TRUSTEES REPORT FOR THE YEAR ENDING 31 MARCH 2026 2519(Strathmore) Squadron, Air Training Corps

2519(Strathmore) Squadron is one of the Air Training Corps Squadrons which make up Central Scotland Wing, Air Training Corps, which comprised 17 Squadrons and 4 Detached Flights spread throughout the Counties of Perth and Kinross, Fife, City of Dundee, Stirlingshire. The Wing now has an average strength of 450 cadets.

Cadets enjoy a wide range of activities including air experience training, glider training, sports and athletics, drill and United Kingdom and Overseas Camps, International Air Cadet Exchange, Air Cadet Pilot Navigation Scheme and the prestigious Air Cadet Flying Scholarship Scheme which offers 12 hours of fixed wing flying training.

Countless young men and women receive their first taste of flying and gliding through the Air Cadet Corps, and once these sees are sown many embark ona flying or engineering or other trade career in the Royal Air Force or with civilian airlines or Government Agencies. Former Air cadets have been successful in reaching the highest ranks in the Royal Air Force and also the most prestigious flying jobs such as test pilots and the Red Arrows Aerobatic Display Team. Several cadets from not only 2519 Squadron but from across the Wing and Corps have served operational tours both in flying and ground operations in Iraq and Afghanistan, Libya, Cyprus and Syria.

There have also been other former cadets carrying out ground and sea duties in these theatres of operations as members of the Royal Navy and Army.

We have several cadets going through further education at universities and further Learning Colleges and one former cadet is a serving Officer with Police Scotland.

Cadets in the Squadron have progressed well through the exam classification syllabus set by the Air Training Corp and through the rank process being promoted to Corporal, Sergeant and Flight Sergeant.

In the reporting year of 01April2025 till 31March2026, 2519 Squadron have had a very busy year right from the start of the year, when on 02 April, three Cadets were presented Music Badges by Wing Commander Kyle, the first of these badges for many years. The Cadets and badges were, Sgt Cook for drums, Cp! Campbell for pipes and Brown for Clarinet.

Between 04 and 12 April, Sgt S Kimber and 2 Cadets attended a Regional Easter Camp at Garelochhead.

Between 25 and 27 April, 2 Cadets attended a Blue Badge Camp at Leuchars Station.

On 11 May, Fit Lt Kemp and 5 Cadets attended the Perth and Kinross Council, VE Service at St John’s Church, Perth.

Between 23and 25 May, 6 Cadets and two Staff attended a Multi Activity Camp at Leuchars Station.

On 07 June, 15 Cadets and 3 Staff attended Central Scotland Wing Activities Day and took part in Drill, Banner Drill and First Aid Competitions.

On 12 June the Joint Cadet Centre was closed on the instructions of the Quartermaster of the Army Cadet Force due to fire extinguishers not having been serviced. The Squadron were very fortunate to be able to parade one night a week at the Guiding Centre, Emma Street, Blairgowrie, till 07 July when the Squadron was allowed to start parading again 2 nights a week at the Joint Cadet Centre.

On 21June, 4 Cadets from the Squadron went to the Central Scotland Wing trip to Alton Towers.

Between 28 June and 05 July, Cprl Harris attended the Scotland and Northern Ireland, Adventure Training Camp at the National Air Cadet Training Centre at Windermere.

On 03 July Fg Off Robertson took 3 Cadets and on 04 July Sgt S Kimber took 3 cadets to 12 Air Experience Flight at Leuchars Station, where each cadets received a 25 minute flight in a Tutor T Mk1.

Between 08 and 15 July, Fit Sgt Dyson and Sgt T Kimber attended a Gold Duke of Edinburgh Sailing Expedition from Oban to Aberdeen.

Between 12 and 19 July, Sgt Mucha and Cadets McCrystal and Shenstone attended, Central Scotland Wing, Adventure Training Camp, “Ex Central Ascent” at Otterburn Training area.

On 29 July Sgt S Kimber and Cadet Hall attended a Flying Muster at RAF Brize Norton, till 31 July, where they flew in a Chinook Helicopter.

On 03 August, 20 Cadets and 3 Staff participated in the Blairgowire Walkathon, in memory of Jordan Hart, an ex-cadet from the Squadron, who took his own life during Covid. Each Cadet was sponsored by members of the family and friends and relatives.

Cadets Dickson, Scott and Lilley departed on 05 August for a Scotland and Northern Ireland trip to the World War One Battlefields in Belgium. Thet returned on 10 August.

On 10 August, 10 Cadets and 3 Staff attended and participated in the “Salute to Perth”, along with Cadets from 38(City of Perth) and 1743 (Crieff) Squadrons.

29 August saw Flt Sgt Scarlett being presented with his Lord Lieutenants Badge and certificate of appointment at Morrisons Academy by the Lord Lieutenant Stephen Leckie.

Along with cadets from 38(City of Perth) and 1743 (Crieff) Squadrons, 10 Cadets and 3 Staff carried out Marshalling Duties at the Perth 10K, running event.

On 07 September 11 Cadets and 3 Staff carried out Marshalling and Recruiting Duties at Blairgowrie Highland Games.

Between 24 and 28 September, Cadet Dickson along with other Cadets from Central Scotland Wing went on a visit to the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight at RAF Coningsby and assisted at their friend’s day as well. The Battle of Britain Memorial Flight as a reward for the work the Cadets did, they all receiveda flight in the Flight’s Douglas Dakota.

On 27 September and on 26 October, 3 Cadets and 2 Staff attended Thomas Thomson's Berry Farm and carried out Marshalling Duties and a Charity Collection from members of the public who were picking berries.

Between 11and 18 October 3 Cadets and 1 member of Staff attended a Central Scotland Wing Adventure Training Camp at Garelochhead. At the same time Cprl Shenstone was attending an Adventure Training Camp at the National Air Cadet Training Centre at Windermere.

On 18 October Cadet R Campbell attended the Army Cadet Piping and Drumming Competition in Edinburgh, where he was placed 1* in Novice

(March) and 3 in Open Piping Jig. The first time any Cadet from the squadron has ever competed in this event.

02 November saw 4 Cadets and 2 Staff attending central Scotland Wing 5 a side Football Competition in Dundee.

On 08 November, Cadets Lilley and Scott attended as one of the Scottish Rugby Autumn Test Matches, at Murrayfield where they carried out duties prior to the kick off. This was again another first event for the Squadron.

09 November was Remembrance Sunday and all Cadets and Staff attended the Remembrance Service in Wellmeadow, Blairgowrie.

The Central Scotland Wing Swimming Competition took place at Perth Swimming Pool on 15 November and 6 Cadets and 3 Staff attended.

Between 28 and 30 November 10 cadets and 1 member of Staff attended a Camp at Leuchars Station, where 5 of the Cadets achieved the first Route Marching Award in Central Scotland Wing. This was another first for the Squadron and the Wing as well.

On 07 December, 3 Cadets accompanied by Fg Off Robertson attended at RAF Kirknewton outside Edinburgh to a Gliding Induction Course with 661 Venture Gliding Squadron. All the cadets received 3 flights in a Viking T Mk1 glider.

22 February 2026, saw 6 Cadets and 4 Staff attend the Central Scotland Wing, Cross Country Event at Inverkeithing High School.

Between 27 February and 01 March, 3 Cadets and 2 Staff attended a Multi Activity Camp at Leuchars Station.

Sergeant Mucha attended at the National Air Cadet Training Centre at Windermere to participate in a Paddle Sport Course between 07 and 08 March.

Between 14 and 15 March, 4 Cadets attended at Leuchars Station where they received training in the use of the L98 Rifle.

On 15 March Cprl H Brown and Cadet Steele attended at Livingstone High School as part of the Central Scotland Wing Cross Country team they were accompanied by Sgt S Kimber.

Between 21 and 22 March 1 Cadet attended a Bronze Cyber Course and 4 cadets attended a Bronze Space Course as part of a Bronze Training Weekend organised by Perthshire Sector and held at 38(City of Perth) Squadron, in Perth. They were accompanied by 2 members of Staff, who were instructors over the weekend. Both the Bronze Cyber and Space Courses werea first for 2519 (Strathmore) Squadron to participate in.

During the coming year 2519(Strathmore) Squadron will continue to deliver the Aims of the Air Training Corps to young people in the Blairgowrie area, which are,

1-To promote and encourage among young people a practical interest in Aviation and the Royal Air Force.

2-To provide training which will be useful both in Service and Civilian life.

3-To foster the spirit of adventure and to develop the qualities of leadership and good citizenship.
