Achievements and performance
Summary of the main achievements of
the charity during the financial period
This focused on the completion of the 3wd and final year of the Corra
Foundation (Scottish Government) Small Grants Program, which
ended in April 2022. The 'ETAT- Changu Pamakn. Malawi project was lo
SUPFM)rt the up-skilling of tsjt￿ in c￿der for them to provide essential

Treatment) to nursing students. in addition to the ongoing training for
clinical officer and medical a55￿tant students.
Training the trainers:
Following disruption due to the pandemic, we ran further TOTlrefresher
training in July 2021 training 45 tutors. including 22 new tutor5 from
Malamulo, Blantyre and Lilongwe114 new tutors from Malamulo, 5 from
antyre and 3 from LilongNe)
In total. 53 new tutors were trained auoss 3 years of projec( building
AT teaching eapacty at all four campuses.
An end of proiect target was to improve kye-service ￿AT training. And so
an AST ￿Urse was estsblished which improved clinical skills and
simulation training in all instructors as assessed by exlemal monitors and
in post-course sknlls assessment. This AST course was designed and
ready for delivery in March 2020 when the pandemic hit. 2 AST courses
were run at MCHS Lik)ngNe and Malamulo College in July 2021. These
¢￿TSeS aL80 served as modffied Iraining of trainers" courses new
ttrtors. In totsl, 45 tutors from 3 campuses parb'cipated in the AST courses,
including 22 new tuIc￿.

Training future nurses:
We were able to complete 5 nursing courses between May 2021 and the
completion of the proiect. This included one course in Malamulo151
students), ￿ I￿nI nurSIn￿cCm courses in Blantyre136 nursing
students), one community nursing course in LilorKJwe {16 students) and
nalty one cwrse in Zomba174 students).
Despite delays and d￿llenge$ due to industrial action, the pandemic and
severe flooding, we were able to deliver 7 nursing ETAT courses, training
295 nursing stthlents, over Ihree years.
Training Medical sthdents:
Theie was an identtfied local need to urgenljy train a group of clinical
medicine students (Diplcrfna of Clinical Medicine IDCMI, and Certificate of
Clinical Medicine, CCMI, pnmanty a larger than usual clinical year group at
Malamulo College. These s￿dentS were due to graduate in late
20201earty 2021 having missed key clinical attachments due to the
pandemic. In the absence of this din￿al experience. simulatson
prc*Jrammes such as our ETAT prc#Jramme assume even greater
importance.
As we adapted to thi5 cOmp￿X situatiC￿ and considered local priorities we
delwered 15 ETAT courses for these dinical medicine students, training
703 students in 2021. In total. in three years we have provided 998
healthwe sludents with the skills to save lives.
Additional fundraising:
Donation to Kamuzu Central Hospital IKCHkAnaesthesia Department of
£3000 to pay f(x training for 2 sludents to train as anaesthetic clinical
officers as part of a programme to improve Ihe anaesthetic care of
children at KCH.

Children's Medical Care Malawi - Audit 2022.
During the fiscal year, the trustees were made aware of allegations against
the Principal of the Malawi College of Health Sciences, in his role as the
Project Manager of ETAT. As a consequence. a full audit of the operation
of the ETAT bank account was made by The Controller of The Internal
Audit SeNI￿S, Office of the President and Cabinet.
As part of my audit, I have reviewed the Audttors report. This dismisses all
the allegations made and concludes that the activities of ETAT (including
the operations on Ihe ETAT bank account) were being run in accordance
with the syllabus.
l understand a copy of the full Audit Report will be provided to The Corra
Foundalion, the principal funder of The Children's Medical Care Malawi
' October 2022.
