TRUSTEES REPORT (INCLUDING DIREcfoRS' REPORn
FOR THE YEAR ENDED 31 MARCH 2025
The trustees present their annual report and financial statements for the year ended 31 March 2025.
The trustees who are also directors of the charity for the purpose5 of the Companies Act 2006, present their
report with the financial statements of the charity for the year ended 31 March 2025. The trustees have adopted
the provisions Of "Accountin8 Reportin8 by Charities.. Statement of Recommended Practice applicable to charities
preparing their accounts in accordance with the Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of
Ireland IFRS 1021" which is effective for reporting periods beginning on or after l January 2015.
Objectives and activities
The Charity's objectives remain to provide support for women and families facing unexpected pregnancy or
pregnancy loss. including loss through abortion. These objectives are delivered through a combination of
emotional support, housing, material assistance. counsellin8 and education.
Objective l.. Governance
Strong governance and regulatory compliance remain central to the Charity's work. Ouring the year, the Charity
maintained the Trusted Charity Mark Level l. recognising high standards of leadership, management,
transparency, service quality, and financial stewardship. Work is on80in8 towards achievin8 Trusted Charity Mark
Level 2, which carries enhanced Bovernance and performance requirements.
The Trustees continued to monitor financial sustainability closely. Following the organisational restructure
implemented in 2023, the Charity entered the 2024-25 financial year with a more streamlined operating model,
increased locus on income generation, and tl8hter cost controls. This restructuring has materially improved the
Charity's financial resilience durin8 a challenBin8 economic environment.
Objectlve 2.. Serviees
The Charily continued to deliver its core services ihroughout ihe year. including eounselling. helpline support.
housing. parenting support. and material assistance. Oemand lor servites remained high. feflectlng ongoing cost-
of-llving pressures affecting many of the families supported by Lile.
Quality and innovation remain central to service delivery. The Charity continues to embed trauma-informed
approaches across its services and io work in collaboration wilh partner or8anisations to ensure women and
families receive compassionate, professional. and effective support.

TRUSTEES REPORT (INCLUDING DIREcfoRS' REPORn {COPfflNUED)
FOR THE YEAR ENDED 31 MARCH 2025
Objective 3.. Marketing and Communications
Marketing and Communications continued to support both service delivery and income generation. During the
vear, a brand revit¢ilisotion project was launched to reinvigorate Life's message, strengthen engagement with
supporters, and improve reach to women and lamilies who may need support. This work is expected to underpin
future fundraising growth and improve public awareness of the Charity's services.
Objective 4.. Income Generation
Income generation remains a strategic priority for the Charity. Fundrai5in8 performance durin8 the year was
mixed. Overall fundraising income finished £35.735 below budget. prirnarily due to lower-than-expected grant
income and underperforrnance in community fundraising.
The Charity was without a community fundraiser for part of the year. Other fundraisin8 Stream5 perfgrmed well,
reflecting the commitment and èflectivenÈss of the fundraising tearn.
Legaty intome was particularly slrong. with E510.675 re¢eived during the year. significantly ex¢eeding budget. The
Charity finished thè year £263.981 ahead of budget on legaty intome. whith matèrially mitigated the shortfall
experienced in grants, Irusts, and foundations income. Legacy in¢ome not received during the year bui anticipated
has been prudently included in the 2025-26 budget.
The Charity continues to refine lis fundraising systems. From l April 2024. changes to income coding and reporting
enabled the direct integration of fundiaising data from Civi into Xero. improving accuracy, transpareney. and real-
tlme financial oversight.
Objective S.. Finances
The Charlty ended the financial year with an overall deticit ol £57.927. This ￿preSentS a sl8nlficant movement
from the surplus position reported earlier in ihe year and was £56.746 behind the budgeted outcome.
The Trustees recognise that a delicit position is not atteptable in the lon8 term. However. they note that
expenditure remained consistently below budget across the organisation. due in part to vacant posts but also as
result ol disciplined cost management and iar8eied purchasing conirols.
The Charlty continues to be impacted by exiernal cosi pressures. particularly increases in the National Mlnlmum
Wage and Employers, National Insurance Contributions. These increases have had a material effect on operating
costs and have been fully incorporated into future financial planning.
Retail operations reported a £144.860 deficit for the year. ￿flectIng legacy lease commitments and trading
pressures. The Trustees continued the strategic exit from non-viable retsil leases, resulting in a significantlv
reduced retail portfolio of four shops, which are now collectively operating at a profit.
Housing performed strongly, finishing the year £86.285 ahead of the budgeted position, helping to offset deficits
elsewhere. Helpline Services reported a deficit of E124.707, lar8ely attributable to a historical budgeting error
relating to salary costs rather than operational overspend.
Overall, while the year ended in deficit, the Trustees are confident that the actions taken during and prior to the
year have strengthened the Charity's financial controls, reduced risk, and positioned Life more sustainably for the
future.
Objective 6.. Turnover
Rental income continued to represent the Charity's largest single source of income durin8 the year. The Trustees
remain mindful of the need to further diversify income streams to reduce reliance on any one Source and to
support lon8-term financial sustainability.

INDEPENDENT AUDITOR'S REPORT{COPfflNUED)
TO THE TRU5TEE5 OF LIFE 2009
Extent to whlch the audlt was consldered capable of detertlnB Irre8ularltles. Includln8 fraud
The objectives of our audit, in respect to fraud, are.. to identify and assess the risks of material misstatement of
the financial statements due to fraud,. to obtain sufficient appropriate audit evidence regardin8 the assessed risks
of material misstatement due to Iraud, through designing and implementing appropriate responses", and to
respond appropriately to fraud or suspected Iraud identified durin8 the audit. However, the primary responsibility
for the prevention and detection of fraud rests with both those charged with governance of the entity and its
mana8ement.
Our approach was as follows..
We identified areas of13ws and regulations that could ieasonably be expected to have a material effect
on the financial statements fiom our general commercial and sector experience. and through discussion
with the directors and other management las required by auditing standards). and discussed with the
directors and other management the policies and procedures regarding compliance with laws and
re8ulations'
We considered the legal and regulatory Irameworks directly applicable to the financlal statements
reporting framework IFRS 102 and the Companies Act 20061 and the relevant tax compliance regulations
in the UK,.
We considered the nature of the industry, the control environment and business performance, including
the key drivers lor management's remuneration;
We communicated identified laws and re8ulations throughout our team and remained alert to any
indications of non-compliance throughout the audit,.
We considered the procedures and controls that the company has established to address risks identified,
or that otherwise prevent, deter and detect fraud; and how senior mana8ernent monitor5 those
prts¢edures and ctsntrols.
Based on this understanding WÈ designed our audit procedurès to identify non-compliance with such laws and
regulations. Where the risk was considered io be higher. we pèrlormed audit procedures to address each
identified fraud risk. These procedures included.. testing manual journals., ieviewing the financial statement
disclosures and testin8 to supporting documentalion.. performing analytical procedures.. and enquiring of
management. and were designed to provide reasonable assurante thai the finant131 statements were free from
fraud or error.
Owing to the inherent limitations of an audit. the￿ is an unavoidable risk that we may not have detected some
material misstatements in the financial statements, even though we have properly planned and performed our
audit in accordance with auditing standards. For example. the further ￿MoVed non-compliance with laws and
regulations lirregularitiesl is from the events and transactions reflected in the financial statements, the less likely
the inherently limited procedures required by auditing Standards would identify it. The risk is also greater
regarding irregularities occurring due to fraud rather than error, as fraud involves intentional concealment,
forgery, collusion, ornission or misrepresentalion. We are not responsible for preventing non-compliance and
cannot be expected to detect non-compliance with all laws and regulations.
A lurther description of our responsibilities 15 available on the Financial Reporting Council's web51te at.. https'./l
