May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that by the power of the Holy Spirit you may abound in hope. Romans 15:13
We live in an age where increasingly the tone set by certain world leaders is about ‘me first’, exploitation in the pursuit of acquiring riches and power – it’s all about getting and accumulating not just at the national level as many in power have abused their office before, but now on an international scale.
Completely counter to that, over the past 14 years since becoming one of the first registered SCIOs, Mwana Ministries has been about giving.
It was my privilege in July 2025 to visit Lusaka, Zambia for the first time and see first hand the work that Mwana Ministries does with children and young people. Via Doha, it’s a flight distance of 10,700 km or 6750 miles but it only takes 16 hours.
The trip had many highlights – joining the Mwana Mission team on visits to schools and compounds is an experience no one could forget. You see the contrast between the lack of provision of equipment and supplies in the classroom and the sheer joy and excitement of the children when the Mwana team, all from Lusaka, arrived to start a time of singing, dancing, Bible stories and prayer out in the sunshine. In the compounds, any resource of any kind is scarce. The children have very little, and many go barefoot.
Mwana Ministries brings the gifts of hope, of praise to a God who can be trusted, of inspiration to children and young people that show them that life is more than the accumulation of resources and the pursuit of wealth.
During the visit I also attended the opening of the new studio building in Lusaka. The studio stands as a testimony to the faith in God of those who believed the project could be done at all and to the provision of God who answered the call of the prayerful and delivered the skills, raw materials and funding to construct such a great building.
The studio will serve many purposes – it includes accommodation for visitors to go to Lusaka and support the work of Mwana Ministries, it has 2 rooms that serve as classrooms for a small group of primary school children, it has a large room for planning and developing ideas, it has a café for people to come together and the studio itself can be used for artists and performers within Mwana and beyond to develop and share their ministry of song, TV programmes and other media so that the Gospel can be shared far and wide.
The studio offers so many opportunities for the future development of the ministry. This has required us to think more strategically about the work and we have developed a three year strategy, setting out how the ministry can be developed, how the studio will be used and, most importantly, how we can invest in the skills of the team to support them in all they do.
Equipping the studio so that it’s full value can be realised will take more time, effort and funding. But having seen what God has done through the course of the project
over the past couple of years, the Mwana Trustees can be sure that God who started the good work will be faithful to complete it.
I could write so much more about the work of Mwana Ministries and what I experienced in my short visit but I will end this with a short piece by thanking:
-
the Mwana Team in Lusaka who take the Gospel to the children and young people and those who serve to make that happen
-
those who regularly, faithfully and sacrificially donate to the work of this remarkable wee charity
-
the Mwana Trustees who wrestle with the competing priorities of the ambition for the work and the resources available, and
Mwana’s Operations Director for her incredible work each year, juggling the responsibilities of her work and those of being a great mum to
Mwana Ministries punches miles above its weight in what it does and the impact it has, and you have all helped to make that possible. The first 14 years have been incredible – the next 14 years (and beyond!) offers so much opportunity.
Chair, Mwana Ministries

Respective responsibilities of trustee and examiner
The Charity’s trustees are responsible for the preparation of the accounts In accordance with the terms of the Charities and Trustee Investment (Scotland) Act 2005 and the Charities Accounts (Scotland) regulations 2006. The charity trustees consider that the audit requirement of Regulation 10(1)(d) of the 2000 Accounts Regulations does not apply. It is my responsibility to examine the accounts as required under section 44(1)(c) of the Act and to state whether particular matters have come to my attention,
Basis of independent examiner’s statement
My examination is carried out in accordance with Regulation 11 of the Charities Accounts (Scotland) Regulations 2006. An examination includes a review of the accounting records kept by the charity and a comparison of the accounts presented with those records. It also includes consideration of any unusual items or disclosures in the accounts and seeks explanations from the trustees concerning any such matters. The procedures undertaken do not provide all the evidence that would be required in an audit, and consequently | do not express an audit opinion on the view given by the accounts.
Independent examiner’s statement
In the course of my examination, no matter has come to my attention 1. Which gives me reasonable cause to believe that in any material respect the requirements: to keep accounting records in accordance with Section 44(1)(a) of the 2005 Act and Regulation 4 of the 2006 Accounts Regulations, and to prepare accounts which accord with the accounting records and comply with Regulation 9 of the 2006 Accounts Regulations
nave not been met, or
- to which, in my Opinion, attention should be drawn in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached
Director of Operations End of Year Report 2024/25
Abraham was told by God to leave his country and go to a land that God would show him, with the promise that He would make him a great nation. Yet Abraham waited 25 years to become a father. Twenty-five years is a long time, and if we are honest, not many of us would be willing to wait that long on God’s promises.
Waiting for God’s timing and purposes can feel incredibly hard. But when we choose to move in God’s time, there is a grace that comes from Him. Grace is a supernatural strength that actually makes obedience easier. This is something I can personally testify to in following the call of God on my own life.
From the outside, someone might look at the journey I have taken and assume it has been very difficult. But I can honestly say that it has not felt hard at all—quite the opposite. What truly becomes difficult is when we choose to live outside the will of God, and then have to face the consequences that follow.
The Mwana Studio building project has been a season like no other for us; full of hard work, countless decisions, and a constant need for funds. Yet through it all, we have clearly seen the grace and faithfulness of God at work. Since we began building in September 2023, there has never been a single moment when construction stopped because the funds were not there.
Even the delay in receiving the change-of-use document from the Lusaka City Council proved to be part of God’s perfect timing. A grant application was put on hold while we waited for this document, but during that period we were able to continue making progress on the building. When the funding application was eventually submitted, they could see that their support would help complete the project rather than merely start it.
As we know, donors look more favourably on a project that is already moving forward than one that remains only an idea. As a result, we were awarded a £30,000 grant—praise the Lord!
Whilst the building work made great progress throughout the year, Mwana Mission also expanded its outreach by adding five more schools, bringing the total to 22 schools and locations. Each week, more than 4,000 children are being reached for Jesus!
Proverbs 22:v6 is both a commandment and a promise: Train up a child in the way they should go, and when they are old they will not depart from it.” What a powerful assurance it is to know that thousands of children are being trained in God’s ways, with the promise that He will remain faithful to His Word.
This year, Mwana Ac two students through university: who is doing a nursing diploma, and from Zimbabwe, who entered her final year at the School of Mining in Bulawayo. We also had the privilege of supporting three children in primary school and three in secondary school. Each of these lives represents a future being shaped through education and hope.
We truly have so much to thank the Lord for. From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for your continued sacrifice and faithfulness in supporting Mwana Ministries. You are part of every life touched, every opportunity created, and every prayer answered. We simply could not do this work without you.
May God richly bless you, as you have so richly blessed others.
