APPENDIX 1
Achievements and performance
Summary of the maln achlevemenls of In the reporting period, the For But8 Community Thrift Shop has enjoyed
the charity during the financlal perlod
increased SUC￿$$ due lo the muchlsrger new premises and the shop's
new Prominent position facing the seafront promena￿e, not far from the
town centre and the ferry lerminal.
During this period, we have been ab￿ lo increase the donations to the
organisalions we support,, the spread of grants made was similar lo
previous years, including organisations and inilialives such as being a
sponsor for Bule Island Radio, Beachwatch Bule, the Bute Wheelers
cycling club. the 8ule Noir ¢rime fiGlion feslNal, the Lade Centre {for Ihe
elderly, ill and di8abled}, the Bute Arts Society, play areas at Norlh Bute
and St Andrews primary schools, fttnding for a new healing system for St
Andrew's Catholic Church, assisting in the fvnding of the dialysis unit al
victoria Hospital, and travel expenses for Bute students in dancing, piping
and sporting competitions.
FDr Bule is supported by a network of volunteers who manage, stock and
run Ihe Community Thrift Shop. None of the staff or trustees receive
remuneration, and no money from the shop has gone toward the purchase
of the vehicle used for collections and deliveries. For Bule volunteers are
largely retired. and being part of the team in such a busy and large shop
keeps them involved and active in communrf(y life.
Financial review
Brief statement ofthe charity'3 policy
on reserves
For Bule is responsible for all repairs lo its extremely large Iwo-stofey
Victoria Street premises. We have always waintained a healthy reserve lo
cover al least two years, rent on the premises and for insurances, utility
bills and water rates, as well as any unforeseen emerqen¢ies. This
reserve amount has increased as we heve more than quadrupled the
amount of stock we can offer in the shop and incorne has risen
accordingly. We have boen incr8asing the amount funded and will
continue lo do so. We are still anticipating supporting the Lade Centre
Ir8nsilion to owning its premises, lo provide sgcurity for an organisalion
Drovidino vrtal services for the vulnerable.
For Bule has no deficit.
