Governing Document
The Charity is a Scottish Charitable Incorporated Organisation (a SCIO). It was registered in its current legal form on 25 September 2015 and is governed by its constitution. The charity was previously an unincorporated association but changed its legal form to a SCIO.
Charitable Purposes
The objects of the club to promote public participation in sport and nurture community-based activities in Dundee East by encouraging all sporting activities and provide facilities for community development and encouraging community participation through volunteering.
Activities and Achievements
The Club have had another busy and successful year and now have eight adult teams and thirtyseven youth teams from our member clubs - Broughty Athletic JFC, Broughty United Amateurs, Craigie Amateurs, Dundee East Over 35s, Dundee East Over 45’s, Dundee East Women’s Recreational FC, Dundee Discovery FC and Dundee East Walking Football plus Broughty United YFC, Douglas YFC, Dundee East Girls FC and Ferry Athletic YFC. We continue to work through our 2024 - 2029 Strategic Plan and good progress has been made. eFootball Development - led by Gary Thain. We are looking to develop our football offering to our members. e Facilities - led by Peter Ryder. We want to make sure what we currently have remains at its best and introduce additional facilities if that will benefit the club. ¢ Community Engagement - led by Neil Gunn. Our community outreach work is up and running at the Douglas Sports Centre with ongoing events and programmes. e Good Governance - led by Iain Birnie. We achieved the Good Governance Award and look to maintain our SFA Platinum Club Status (or similar replacement). The Good Governance Award is the quality standard for Scottish Charities and is recommended by OSCR. The Award assesses an organisation’s overall governance and management.
Use of our facilities
The pitches have very full occupation by member clubs throughout the year with 100% of slots booked each evening over winter. Bookings at the Douglas Pavilion have increased dramatically as of November 2024, and we are looking forward to this increasing as our Community Engagement work develops.
Our facilities are also used by a number of local and national organisations - Grove Academy use it daily to support their project to help selected pupils who are struggling to engage with education. They also play their home games on our pitch.
Our work with Claypotts Castle Primary School has increased substantially this year with sessions at the school and at the Quest Arena. This is making a real difference to the kids and the feedback from the Head teacher continues to be excellent.
We obtained Extra Time funding, using this we have after schoo! classes with Ballumbie Primary School. We arrange food for the kids who also have access to the football facility, table tennis, pool, computer games and board games. Again, we are beginning to see the difference this can make.

Community Work
Community foundation:
This has the potential to enable us, as a HUB, to help our local community and help tackle local issues, such as employability, social isolation, poverty as well as supporting our local schools. Work has started on this.
Community Programmes
Family activities: thanks to CRF we are running a 6-week free family activities programme which will offer all the family free access to sport, arts and crafts and hot food each Saturday morning.
Greenfield youth work:
Thanks to support from DCC Youth work, we are supporting the Thursday night youth drop in at Greenfield academy, this is a 10-week block and aims to deliver diversionary football to over 100 young people.
Extra time Fund:
By being successful in the extra time grant process, we have been fortunate to work with pupils from Baliumbie PS who qualify for the programme where we can work to improve their self-esteem, physical and social well-being as well as offering them a hot, healthy meal each session. Sessions include football, table tennis, pool, computer games and board games. Hopefully the work we are doing will be recognised by being granted further funds to run the programme for an additional 12 months.
On top of this we have recently been awarded extra funds to deliver in-service day holiday camps to the pupils.
Quest Precision Engineering kindly contributed towards a mini-bus which takes the kids from the school to the Quest arena and back.
Schools:
We continue to strengthen our relationships with schools in the area and are delivering more sessions than ever at both Claypotts and Grove and have now created new opportunities in Ballumbie PS, Mill O Mains PS and Craigiebarns PS.
Christmas Toy Appeal
We held our first ever Christmas toy appeal for 2025 and were delighted with the donations that we received. This allowed us to deliver bags of gifts for children, who through a variety of circumstances, were facing Christmas with little or no gifts, one gift each for all our extra time pupils and over 10 bags of toys to our parent school Claypotts who were able to target families that neededa little support this Christmas.
Improvement Projects
The Club have continued to attract grant funding to improve the facility. New Dugouts have been made and we are in the process of improving the existing toilet facilities. A new kitchen has also been installed which the member clubs will have access to. Plans are also in place to paint the existing portacabins.
The 7 a side astroturf is now needing replaced and we are currently applying for additional funding to pay for this and are hopeful work will start on this during 2026. We held our first fund raising dinner at the Apex in November 2025, with a substantial amount raised that will go towards the 7a side pitch.

Gary Thain continues to head up the team and is doing an excellent job. Thank you to all staff.

Independent Examiner's Report to the trustees of Dundee East Community Sports Club SCIO
I report on the accounts of the charity for the year ended 31 May 2025 which are set out on pages 6 to 8.
Respective responsibilities of trustees and examiner
The charity’s trustees are responsible for the preparation of the accounts in accordance with the terms of the Charities and Trustee Investment (Scotland) Act 2005 and the Charities Accounts (Scotland) Regulations 2006. The charity trustees consider that the audit requirement of Regulation 10(1) (d} of the Accounts Regulations does not apply. It is my responsibility to examine the accounts as required under section 44(1) (c) of the Act and to state whether particular matters have come to my attention.
Basis of independent examiner’s statement
My examination is carried out in accordance with Regulation 11 of the 2006 Accounts Regulations. An examination includes a review of the accounting records kept by the charity and a comparison of the accounts presented with those records. It also includes consideration of any unusual items or disclosures in the accounts and seeks explanations from the trustees concerning such matters. The procedures undertaken do not provide all the evidence that would be required in an audit, and consequently I do not express an audit opinion on the view given by the accounts.
Independent examiner's statement
In the course of my examination, no matter has come to my attention:
-
1 which gives me reasonable cause to believe that in any material respect the requirements:
-
to keep accounting records in accordance with Section 44(1)(a) of the 2005 Act and Regulation 4 of the 2006 Accounts Regulations; and
-
to prepare accounts which accord with the accounting records and comply with Regulation 9 of the 2006 Accounts Regulations;
z which, in my opinion, attention should be drawn in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.
