ACHIEVEMENTS AND PERFORMANCE
The Cowlairs DevelopTnenl Trnst (CDT} ha5 been working with W¢51 of Scotland Housing
A5SO¢l8tion, with the aim of making some positive ¢hang¢s within the Iwal community.
One of the actions from the group wa5 to explore ihe nccd for a bike shcltcr lo¢ally, to encourdge
active travel and provide a more cost-elf¢ctive trdvel option. WSHA was successful with a funding
application. and the bike shcltcr has now been installcd, delivering much-needed bikc storage for the
local community.
This year, the Trust also supported WSHA wlth the O￿nIng of a new cornfflunity flat. An open day
was hosted wilhin the flal, offering a range ofaclivilies and inforniation tstalls, alongsid¢ oP￿)rtunItieS
for local pcople to find out mor¢ about seTh'ice& g¢t involved. and sign up as volunt¢us in their
community.
The Molly Weir Garden continu¢s to provide peaceful g￿en space for volunt¢ers and mcmbers of the
COJTJmunity to come tog¢ih¢r in a tranquil place. This year, we also supported WSHA and Willowac
Trust to dcliv¢r a gardening cour5c, which introduced participants to growing herbs, potatoes.
vegetables. and wildflower5, while also inv(Trlving them in plantinbtr dnd maintsitiingF the communtty
garden. In May, a team ()f12 volunteers from NalW¢sL supported by the commuiiity 8&rdener, 5P¢WIt
a day Iielping io further develop thc space by prnning. weedin& tilling plantcrs with soil, and plantiiig
hanging baskcls. ImprovemeT]t5 to th¢ garden were also support¢d by the Estat¢5 OtTicer, who arrdngrd

for broken iten]s and old planters to be r¢moved, alongsid¢ safety improvements and cleat]iDg of the
paths and paving.
Following the end of tbe l(kweek course. a weekly gardening group has now bccn establi5hcd in th¢
conllnunity garden to allow work to continue and to encouragE new participants to get involved with
support. With a small bui d￿]CalCd group, the gardcn has thrived and come a long way, with
participants ¥iving ddditional tiiiic b¢yond thc cour5¢ to watLT plants, wccd paving. and care for the
space. Whil¢ we supplicd ¢quipm¢nt and matcri&ls, group members have also contributsd plants of
tbeir own, helping thc garden to continuc to grow and flourish.
FINANCIAL REVIEW
The organisation madc a deficit of £13,951 (2024.. dcficit £13,933) for th¢ ye4T.
In relatiOD to tunds held. the directors havc considered thai ihe ideal levcl of funding would b¢ sufficient
to one yearof operatingcosts. At the yearend. ca5b at b1ll￿ w&5 £2,306 12024: £2,418} and thc directors
are of the opinion that this Icv¢l of funding is sufficient.
The directors have asscssed the major risks that the charity may facc and taken 5tCP5 to mitigatc Ihcsc.
The key risks are the lack of long ter￿ fi￿dIng for the work undertaken, as the otganisation is primarily
funded on a projcct by project bas15.
STRUCTURE, GOVERNANCE AND MANAGF,MF,NT
Cowlairs Devclopment Trust is a private company limited by guarnntee. and is a charity rccvgnised by
tbe Office of th¢ Seotlish Charity Regulator IOSCR). It is govcmcd by its Memor&ndum and Articl¢s
of AssociatlOD. The liability of members is £1 each. The company is R¢cepted as a ¢lJaritable body by
the InlarKI Revenue.
Member5 wishing to be¢ome director4 must he recommended by the &)ard or proposed by a frllow
metnber of thc charity, in advanc¢ of the generdl m¢¢ting. Thc chaitpersDn mccls with thc prospeetive
director and is proposed for election at a gcu¢rdl mecting. All ncw Board membcrs undertake an
inducrion probTallun¢ ¢Lnd thb Lliairp¢T5on mccts with thc ncw dirc¢tor. The new dtrector is given a
coJnplete set of accounts, mcmo and articles of as5wiation 8J]d OSCR gnidance for directors.
Under the requirements of the memor￿]dum a[￿ArtICleS of A550¢iation,on third of the directors shall
r¢tire from offi¢¢ at the annual general mecting. If willing, thcy ¢aD be rc-elected by the remaining
