RECRUITMENT AND APPOINTMENT OF TRUSTEES The eharity's Trustees are ak)wnted or rwpointed at the annual genernl meeting. in general meetings or by the existing trustees. GOVERNING DOcuMEr The charity is an unincorporated charity whose acknvities are govemed by its Constitutm dated 23 November 2¢)J8. CHARITABLE PURPOSES The principal 0.tIVe of the Ghanty is to advance the gJucatM)n of the public by eruragIng the study and performance of the music and disseminatiNJ infomiation on the life and works of Hans Gai. and to that end it organises and $upports concerts. recordings. lectures and similar activities. ACTIVITIES AND ACHIEVEMENTS In January 2025 the Hans Gai Souety was de1hted to finaneialty support the Brundibar Arts Festival in Gateshead for their staging of Hans Gal's intemment camp revue. 'IM)at a Lrfel.. alongside readings from his 1940 inlemment diary Music Behind Bartd Wre. Performers included baritone Simon Wallfisch arKI Norbert Meyn of the Royal College of Music," Meyn ha5 been instrumental in promoting numerous research prqects at the RCM on the intemment and on c¢Jnposers and musicians who fled Nazi Europe for Britain. The inspired performarKe al the Brundibar Arts Festival successfully brC9hI new audiences to Gal's music and to his characterful inlernmenl diary, copEs ofwhKh the &Kiety donated lo the perfomiers. The Society is grateful to all involved. Work continued in 2024-25 on the exciting project to release a professional recording of Hans Gal's second opera: Die Heilige Ente (The Sacred Dud(}, which was widety performed from its premiere in 1923 until Hillerfs acceSsft to peT in 1933. Indeed. il was the most successfvl WO in his lrfetime, making this first recording of it all the more Ignant. In March 2020 a fvlly-stajed revival of the opera was produced by Thealef H&delberg. Initially curtailed by Covid-19 to just one performance, rt was reprogrammed in late 2023 and the opportunity was taken to professionalty record the last tsvo live performances. A follcyw-up session was postponed until the lyjsy theatre was available. eventually taking place $u¢¢essfully in March 2025. The master of this recording is ncm complete and is with the label. CPO. The project should be finalised in 202&26. with funds currentty being held back to ensure all costs can be covered. Many thanks to all who have supported thi5 impcfflarbt project. The Hans Gal Soaety Contin to help musiciarts and concert organisers by publichsing concerts induding works by Gai via postal and email mailings and sooal media. The Hans Gai Society also acted as 8 hub and facilitator for musickgns looking to eSS sheet music, as well as for students researching his life and w0_ The Society maintains scoal media pw on FaCetk and X. and a website, www.hansgal.org. which includes a full database of works, bcoks. recordings and exlensive biography. The Society continues to appreu'ate the loyalty of existing members arKI acknowledges their vital rob in enabling the Society's ongoing work as an acts"ve, central hub for infomiation about the composerfs life and work.
ADMINISTRATION The charity has one administrator who receives a tcen horauM. The rest of Ihe charity's operalfrjns are undertaken by unpaid vdunteers. RESERVES The funds of the charity as at 30 September 2025 were readily accessible by the charity and were in the opinion of the Trustees SUffient to meet foreseele commitsnents. There were transaclions between the charity and related parties whrch were properly recorded. Mrs Eva Foxal is the dhlr of the compcw Hans G. Whibt she is entiued to rewve and does receive royaltses from Gal's musi¢, the trustees nSider that the egUoUS value of royatt$ from ¢lassical music renders them immaterial. Mrs Fox-Gal waived her nghts to IKence income arising from the staging of a Gai opera in 2017 and will do likewise for her share of any IKense fee for the current opera recording project. There is a potential indirect benefft to the Gal family members. who are a minority of the Irustees. arising from royalties rekled lo extemal events. Htrwever, the trustees remain sab'sfied Ihal any tneI is de minimis and that the role of the family does not in any way divert the charity from its objects. Miss Tanya Fox is the daughter of Mts Fox-Gai and receives an annual honorarium of £3,600 as part- payment for her services as the charity's ajminislrator.
