Charitable purposes

The purpose of the charity is to promote activities and deliver operations to children and youth cared for and supported by Misión México Foundation in Tapachula, Mexico.

The Misión México Foundation (Mexico) aims to break the cycles of poverty, abuse, and inequality and provide opportunities and resources for every young person in our programs to thrive in all aspects of their lives and become the best version of themselves. Our vision is to ensure that all youth in our home-based and community programs have access to education, personal development opportunities, and health and well-being services, in a safe and inclusive environment to nurture their potential.

The Mision Mexico Foundation strives to accomplish the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs):

Achievement and Performance

Financial review

During the year we have raised £88,067 in unrestricted funds. £78,653 of which were raised through corporate sponsorship and corporate events. We saw a significant increase in our corporate event income this reporting period due to a long standing Corporate Partner, Compound Cares, raising £55,316 through events and individual donors.

An additional £5,695 was raised through MMUK fundraising events and MMUK supporter events, including a £3,000 donation for being selected as the charity partner for an annual fundraising event organised by Push & Glide Swimschool. £3,719 was raised through our monthly child and program sponsorship programs.

OSCR Annual Accounts

MISION MEXICO UK SC042838

Funds raised were in support of all Mision Mexico Foundation programs and charity running costs, including the expansion of Mision Mexico Foundation’s Community Development Program and increase in staffing levels and human resources in Mexico.

An investment of £2,406 was made in order to deliver a series of UK fundraising events and global corporate events, which proved to be a successful return on investment. Salary costs decreased to £6,538 compared to the 2024 costs of £35,574 as a result of moving to a model of employing more local staff in Mexico and therefore reducing international staffing and contracting costs as of March 2025. Salary costs for the Mision Mexico Foundation Director, previously partly funded by MMUK, was solely funded globally by Mision Mexico Foundation in 2024/2025. The Mision Mexico Foundation Director holds a position on the Mision Mexico UK Board as a Trustee, which is an unpaid, voluntary position.

Program costs for Mision Mexico Foundation, including property rental in Mexico (£2,282), and professional services for digital and fundraising delivery (£4,000), were funded by MMUK,

In order to manage tax exposure in Mexico on cash surpluses; funds are left in the UK until required, largely to cover staff costs and hedge the foreign exchange risk.

Financial Position

The focus of the organisation is to raise funds to support the children who live in the refuge, and youth who are supported by the community development programs, and ensure a dedicated team of local staff can care for the children, and deliver program and organisational needs. The amount of funds made directly available is dependent on our surplus after our core running costs. Our policy is to maintain at least six months running costs.

At the time of signing, Mision Mexico UK has sufficient cash reserves of £100,757 to continue to meet operational costs, deliver fundraising activities within the UK, and support program delivery costs in Mexico.

Plans for the future

During the year, the Charity has successfully exceeded fundraising targets, increased awareness internationally through partnerships and events, maintained a consistent individual donor base, and increased support from corporate sponsors. This has allowed for a significant expansion in Mision Mexico Foundation (Mexico) at operating and delivery levels, with programs and support being delivered to over 12,000 youth across three different locations in Tapachula and surrounding areas, 70% of whom are women, girls and babies.

Moving forward, our activities will continue to support Mision Mexico Foundations children's home and community development programs in Mexico, as well as providing staffing resources, and administrative and financial support.

The 2025/2026 FY will see Mision Mexico UK increasing its support to Mision Mexico Foundation (Mexico) by funding monthly program expenses.
