## **Structure, Governance & Management**
## **Governing Document:**
Lochend Community Growing Project was recognised as a Scottish Charitable Incorporated Organisation (SCIO) on 22[ nd ] May 2013.
## **Trustee Recruitment & Appointment:**
At each AGM, the members may elect any member (unless he/she is debarred from membership under clause 63 to 65 of the Constitution) to be a charity trustee. All of the charity trustees elected / appointed shall retire from office, but shall then be eligible for re-election.
## **Objectives & Activities**
## **The Charities Charitable Purpose:**
- _The provision of recreational facilities, or the organisation of recreational activities, with the object of improving the conditions of life for the persons for whom the facilities or activities are primarily intended through the provision of inclusive community led greenspace projects and activities in Lochend and the surrounding areas._
## **Summary of the main activities in relation to these objectives:**
Promoting a healthier life-style for people living in an inner-city socially deprived area through: connecting with nature, growing vegetables / fruit, healthy diet, exercise, social interaction, learning new skills at workshops and boosting self-confidence.
We run a garden with a membership for up to 53 individuals / families or community groups to have their own raised bed and share the communal polytunnel, tools and communal herb beds and forest garden produce. We also host open days and workshops throughout the year that are free and open to everyone in the community.
## **Achievement & Performance for 2025-26**
## **Events / activities:**
- June 2025 - Two garden open days - welcoming the start of summer on the 1st and a barbeque on the solstice. We also celebrated our expanded pond and biodiversity corner.
- August 2025 - A jam making session, three yoga sessions over three weekends and our AGM.
- September 2025 - A silent disco on International Day of Peace.
- October 2025 - A foraging walk and food tasting session.
- November 2025 - Wildcrafting when we made a toad abode for our biodiversity corner.
- December 2025 - A Christmas wreath and decorations workshop.
- February 2026 - A pruning workshop supported by Edinburgh Botanics.

- April 2026 - Another silent disco and a visit to the Palm Houses in Edinburgh Botanics.
- May 2026 - Replaced our 15 year old shed roof which had been leaking and badly damaged by Storm Eowyn in February 2025.
- We had garden workdays in July, October, November and April.

## **Performance:**
- Our membership year is 1[ st ] February - 31[ st ] January aligned to the growing year. By September 2025, all 53 membership beds were taken and we had a waiting list for February 2026. Ten members didn’t renew in February 2026. All ten beds are now taken as at August 2026 and we have a waiting list for February 2027.
- This year we successfully applied for grants totalling £6,660.75 to:
- Host a series of wellbeing events in 2025;
- Replace our shed roof to withstand the windy Edinburgh weather;
- Host a number of events including a silent disco and Christmas workshop and to replenish our paths;
- Provide free food to members and non-members at our open days and social events for twelve months.
- In June 2025 - May 2026 we spent £1,792 of these restricted funds and we carry over £4,868.75 into June 2026 - May 2027.
- In spring 2026 we transferred our charity bank account to a new bank to take advantage of their interest-bearing charity savings accounts for our reserve funds.
## **Financial Review**
## **Statement of Reserves Policy:**
Lochend Community Growing Project aims to hold a reserve of £4,500 in the bank in the event of having to replace our uninsurable assets if damaged by weather or vandalism. This includes the polytunnel frame and internal staging, water butts and composting system.

## **Details of Donated Facilities & Services:**
The Charity benefits from the time given by all the Trustees to the running of the Charity.
## **Statement of Trustees Responsibilities**
The members of the Charity must prepare financial statements which give sufficient detail to enable an appreciation of the transactions of the Charity during the financial year. The members of the Charity are responsible for keeping proper accounting records which, on request, must reflect the financial position of the Charity at that time. This must be done to ensure that the financial statements comply with the Charities and Trustee Investment (Scotland) Act 2005, the Charities Accounts (Scotland) Regulations 2006.
They are also responsible for safeguarding the assets of the Charity and must take reasonable steps for the prevention and/or detection of fraud and other irregularities.

## 5. **Trustee Remuneration and Related Party Transactions**
The Trustees did not receive any remuneration or expenses during the year.
## 6. **Nature & Purpose of Funds**
The statements of account for the year show the financial figures for the Charity. Unrestricted funds are available for use, at the discretion of the Trustees, for the sole benefit of the Charity and its running costs. Restricted funds comprise grants given for specific projects (see page 6), and can only be used for those stated purposes

## **Independent Examiner’s Report on the Accounts 1st June 2025 - 31st May 2026**
Report to the trustees of Lochend Community Growing Project SCIO, registered charity number SC044024, on the accounts of the charity for the period to 31[ st ] May 2026 set out on Pages 7 to 8.
## **Respective responsibilities of trustees and examiner**
The charity’s trustees are responsible for the preparation of the accounts in accordance with the terms of the Charities and Trustee Investment (Scotland) 2005 Act and the Charities Accounts (Scotland) Regulations 2006. The charity trustees consider that the audit requirement of Regulation 10(1) (d) of the Accounts Regulations does not apply. It is my responsibility to examine the accounts as required under section 44(1) (c) of the Act and to state whether particular matters have come to my attention.
## **Basis of independent examiner’s statement**
My examination is carried out in accordance with Regulation 11 of the Charities Accounts (Scotland) Regulations 2006. An examination includes a review of the accounting records kept by the charity and a comparison of the accounts presented with those records. It also includes consideration of any unusual items or disclosures in the accounts and seeks explanations from the trustees concerning any such matters. The procedures undertaken do not provide all the evidence that would be required in an audit and, consequently, I do not express an audit opinion on the accounts.
## **Independent examiner’s statement**
In the course of my examination, no matter has come to my attention:
1. which gives me reasonable cause to believe that in any material respect the requirements:
- to keep accounting records in accordance with section 44(1) (a) of the 2005 Act and Regulation 4 of the 2006 Accounts Regulations, and
- to prepare accounts which accord with the accounting records and comply with Regulation 9 of the 2006 Accounts Regulations,
- have not been met; or
2. to which, in my opinion, attention should be drawn in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.
