Objects, prlnclpal actlvities and organisation.
Constltution
The charty was constituted on 28th November 2012, charity number SC043604 and
is a Scottish Charitable Incorporat￿ Organisation (SCIO) with the election of
Board of Trusteeslmembers.
The Trustees of the management committee may be drawn from the membership, as
defined in Ihe Constitution.
Racrultmant and Appoinlment of Trustees
All of the charity trustees are appointed or reappointed by the members at our
annual general meeting which is held in June. MCASS has a diverse board, four out
of six Trust￿8 are BME with a range of skills, expertise and lived experiences that
enables the charty to deliver the charity's aims and objectives outlined in our
constitution.
Remunèration of Charity Trustees
Our Twsteeslmembers will be paid out of pctket expenses whilst on organisation
business, unless they are ernployed by the organisation in which case, they will be
paid under an employment contract. The charrty trustees did not re￿1ve any
remuneration or expenses during the year.

Risk Management
The management commfftee assess the major risks to which the charity is exposed
on a regular basio and have established procedures to rnit￿ate thooe risks that are
identified as a result of these reviews.

The management team is aware and continues to recognise that the￿ is a need to
follow the gumlelines of our reserves policy.

Community Outreach Support serVI￿S lo families affected by Drugs arid Alcohol
Misuse. Community Training and Workshops, Events and Activities, Stronger
Together Groups, Emergency packages lo relieve the impact ol the cost -of living
crisis to people from the Black Minority Ethnic (BME) Communities in the Greater
Glasgow area.
The chanty is established to pursue the following objectives
To advance health by estsblishing a communty-based counselling, advice
and support centre offering a dedicated, professional accessible support and
guidance to those with addictions or their families, primarily aimed at minority
communrties;
To provide a social support service foi the relief of those in need to assist with
recovery from addith'on.
To advan￿ education by raising awareness of alcohol, drugs and gambling
issues and edu￿te about addiction and related issues arid providing support
to existing seniices through training and adopting strategies for recognising
and screening for addiction issues,.
To promote equality and diversty by supporting and aiming to eradicate
cultural barTters through the delivery of these services.

Chairperson's report
As an organisation MCASSS delivers needs-based support to people in the Black
Minorrty Ethnic Communities in the Greater Glasgow aieas. We deliver our projects
on a Grassroots level in the heart of these cornmunrties. Helping and supporting
those affected.
MCASS projects and activities have continued to develop in response to the
challenges faced by people. We identified that people were struggling with multiple
challenges and we navigate potents'al barriers and encourage engagement.
Our partnerships with Glasgow Cty Health and Social Care Partnerships (HSCP)
Alcohol and Drugs Partnerships (ADP) Glasgow Coul iknii on Alcohol, Elevate
Glasgow, Communrty Addiction Teams (CAT) NHS Health Improvement teams,
Scottish Drugs Forum, Families Outside, Scottish Families Affected by Alcohol and
Drugs and with Community Recoveiry Netrlorks for our addiction support Servi￿5.
Women's Health Network, Equality and Human R￿htS Team. Greater Pollok
Community Hub, South West Arts and Music Project (SWAMP) Glasgow Life and SP
Energy Network's "Network Natters" also wrth LEAP (Local Ethergy Advice
Partnership) and Fire Department Scotland. The Glasgow city food plan, this work
was showcased the Advanced Research centre (ARC) at Glasgow Universty, as
Pdrt of an Exliibition. Nourishing Resilience. an artistic perspective on Food
Sovereignty. We have made use of local communty hubs and venues regularly
throughout the year.
I would like to thank all our management team, staff and volunteers who have
worked incessantly throughout the year for their diligen￿, commitment and
dedication In the most challenging of times. They have been imperative in the
development, design and delivery of our projects and have been instrumental in the
day-to-day running of tlie charity and have worked hard to ensure MCASS services
and activities have been delivered.

We brought forward £366.237.79 from the financial year ending 3011112023.
During the year 0111212023 to 30111r2024, the tharity raised £192,555.00 from
funding and £1,396.69 in other income, making a lotsl of £193,951.69.
We spent £83,005.63 Our Receipts and Payments Account, on Page 16 of this
report. provides a detailed breakdown of our spending under each category.
As in previous years, we sought competilive prices for all of our expenditure.

Report to the Trustees
MCASS delivered needs-based projects to support people from the Black & Minority
Ethnic (BME) communth'es in the Greater Glasgow areas. We support people who
have been impacted by Drug and Alcohol Misuse. Mentsl health, Physical Health,
Isolation and Loneliness and poor Health and Well-being. Addttional daily challenges
this year included more people struggling with Food Poverty and the Cosl-of-Living
Crisis.
Our projects work by providing a brxlge between existing services. 95 /0 of the
people we supported were from the Pakistani and Indian population and 50/0 from
mixed ethnic groups African, mixed Arab and Middle Eastem population. Our support
allows people to have equal access to help, support and treatment servi￿S Without
any cultural, language barriers and help Ihem and communities to achieve longer
lasting posrtive legacies and outcomes.

MCASS Projects
Family Life Matters Project
Family Life Matters project supports Black Minority Ethic individuals and families
whose lives have been impacted by Drug and Alcohol misuse in the Greater
Glasgow areas. Our key activities focused on assessmen( management,
Infomation, help and support, harm reduth'on and maintaining recovery.
We offered:
One-one support sessions help and support people to work through their
issues and be better equipped and prepared for prevention, reduction and
their recovery joumey and treatment with signposting and referrals.
Family support and mediation works wrth famity members, supporting them to
understand addiction and addiction related behaviours. strengthening their
resilien￿, empowering them to be able to cope better and support each other
better. Referrals and signposting them for any additional support they may
need.
We have a large range of partners and networks we can access and work with
because of the different needs of people and the areas they INe.
We worked in partnerships with Glasgow City Health and Social Care
Partnerships (HSCP) Alcohol and Drugs Partnerships (ADP) Glasgow Council
on Alcohol, Elevate Glasgow, Communty Addiction Teams (CAT) NHS Health

started taking dwgs which got out of control. I did not know who I was anymore. I gave
my mum a hartl lime and I was always asking her for money. I could hear my mum
crying, but I didn't care. With the support of MCASS I can see things differently. I got
treatment and slowly things a￿ getting better. I have leamed a lot and I take each day

"I destroyed everything in my life which started with me getting hooked on alcohol
then drugs, for years I did not listen to my family or how I was destroying them. With
the support of MCASS I have personal powpr, I have taken control of my life, mad8
some good choices and taken the fitst step gethng off my alcohol and drugs. It's not
been easy, and I have a long way to go. I now have hope and l am getts'ng my family

1st Case Study
Person misusing, Male, Early 20s.
Presenting issues.
Misusing Alcohol, amphetamines, LSD, cocaine, ecstasy. opiates and opioids. a
mixture of benzodiazepines misuse, marijuana, balloons, gases, aerosols, laughing
gas, magic mushrooms - a mixture of hallucinogenic and synthetic cannabinoids
misuse, vaping.
Unemployed. frequently fighting and stealing from family also in the criminal justice
system, arrested regularty, establishing himself in the drugs networks for buying and
dealing drugs, got a small number of young runners, charged and further charges
pending. Hospitalised, overdosed twice, unresponsive and physical injuries.
Unstable challenging behaviours.
He was referred to the cornmunty addiction team (south) and began his recovery
journey, community mental health to aC￿sS support for his poor mental health and
he was referred to a physiologist. He did initially struggle but went further himself to
seek addrtional support and a volunteer pla￿ment He is now abstinent. no longer in
the criminal justi￿ system, no charges pending, he is now doing taking classes to
improve his grades and has re￿ntlY started as an apprenti￿ in electronics.
2nd Case Study
Person misusing, Female, 50s.
Presenting issues;
Misusing opiates and opioids, a mixture of benzodiazepines misuse. Unsafe
prescription medication misuse.
Unemployed, Lonely, isolated, OCD. poor mental health, struggling with depression,
anxiety. Hospitalised numerous times for being nearly unresponsive.
She has joined our women's peer support group. She is an active member ofthe
group and has participated fully. She is no longer using prescription medication
unsafely. she is no longer isolated. her mental and physical health has improved,
she has started to help her husband in the family business, she has started to drive
again.
3rd Case Study
Person misusing, Male, Late 30s.
Presenting issues;
Misusing Alcohol, amphelamine. LSD. cocaine, ecslasy. opiates and opioids. a
mixture of benzodiazepines misuse, manjuana, speed.
Self£mployed, ex-offender and re-estsblished as a dealer and has a large group of
runners and seller5 on his team, buying and dealing drugs, owes a lot of money to
main supplier of drugs. Hospitaltsed. overdosed, unresponsive. Poor physical health,
damage visibte. Isolated, poor mental health. struggling with depression. Family
breakdown and disconnected. His wrfe has taken on his role as main provider to
keep the roof over their heads
He has been in residential rehab followed by a referral to ph￿niX Futures in to
sustain his recovery and receive addition support for other issues that need to be
resolved. He has started working again. his wife has reduced her hours and is able
to spend her free time doing what she wants lo do. The family have reconnected and
are rebuilding their relationships with each other.

Rapid Response Project
Rapid response is our response to Cost-of-Living crisis. This is a volunteer- Led
project which supplies families that are struggling wrth food and supplies to help
them feed their families with food packages suitable to their dietary, religious and
cultural needs to help redu￿ the impact of living in povety.

Stronger Together Groups
We run two Peer-Led Support groups, an online group and a face-to-face group.
They are fundamental lrfeline for Black Asian Minority Ethnic women in the Greater
Glasgow area. Who are vulnerabbe older women, isolated or have been impacted by
drug and alcohol misuse, trauma, poor mentsl health, poor physical health, isolation
and loneliness, their health and well-being and with poverty food poverty and the
Cost-of-Living Crisis. The groups are delivered by bi-lingual workers to help reduce
any language barriers and increase engagement.
Kush Projact
Our online peer support group is designed for those women who need support but
have personal barriers or family reasons and have difficumies meeting face to face.
This platform gives the women flexibilty and opportunity to make new friends, stsy
connected, share stories, information and leam together in a safe, confidential,
discreet place.
Paratha in the park project
The group meet weekly to leam, make and sustain posrtive social connections women
have access to a safe non-judgemental supportive plaffonn to help encourage their
self-development, self*steem, Self-confiden￿$, have a voice and be included.
The women are able lo have new opportunities, leam new skills, be active and develop
leadership roles, be part of a safe group without St￿Ma or being judged. Including one-
one support, peer support, focusing on women needs arKJ issues. We encourage the
group to discuss, plan. make decisions. share knowledge and offer each other
emotional and practical support and work better together.

Lady N- Case study
A quiet elderly lady who has found a reason to try and smile. Having Èxperienced many
tragedies and trauma throughout her life she had accepted her fate to never be happy
and be isolated with poor mental health. She said she was struggling to cope with her
grief and was unable to comprehend life. She said by being around others, being able to
talk openly, feel supported, learning new skill, making new friends, she feels Sess isolated,
her mental and physical health has improved. she has hope and a voice now and
listening and sharing with her peers she has gained a sense of self-worth. She has
embraced positive meaningful changes and cultivating these positive connections.

Service Development
MCASS develops in response to our monitoring and evaluations of the BME
communty by gathering information. Their input helps us to plan a more formal
framework and design our work wrth infomied input. Partnership working with multi-
agencies is essential and makes a huge positive impact to help achieve best
outcomes and is beneficial, valuable and a supportive resour￿, information, training
and share best practice sustaining positive delivery of servI￿s.
Monitoring and evaluating
Session notes, participation, attendan￿ and engagement data, questionnaires,
focus groups, reviews, case studies, staff notes, verbal feedback, worker's diary with
obsetvations and reports produced in addition to the intemal systems and processes
outlined above. Regular reporting to all funders in line with responsibilities and
expectations, ensures accountabilrty for service delivery operationally, strategically
and externally.
Staff
Our management committee and delivery staff are a diverse tsam from various
ethnic and cuttural backgrounds wilh a combination of skills and lived experiences.
Backgrounds, qualifications and experience in finance, legal and Law, IT technology
and digital, mental heafth and medical professionals. NHS Incident and risk officer,
also other roles working within their communities. We have one full time worker and
three part-time paid members of staff and sixteen volunleers, combining their
expertise and capabilrties to deliver essential help and support.

We re¢rurt and train volunteers to increase their capacty and skills. They are
imperative in the development, design and delNery of our project.
Tralnlng
We have orvJoing in-house and external training to strengthen their skills and
knowledge, for better understanding of their roles and responsibilities and enhance
service development.
Future
MCASS aims to build on our development and maintaining standards to ensure
Sep41￿ delivery of our projects. Secure longer-temi funding. Build and sustain our
partnerships. Delivering more holistic fo". people wth addiction, mental
health. health and V￿lIbeing, food povety and cost of living crisis. Redu
organisations carbon footprint by working differently. Building on our achievements
and on the work. we have accomplished this year and look at more intuitive models
for sustainability.

processes from applirAtion, award and reporting are easber. Open communication
and ongoing discussions have been a great tool. Allowing to discuss any movement
and changes to the projects and made our work easier and helped you to
understand our projects better vthich allowed us to steer our work to targeted needs
to people in the heart of the BME communities quickly and efficiently. All this work,
delivery models and all these positi've impacts and outcomes would not have been
