Tgam COrdInatOr Report by The Aberdeen Chorus or should I say the Faberdeen chorus is a v11-O11ed machine that works like clockwork but only because of the dedication, enthusiasm and support of the all the members, all of whom give so much time as volunteers to the chorus we love. 2024 can only be described as an epic year with contests in both Spain and Kansas City and another fantastic run of Christmas Shows. haS covered these trips in her report so I won't go into them in any detail, suffice to say those who attended one or both (for those who suffer from FOMO) had a great time. My thanks to everyone who made these events such a great Sucss. every single one of you did your bit to help with fundraising and I'd just like to mention the fantastic support from those who stayed at horne for one or other or both. Calpe or KC. It still gives me a tear whén I rem8mb8r your smiling fac8s at the last rehearsal before we took off for Kansas City. We were so proud to represent you all. I think the support we give each other both on and off the risers Is on one of the things that makes our chorus so great. When we get back from Sheffield, we can start making plans for the next 18 months and as I said I know that there is an appetite to go back to Spain or perhaps even Ireland. but let's see what Sheffield brin s first. It was wonderfijl to see at her creative best in pulling off yel anoth8r epic Christmas Show. Three full houses and dressing up at the usual chorus high standard. Again, this tskes a wee team of Christmas elves to make this happen so thanks you are so wonderfully talented and again wé are so lucky to have you in our chorus. As always at the AGM it is an opportunity to make special mention and thanks some of our ladies and this year is no exception. Speaking of Asslstant Dlrectors, our wonderful lIS stepplng down as Assistant Direct as of today- dedication to the Chorus over the years has been phenomenal. let me tell you about her 38 years. She joined the chorus in 1987, joined the Music team in 1989 and became Assistant Director in 2017. On top of that she was the Baritone section leader for 15 years and lead section leader for a few more. President 1Ge, several stints on the team including ffinance, correspondence secretary. minutes secretary (yes we used to have 2 seGretsries) publicity, show chair. THEN let's tum to the region... RMT Events Coordinator, 1998- 2002. Finance Coordinator 2015- 2019. Attendance at regional every on since 1988 - that's 36 consecutive regional contests. Intemationals, two as a quartet competitor 1992 and 2001. Chorus competitor six times and another couple, just for funl The first one in 1990 and the last one in Las Vegas 2016.1'm exhausted just reading that1 on behalf of every metnber past and present, who has been with you on this journey, we thank you from the bottom of our hearts for everything you have done and continue to do for the chorus. Although you are stepping down as Assistant Director, I know you will be in the wings helping us all along the way, and of course you will continue with the aftemoon singers, which gives you so much pleasure. Please accept these flowers as a very small loken of thanks. Huge round of a lause! It takes a lot of pressure off the team when we have someone like Anne that knows the fine detail of the nominating pro¢&dure. the day to day running of the chorus. This means attending rehearsals on a regular basis, updating attendan for perfomiances as soon as they are uploaded, because if you are anything like me you forget and then time passes and you have to be chas8d. This is so important, for us to accept perfomances, we must know we have a balance, submitting evaluations for every song in a timely manner. focusing on what's happening out front and not talking on the risers. If we all tum all of these things up a notch. we will see an improvement across the board. We are such a fantastic chorus in every way and that is down to you all being so dedicated, friendly and supportive of each other. Each one of you is an important cog in this wonderful chorus wheel. Well done to us all and here's to another fantastic year. Huge round of applause. One other thing I would like to mention is our Cabaret eveninglaftemoon which is taking place on the 13th and 14th of September. Saturday evenlng and a Sunday afternoon. Please put this in your Diary and make every effort to attend both rf possible. It will take the shape of a bring your own refreshments and snacks. We will have two sets of risers at each end of the hall with smaller groups coming and going. Songs to be used will be uploaded in plenty of time for us to learn over the summer. Think speakeasy, flappers, hippies and show tunes and you will picture the show! 4. Musical Director Report by Sophie Radcliff This past year has likely been one of the busiest Aberdeen Chorus have eXperiend in long time! Following our 2nd place win at regional in 2023, the chorus accepted our invite as a wildcard competitor to compete at the 2024 International Convention in Kansas City. Due to a lower number of members being able to commit to the competition in Kansas City, we also decided as a chorus to compete at the Spanlsh convention- BIBA- In April of 2024. This ensured that all members were able to experience perfomiing in a competition setting and the chorus had almost a 50150 split with those signing up for the convention in Spain and the International competition later in the year. The competition in Spain was one of the biggest highlights in our chorus joumey over the past few years and was a hugely positive and rewarding experience for all those that attended. The laid-back fonnat of the convention and of course, the beautiful setting in Calpe, rtainlY contributed to a fabulous perfomiance and overall trip to this convention. This is an opportunity that I would like the chorus to consider again in the future and hopefully you will all agree! The SLJmmer months brought lots of small erformance opportunities and coathing sessions with the wonderful . These were pivotal in helping the chorus to prepare for the international convention but also in improving and maintaining individual members singing and performing skills. In September we had our final coaching weekend with befOre the Kansas City chorus headed to the USAto compete. Again, the focus was on our upcoming competition. butALL coaching is beneficial and helps the chorus lo keep moving fomard in Ihe competitive world of barbershop singing. In October, International was finally herel The chorus have obviously had wond8rful inlernational competition experien$ in the past with at the helm. but this was a first for us with me as your directorl Mthough it wasn't the first time many of us had competed at international, it was a first for us as the "current" Aberdeen chorusl There are many words I could use to describe the experience on a personal level, but as a chorus, I couldn't be prouder of what we achievedl Every member sang their heart out to an audien of thousands, and we were able lo show them just a small snippet of who we are as Aberdeen Chorus! Of course, none of this would have been possible without the support and encouragement of the members that stayed at home and cheered us on and were with us every step of the way throughout the entire inlemational competition preparation process. Hopefully as progress as a chorus, we will have the opportunity to compete at intemational again, wherever that may b81 While the KC chorus were away at intemational, the remainder of the chorus were busy preparing for the upcoming Christmas Shows. Once the chorus were all reunited, rehearsals were well underway. Written and direcled by ith support froffl these shows were a resounding success! I took a leave of absence over the festive period for various healthlpersonal life reasons, but I knew that the chorus were in the best possible hands. Thank you, for your commitment, creativity and dedication to our wonderful chorus. You all did an incredible job and l am etemally gratefijl for the compassion and support that you have shown me as well as keéping the chorus al the top of their game and producing three wonderful Christmas shows! I know the chorus will agre8 and share in these sentiments with me. January 2025 saw the start of a new regional competition year and we hit the ground running with contest preparations in full swing! With new music and new members, the horus continue to go from strength to strength. Welcome to all of our fabulous new members, we are so honoured to have you join us! Most recently, we invited our dear friend and barbershop royalty, 10 come and coach the chorus. Many of us have had the pleasure of experiencing unique and inspiring coachlng talent over the years, but It had been 5 years slnce we had seen her last! I think you'll all agree that she is truly wonderful and a huge inspiration to us alll Her dedication to technique, mental well-being and physicality is what sets her apart from the rest and she shared these so c18arly and brilliantly over the course of the weekend we had with her. It was a chorus-life changing experience for many of us and the tricks and tips that she shared with us will be implemented fully and carried forward with us as we continue our journey to become the best chorus we can be! Now, It's tlme for some thankyous and appreclatlon... Thank you to the incredible management team- headed up by one of the most organized and brilliant ladies I knowl You keep us all on the slraight and narrow and ensure we're always compliant with our admin, finanS, logistics, costurning and social media. A special thank you for the huge amount of work that went into the organizing and planninglrunning of Spain and Kansas City. I don't know how you do it but on behalf of the chorus, we are incredibly grateful! Next to m wonderful music team It is down to the work of these ladies that our chorus remains so musically wonderful. and we continue to improve and hone our barbershop skills. Their knowledge and support are invaluable, and li is my pleasure to work with you to create beautiful music as Aberdegn Chorus! A few special mentions... To my assistant directors you are my right-hand women and l am so very grateful and honoured to direcl alongside you and leam from you at every rehearsal. You are always so willing to support and share your extensive knowledge and the chorus benefit from this ev ime ou are in front of them and guiding me. I'd like to take Ihis opportunity to than for giving up her time, knowledge and skills over many years as one of my assistant directors. You keep me centered and grounded and there isn't anything you won't do lo help me, or the chorus in our musical endeavours. You have been a pillar of the chorus as one of the assistant directors and we all appreciate you more than we can say. Thank you for evèrything you hav8 done for us all over thè y8ars and we wish you happy (and hopefully peaceful) singing as you step down from your role as Assistant Director. These will be very large shoes lo fill, but we are etemally grateful for all that you have given us. We love you very much! You are my biggest inspiration, and it is, and will continue to be, my honour. to stand in front of you every week at rehearsal. This chorus never ceases to amaze me. as we go from strength to strength, learning and singing together. Team FABerdeen truly is a family. and I continue to receive messages and comments about how welcoming. wann, inclusive and supportive we are as a chorus from members, friends, family and fellow barbershoppers all over the UK and world! I know what this chorus is capable of and I can't wait to work with you all to achieve our dreams and move forward together into another fabulous year as Team FABerdeen- thank you!! 5. Treasurer Report by The 202412025 financial year has been very active as we continued fundraising for our contest in Kansas City and ultimately drew down on this fundraising to go to Kansas. Our loss for the year was £29,096.97. Travel subsidies for those competing at intemats'onal cost £24,180. There were also other costs related to international contest such as registrations of £10.830.09 which had already been paid for by members in the previous financial year. This year's deficit was to be expected and was why all the fundraising activity over the prlor 18 months was so necessary and appreciated. Fundraising income minus costs for this year were £7675.91.1 am sure others will mention all the innovative ways in which this achieved, but I want to add my thanks for all of those who made It possible. Our p8rformanc8 income minus costs was £4411.16. Th8 majority of this came from our Christmas shows which netted a profit of £3,261.01. Another major Contribution was from the Afternoon singers, group who over the Christmas period added £500 in performance fees. There was also some of the tail end of sales for our March cabaret show in this financial year. Our major source of income remains members, dues, so I thought that it would be useful to try and illustrate where your monthly dues go. There is a table at the end of this report to that effect. Because our member numbers fluctuate. I have based it on 90 members, I have split the numbers inlo essential expenses which we cannot avoid and additional expenses which are the things that we have some control or discretion over. As you can see member dues alone do not cover all of things we would like to do and illustrates why fundraising and perf0rnan income are so important. Our current financial position is secure with £11,575.76 in our savings account. Thank you to you, the chorus, for entrusting me with overseeing the chorus finances and thank you to the rest for the management team for their support over the past year. I especlally want to thank Tina, the previous treasurer. for glving her time and patIen during the handover period. This is not an easy process. and l appreciate it greatly.

plans to go to intemational before COVID hit) came to almost £26K! Many thanks to every- one who supported the fundraising evenls and helped to share the publicty to make this so successful. After we returned from Kansas City, my publlcity efforts turned to our Christmas Shows. These were publicised on social media. and this year we opted not to use local paper publi- cations, nor posters. Once again, the shows sold out very quickly, and raised an excellent sum of money for the chorus. We also spread the word about our fantastic fundraising Christmas Carol Pub Crawl, raising over £2000 for the local charity, AberneSsitie8. It was wonderful to be able to donate such a great sum of money to a worthy local tharity. Fundraising events have been a great way to spread the word about our Chorus. and to keep up the good lev81s of interest and engagement with our followers on social media. The annual Aberdeen Health and Wellbeing Festival was another event which helped us to reach a number of new followers. Fun, in-person events such as this, and Ihe Pub Crawl, are great for reaching people who may not have heard us sing before. Please let the Management Team know if you have any fundraising ideas that you would like to take foNard, and you can work together on the publicity. l am stepping down from the Social Media and Marketing role. and I want to specifically thank every member of the Chorus for having helped to make myjob easy over the last couple of years. Please keep up the good work, with "liking, sharing, and commenting. on our posts, as this really makes a huge impact to our social media presence which, in lum, helps lo keep our Chorus thriv- 9. Momborship Report by Our membership numbers in May 2004 were 98, our current membership has remained steady with at a total of 97 members, (95 registered with SAI) comprising of 20 Barrtones. 30 Basses, 39 Leads, 7x Tenors 8nd our fabulous Direclor.I Over the last ear we have had 4 new members join the chorus, 3 in the Lead section nd 1 in the Bass section We have had 5 members leave the chorus (2 Leads 1 Bass Tenor 1 Bari for varying reasons and demands of life commitments, but hopefully we may see some return tojoin us again in the future! 2 members (1 Tenor, 1 Bari) have changed voice part to lead I We continue to welcome visilors along to watch rehearsals and invite those interested in membership to audition. Januaryl February this year were very busy with visiting interested prospective members! Membership introduced a new process for onboarding members to the chorus, which has provided time for new members to settle into chorus life before processing their member- shlp with SAI after a few months of singing with the chorus, This 2-stage membership pro- cess has been applied to new recent members and has enhand how we manage the onboarding process. and we will adopt this new process with all new members going for- ward.
Attendance has been generally consistent in numbers with dips during holiday time and winter minor illnesses before Christmas, but since our retum this year. the risers are very busy with an average of 75 attending every week. Thank you to the management and music teams. section leaders and their deputies, and all the 'buddies' who I have worked in collaboration with me lo ensure our new and long-term members are kept informed and supported throughout the year. And to all members, for your amazing talents and companionship. I have thoroughly enjoyed my 2 years as Mem- bership Co-ordinator. and it has been a great pleasure for me to get to know so many of you over this time. 10. Coslume Report by This has been a very quick and busy first year as costume co-ordinator and I would to thank my predecessor, for the meticulous records that she handed to me. without them I'd be lost! My first task was getting ready for Kansas and with October fast approaching seven ladies had to be kitted out with purple dresses and other chorus essentials whilst 61 items were sant to the Dugout for embroidery nd her lovely sewing ladles took on the task of making our beautiful tartan sashes- ladias, you were a godsend, and I thank you all very much for all the time you put in to completing these. They went down a stomi in America! Reluming from Kansas we went straight into the Christmas Concert and the newer ladies were supplied with a red costume while all the others were ¢he¢ked over and any neces- sary changes were made. Fast fOard to March and once again, Convention in Sheffield is drawing nearer and an- other 7 ladies have been kitted out with purple dresses. and 27 items have been put for em- broidery. Could I take this opportunity lo ask everyone who is going to Sheffield to please check over your costume to ensure that everything is in good order and that you have all items ready for our Sheffield dress rehearsal on Monday, 14th April. There will be a costume folder on Making Music with full details of contest costume as well as contest make up. In the Meantime, if anyone has any questions regarding costume, please do not hesitate to contact me. Election of Office Bearers This year the Chorus elects three people to the mana ement team. Both submitted their names for a second term, along with therefore no elec- tion was re uired. Quartet gel together that was held in March was attended by existing and new quartets. It was great fun, and the recommendation was that this is continued to encourage members of the chorus to ty It. If only to gain Confiden and the experience of quartet singing. Currently have 4 registered quartets with 2 competing in Sheffield- Rough Diamonds and Tempo. Rough Diamonds & Quartz are competing in Spain. Raised concern regarding bubbling during chorus warmups. Spittal & spreading gemis. Debbie has noted the concern arKI will be discussed further within the muslc team. Will there be another fundamentals course happening this year? rndvised that the possibility of another course had been discussed within the music t8am although no deci- sion had been made. Commented on the lack or choruses competing at Sheffield this year & was there anything to be concemed about future competitions being held commented that the region was getting smaller. 3 choruses were competing within ihe European competition with Foth Valley competing at Intemational.
