HGWSD is a membership organisation aiming to cultivate, demonstrate and encourage the traditional skills of weaving, spinning and dyeing. Based in the Scottish Highlands we are open to all regardless of geography and include overseas members. In addition to monthly get togethers which are open to non- members to 'give-it-go' we attend the many rural shows and events across our geographical base. Here we demonstrate and exhibit and see many people become members through this route. Members participate in international events such as the Tour de Fleece run alongside the Tour de France to encourage regular spinning both as a creative skill and for the health benefits of crafting in company. Our monthly newsletter to all members keeps everyone in the loop across our enormous mostly rural area.

Objectives: 2.a To maintain our cultural heritage through the preservation of and continuance of our core crafts of weaving, spinning and dyeing. 2.b To be a repository for skills and knowledge related to our crafts, to share the skills and knowledge among our members in order to maintain an excellence of craftsmanship, and to promote our crafts among the wider community. 2.c to provide opportunities for the interchange of information for enlarging knowledge through workshops, demonstrations and talks. and 2.d to co-operate with other Guilds having like aims.
