Activities
'It carries out activities or services itself'
'the prevention or relief of poverty','the advancement of education','the provision of recreational facilities, or the organisation of recreational activities, with the object of improving the conditions of life for the persons for whom the facilities or activities are primarily intended'
Calton Area Association was set up to provide social and wellbeing activities for the community of Calton, which is a disadvantaged area with few facilities and opportunities for local residents. This is why a group of local people decided to get together and form Calton Area Association. Calton Area Association provides a range of community events and activities for residents of Calton and the wider East End of Glasgow. Our commitment to fostering social connections and promoting wellbeing and creativity remains at the heart of everything we do. Our activities include Christmas Extravaganza for local families, bus trips for senior citizens, bingo nights, arts and craft workshops, afternoon tea dances, cooking classes, sewing classes, gardening workshops, film days and Big Band nights to name but a few. We listen to our community and ask them what they want and where possible we will try our best to deliver. We are reliant on external grant funding to provide our activities.
Beneficiaries: 'No specific group, or for the benefit of the community'
Objectives: The Area Association's objects are: a) To relieve poverty among the residents of Calton in the East End of Glasgow. b) To advance education among the residents of the operating area, particularly, but not exclusively such education as will advance equality of opportunity and the proper observance of statutory equal opportunities legislation among the residents of the operating area. c) To promote other charitable schemes of community benefit, particularly, but not exclusively schemes which will improve access to housing and associated support and amenities among the residents of the operating area in need of such support by reason of youth, age, infirmity, disablement or poverty, with the object of improving their conditions of life.
