed in an audit and, consequently, I do not express an audit opinion on the financial statements. Report No matter has come to my attention that gives me reasonable cause to think that the Society has not kept accounting records that comply with the 2006 Regulations, or has not drawn up accounts that match those records and meet the Regulations.
