The Buzz Project Report l December 2023-30, November 2024 Artivlties We had a b¥Jsy year at the project with a number of activities running throughout. We supported a number of people with their college applications and with writing their Cws. We supported our young people with preparing for exams and managing the stress of prelims and exams. We ontinued to work with the Univer51ty of North, West and Hebrides. supporting their music student5 to host their live performances. We continued our work with Music Broth Library, giving young people access to a large library of musical instrument5, as well as access to different workshops. We also continued to offer our drop in sessions throughout the week. Achlevements We further continued on the success of previous years. The project was attended by an average of 25 young people a night throughout the year. We worked closely with the emergency services, keeping the young people and the community safe. We have continued to work with young people to discover what different opportunities are available to them. Out of the 8 people who had applied for college last year, 5 continued on to higher education and 3 graduated and sought employment. Dro in sessions and Studlo 2 The drop in sessions have been well attended with a significant rise in young people identifying as LGBT+ attending these se55ions. Some of the young people in the community will drop in to charge their phone5, grab some snacks or drinks, and drop in to wait for their bus. Others will attend for full sessions. Because of how we are strurtured, we have removed the pressure and hopefully a barrier for young people attending. They krbow that we are always there and that they can those when they access the support. The group have redesigned the space to work for them. There is now a quiet area through in the back with softer lighting ond access to games and an overhead projector to plav games on. Through in the main space, there is the music and access to the stage and a variety of instruments. There is a game table for Chess, card games and board games. There is also a pool table in the main area which has been very popular. There is the bar area with power points and USB 50ckets to charge phone and to use laptops for studying and for gaming. l**E W0￿$hO and leamin As with previous year5, there were 3 number of workshops and activities run for the group: Sound production- The young people learned about sound production throuBh this workshop and learned how to mix their tracks to Bet a sound that they liked. Bass Lessons- Young people learned how to play the bass 8Ultar and learned some new son8S to plav Drum le550ns- Young people learned how to play the drums and learned a variety of different beats and fills to play Song writing and rap- The young people learned how to expre55 themselves through song writing and then how to put their son85 io a beat. This was a very popular workshop and has been run twice, with plans io run it again Creative art sessions- We have had a number of different art mediums to work with. We made jewellery and keyrings from old guitar picks. We created different art using scrat¢h art and air dryin8 clay. The younB people also redes18ned their space putting up various drawin85 and art work around Studio 2. We have continued to develop our upcycling project, turnin8 old instruments in to art and functional pieces. Music Events- We held a number of music events. Continuing our partnership with UHI, We hosted their showcase events for their NC, HNC and HND music students. This year, this also included o separate night for the DJ students. These events were well attended with not only our young people but by the community, seeing the lar8est numbers we have ever had. We a150 were able to have live performances from artists Steeljoy and Jonny Culper. Karaoke se55ions- We held a karaoke session for our young people that became so popular, it became a monthly event. These sessions support our young people to express themselve5 through music as well as increase their confidence in performing on Stage in front of an audience. Some of the quieter members of the group have really thrived within these sessions. Fln nclal review We received fundin8 from The Robertson trust, The Highland council Community Regeneration Fund, HTSI Mental health and well-being fund, UK Youth and Hi8hland council summer fund. The total income for this financial year was £41.780.01 and the total expenditure was £56,8Ca).$4 with deficit of -£15,020.53. This was due to the split of the funding from the Community regeneration fund falling in the change of our end of financial year and was accounted for in the surplus in the previous yearfs accounts. F*CJECI Reserves Poll As stated. there is no requirement in the constitution to hold any reserve5. However the trustees recognise that it 15 advisable to retain three months of nomial runnin8 costs in order to meet commitments and cover any unexpected expenditure. Plans for the tuture Funding will always remain a top priority to Continue with the sustainability of the projert. We will continue in seeking new fundin8 sources and will continue our work with our existing partners. Our plans to develop the recording studio had taken a setback as we dealt with the change5 when we lost out chair person. There are still plan5 to develop this project in the new year. We plan to continue to deliver workshops and offer different ?ctivitie5 to engage with the youn8 people within the community and continue to offer them a creative Space. We plan to continue to work with our partnershlps and foster new portnerships within the community. We plan to continue with our droppin service to support the young people in the Lochaber area, and hope to welcome in new people in to the space. Above all else, we plan to remain a fun, warm, safe space.
