'the advancement of education'

The charity is designed to advance the study of Philosophy, exchange of philosophical ideas, and philosophical education in Scotland. To promote philosophical education we provide block grants to universities with post-graduate programmes in philosophy in Scotland. The grants are to be used for developmental activities for post-graduate students, such as traveling to present at a conference. Each university also receives a grant for promoting the department's activities. On a rotating basis, we provide a grant to one university to host a visiting philosopher. Finally, we fund conferences in workshop in Scotland to facilitate the exchange of views. The board reviews proposals from organisers and provides a guarantee against loss, reimbursing the organiser or organising institution for incurred expenses up to an agreed upon limit.

Beneficiaries: 'Other defined groups'

Objectives: The objects of the association are: To advance education, and in particular through (a) promoting the study of philosophy generally (b) facilitating the exchange of views on philosophical topics among those teaching the subject in Scotland (c) providing a regular opportunity for the informal discussion of matters of general interest to philosophers, including particularly questions concerned with the teaching of philosophy.
