Objectives and Activities

Charitable purposes

The purpose of the charity is to promote activities and deliver operations to children and youth cared for and supported by Misión México Foundation in Tapachula, Mexico.

The Misión México Foundation (Mexico) aims to break the cycles of poverty, abuse, and inequality and provide opportunities and resources for every young person in our programs to thrive in all aspects of their lives and become the best version of themselves. Our vision is to ensure that all youth in our home-based and community programs have access to education, personal development opportunities, and health and well-being services, in a safe and inclusive environment to nurture their potential.

The Mision Mexico Foundation strives to accomplish the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs):

  1. No poverty

  2. Zero hunger

  3. Good health & wellbeing

  4. Quality education

Summary of the main activities in relation to these objects

Fundraising which includes: (1) education, health & wellbeing, and community development appeals, (2) seeking sponsors to assist with associated costs for educating children from kindergarten to university, (3) hosting events across the UK, and (4) obtaining and managing global corporate sponsorship and relationships.

Mision Mexico UK charity activities also includes: (1) awareness raising using digital and social media (website, Facebook, Instagram, Twitter) to highlight issues facing children in Mexico and demonstrating how Mision Mexico Foundation makes an impact, (2) funding staffing costs, and (3) providing administrative and technical support.

Achievement and Performance

Financial review

During the year we have raised £55,927 in unrestricted funds. £41,808 of which were raised through corporate sponsorship and corporate events to support our Education Program and the expansion of Mision Mexico Foundation’s Community Development Program. £10,731 was raised through our individual giving and child sponsorship program. Due to our annual fundraising campaign being moved from May 2024 to December 2024, this year's fundraising income saw a significant decrease to £3,358 as per SoFA.

OSCR Annual Accounts

MISION MEXICO UK SC042838

An investment of £10,964 was made in order to deliver a series of UK fundraising events and global corporate events, which proved to be a successful return on investment. Salary costs decreased to £35,574 compared to the 2023 costs of £52,397 as a result of moving to a model of employing more local staff in Mexico and therefore reducing international staffing and contracting costs. Salary costs were also raised to pay part of the salary for the Mision Mexico Foundation Director, who is based in Mexico nine months for the year, and in the UK 3 months of the year. The Mision Mexico Foundation Director holds a position on the Mision Mexico UK Board as a Trustee, which is an unpaid, voluntary position.

In order to manage tax exposure in Mexico on cash surpluses; funds are left in the UK until required, largely to cover staff costs and hedge the foreign exchange risk.

Financial Position

The focus of the organisation is to raise funds to support the children who live in the refuge and youth who are supported by the community development programs, and ensure a dedicated team of local staff can care for the children, and deliver program and organisational needs. The amount of funds made directly available is dependent on our surplus after our core running costs. Our policy is to maintain at least six months running costs.

At the time of signing, Mision Mexico UK has sufficient cash reserves of £28,184 to continue to meet operational costs, deliver fundraising activities within the UK, and support program delivery costs in Mexico.

Plans for the future

During the year, the Charity has successfully met fundraising targets, increased awareness internationally (largely through social media), maintained a large individual donor base, and increased support from corporate sponsors. This has allowed for a significant expansion in Mision Mexico Foundation (Mexico) at operating and delivery levels, with programs and support being delivered to over 12,000 youth across three different locations in Tapachula and surrounding areas, 70% of whom are women, girls and babies.

Moving forward, our activities will continue to support Mision Mexico Foundations children's home and community development programs in Mexico, as well as providing staffing resources, and administrative and financial support.
