Novice Juvenlle Band
We had seven members13 snare and 4 pipers) participate in fortnightiy. weeke￿1 educational classes between
November aThJ February which were ftthded ty the RSPBA North of ScotiarKI brarth. This culminated with
individual wa(tTcal perforniance and theory exam in IAarch wlth all sKcessfully passing ￿7r respective SCQF
8rade5. This was the fit5t titne sittiro exams f￿ sThne of them arKI we hy that they cOntIn￿ to progress
through the SCQF wtem and also that their ¥hSevements will etKourage more of our members to take rA4rt.
The first coM￿t￿￿)n of the year is always the RSPBA Ncth of kotiaTrJ quartet competftion in Huntly held in
March. We entered two quartets In the Grade 4B march and one in Grade 4A MSR. This was a good
intr￿uctI(￿ for some of our new meMi￿r5 a￿1 we were delighted to take 3rd place in the Grade 4B march.
The first f￿1 band contest was the RSPBA North of kotlaThJ indr￿￿ comwition al Huntly in April. ThT5 was our
first chance to gaL4e the $￿ceSS of winter preparations. and we were delighted to come away wlth flrst
place in Grath 4B and L￿St Bass section across Grades 4B and 4A.
This year saw the return of the BLKksburn and District co￿ert at AEerdeen IAusic Hall where we we
delighted to welcome Grade 1 band St. LawrerKe O'Toote from IreiaTrl. The Buckstmjrn and Distrfct Novlce pipe
band opened the secorxl half of the slTh¥. and we re(eived many FM)slti¥e cc¥nrnents.
The concert P￿Parati¢)nS set gfyyj stead, we built on earlier cc#npetition %Kcess at our fifst
outttor c(¥npetitii)n by placing flrst In Grade 4B at Band￿ry In May. This continued to the British
ChampioFthips at Forres in June wlwe we placed secorKd In the Novice Juvenlle B grade. Unfortunately> the
next competltion at Aberdeen HT8hland Games. one wÈek after the British Championship, was cancelled for
safety reason5 due to very heavy rain the nistht before and a subsequent waterlogged field. Therefore, it wa5
almost two months between the Britth Championship and the Scottish Championship in Dumbarton at the end
of July. Wlth hirK15ight, we s￿Id have t(M)ked for ar￿ther C￿￿￿tItIon in between as we inathertently lost
some f￿￿5 as a grnup. dropplng to 11th place in NOVI￿ JuYenTle B at the Scottish Championship. The end of
Julylstart of Au4U5t has always tten a difficult pffioj for the band with regards to group reheawis as It TS the
Tr￿fjn holiday period for many farnilies which results in a dip in attendance at band practices. Despite thls, we
managed to pfck ourselves w wlth a 7th place in Novlce Juvenile B at the European Championship in Perlh
week before heading to the World ChaMp*x￿Ip.
As alway5, we are pr￿d of our &y￿ng membe[5 vtho contlwe to reKYesent &Kksbum and District in solo pfiplng
and dnjmming cornpetltions across c(￿￿try as weil as those in the National Youth Pipe BarKI of Scotland
and they can be JL￿t[Y proud of thefjr own achievements. We are equally of those w￿> p￿fer only to
compete with the ba￿1. wtKJ continue to put in the hard work to enswe our performarKes remain at the

Grade 2
2024 was a￿ther Seas￿ away fr(¥n the cov￿]etIti(￿ clrcuit for B￿￿51￿M and District Grade 2 Pipe Band. Year

a leading dNmmer to take u5 into the CoM￿tItI￿ c?rcle for the 2024 seasc¥t. prevmjus few years. the

times. Thankfully. we find wrseives in a ffl￿h more [￿(tT¥e situation as we come out of 2024 wlth the retent
appointment of LD Tony Park.
The plpe co￿5 started off weparations for the 2024 season 3USt Ilke any other, wod(ing hard to improve the
playing week in, week out. AIthoL4h we weren't to be rAbt competing as a band thi5 year, the aim was alwajs
for the PiFe C¢XPS to still c(¥npete at the RSP&4 North of kotland Quartet competition in March. Thls contest
gave the band a goal which encouraged eVery(￿e to keep wtting the work In to Tmwove and kept the PTP
corps movlng In the right direction. The conWitSon wa5 a successful day for both the Grade 2 and Novlce
Juvenlle band.
The Grade 2 band. from 4 perfomHnce5, walked away with a 1st and 2nd place Tn Grade 2 and a 1st and 3rd
place in Grade 1. The re5￿ts from this competitfon gave twffyone a well needed boost and shch¥ed others that
even when stnryglTng as a band. we still have the ability to compete and be a top band here in the North east.
Altwh 2024 has b￿n ar￿ther very t0￿h year for the band. We flTrY ourselve5 weil wepared for the
challenges that the 2025 seaxjn may bring. preparatkw have started extremely well with us welcoming

Sutherland for her recent help in taking the dnjm corp5 Practi￿ while we scwrced a permanent Leathng
