| Achievements and performance
Summary of the main achievements
of the charity during the financial period
This has been a very rewarding year for us, as our charity finally completed the extension _of our Barony St John Centre, and our new Barony Café finally opened. It was the culmination of over 5 years of planning, fundraising and building and we cannot thank enough all the local businesses who offered their time and expertise, sometimes free of charge, to make our extension come to fruition, as well as the many funders who helped fund this project.
_ We also realised that instead of just opening a Wellbeing café, we could offer other wellbeing activities and services in our Centre to help improve both the physical and mental wellbeing of our local community.
Funding from The Robertson Trust contributed towards our core costs (and will continue _ until November 2025) allowing us to keep our Barony St John Centre in Ardrossan _ functioning and a vital part of our community. Also, a massive “Thank you” to the Bank of Scotland Foundation for funding our “Safe & Sound” Project Manager for the next 2 YEARS.
And thanks to The National Lottery’s Awards for All Community Fund for funding all our travel and accommodation costs for courses for women and girls for the next 2 YEARS.
This funding enabled us to run an amazing 192 training sessions this year, empowering 1,831 individuals - our highest number since we started in 1997. This brings the total _ number of people we have helped to 12,138 - Absolutely phenomenal figures considering _ we only had 7 active volunteer Instructors this year!
_ Internally, we presented our “Vo/unteer of the Year’ trophy at our bi-annual Instructor _ Training Day in February 2024 to Claire McLaughlan. This is the second time Claire has _ won our award, having previously won in 2022. Her win this year was for her outstanding - commitment and contribution to both our charity and our community.
Externally, The Ayrshire Community Trust's Adult Volunteer Recognition Award commends volunteers for their voluntary work in our local area. Our volunteer Instructor, _ Craig Bainbridge was presented with a Palladium Award for “an outstanding contribution fo volunteering in the community and extremely valuable service to their organisation” after he completed 130hrs of voluntary work, helping vulnerable people, in the last year alone, 336hrs in the last 4 years he's been volunteering with us.
Our charity reached the final of the Ayrshire Achieves awards in the category of “Thinking Outside the Box’ for the mental health benefits our empowering Personal Safety courses give service users of Ayrshire’s Health & Social Care Partnership. And we also reached the final of TACT’s Volunteer Awards 2025 in the category of “Support to
_[the][Community’.][And][although][we][did][not][win][either][of][these][external][recognition] © _ awards, we are extremely proud to have our work, and the benefits of our training, © recognised by our local community.
Best of all, and by far our biggest achievement this year, have been the comments from — _ course participants, which included; “For the whole of my life, | lived in fear... | now know, that for anyone who has lived | _ through fear, who feels small, helpless, or broken; there is hope. Strength lives inside _ you, even if it feels buried right now. Personal Safety training and in particular, self _ defence, helped me find mine. It changed my life. | will never be able to thank Alan and the Team enough for the best gift | have ever received - FREEDOM.”
“| have previously been a victim of sexual assault & domestic violence — by taking part, it really helped me feel more confident within myself and in my job!”
“| have had so many abusive moments in my life - to take part in this was huge. It | helped me feel safer within myself, even being at home alone.” _ “l wasn't sure what to expect from the course but | found it enjoyable, informative and quite honestly one of the best courses | have ever attended and trust me | have lost count of how many that is!! The bottom line is, this course could save your life or even | Save you from being raped.” _ “This was the best training | have done in a very long time. | have newfound | _ confidence and self-defence skills, whereas | had zero confidence before in my _ ability. Also, the trainers explained everything very clearly — both the legal side and the _ practical moves. They came across as genuinely caring and created a real bond with _ the group.” _ "There's no denying the knowledge shared by this charity can save lives. The sessions aimed to improve safety and build confidence, and they do - it's helped me with _my own anxiety - but it's the fabulous volunteers that have also left a lasting impression.”
_ For more details on the vulnerable people we have helped during the last year and the _ impact we have had both locally and nationally, please see our Social Impact Report 2024-25 on our website (www.ScotCPS.org.uk).

Donated facilities and services (if any) _ We donate the Main Hall of Centre and its facilities as well as our Personal Safety training and wellbeing activities to various local groups including clients of Penumbra, First Steps - Young People, the Community Brokerage Network, Positive Pathways, people with learning disabilities and people who are sensory impaired. We also let various local charities and groups use our Training Room, free of charge.
From a service viewpoint, most of our Personal Safety talks, training sessions and courses are provided free of charge or at an extremely reduced rate. Money should not be a barrier to our empowering training!
APPENDIX 1
Other optional information
This was our 12" year as a charity (the previous 16yrs were as a not-for-profit social enterprise) and our objective for this year was to redevelop our Barony St John Centre into a Wellbeing Centre, offering various mental and physical wellbeing services to help the most vulnerable people in our local community. This was partly achieved as we only managed to complete the building of our extension in December 2024. Our community café opened in June 2025 and our wellbeing services are due to start in September 2025.
Receiving funding for a two-year period this year has helped our charity plan ahead and grow. Although, as we offer almost all of our services free-of-charge to vulnerable people who can't afford to pay for our training, we obviously worry about future funding - for projects, core costs, maintenance, staff, etc. etc. Ideally, with the huge, welldocumented, positive impact we have on vulnerable people throughout Scotland, combined with the many national recognition award we have received over the years which verify our impact, we truly hope that The Scottish Government will one day step in and fund us over a long-term period. Our fingers are crossed.
Moving forward, our objective for Year 13 is to grow our wellbeing activities in our Barony St John Centre to help the most vulnerable people in our local community. And obviously to continue offering empowering Personal Safety courses and workshops to vulnerable people throughout Scotland.
