Report for Session 2024 / 2025 The 1st Bridge of Weir Company has three sections and is attached to Freeland and St Machar's Ranfurly Churches. As of 1st April 2025 it became Bridge of Weir Parish Church.
GIRLS Association
There were 18 girls at the outset in the GA last year who meet on a Monday evening.
Our girls are so enthusiastic each week and have thrown themselves into numerous activities including a very rainy photo scavenge hunt, our ever popular bonfire night with sparklers, a bonfire, hot dogs and s'mores; as well as joining the boys for Christmas Ten Pin Bowling.
We started each week learning about Jesus "I am..." sayings from the Bible using a variety of drama, story telling and illustrations.
With falling numbers since Christmas we have taken the difficult decision to merge the GA (Girls Association) with the boys BB sections to ensure fuller activities and a sustainable future.
Girls’ Association leaders are: Allison Livingston [OIC], Lesley and Allison Secker, Susan, Nadine.
Anchors (Primaries 1 to 3)
8 boys enrolled during the year: 1 in P1: 4 in P2; and 3 in P3.
There was a wide variety of activities. We have had a visit from Rhona's Rascals who brought chickens, guinea pigs and a Shetland pony for us to meet and learn about looking after. We have learnt about pandas, squirrels, elephants and lions as part of our 1

badge work as well as learning about the phases of the moon with Oreos which was very popular.
The boys have learnt new games and crafts as well as the ever popular dodge ball each week.
The Anchors enjoyed their own Christmas party as well as the company bowling night and soft play party in April to finish off the session.
The anchors leader in the new session are: Lorna [OIC],Moira, Lauren and Cailean helps out.
Juniors (Primaries 4 to 6)
The Section meets on Friday evenings in St Machar's Ranfurly Church Hall between 6.30pm and 8pm.
8 super keen boys were Junior boys this session. Our Bible lessons were based on God's Amazing animals. Topics and themes included Fair Trade, Light in the Darkness, Edible campfires, Music makers, Braille and binary code, Gladiators, If God were an emoji, Welsh dragons and Volcanoes. Along with the GA, we raised £215 for the Rotary's End Polio Campaign with our Purple Pinky quiz. A big thank you to all who took part in the impossible task of guessing which purple pinky belonged to each child.
We owe a huge thank you to Iain Sandilands who treated us to some brilliant music lessons this session, the results of which will be seen at the display.
Juniors: Susan [OIC] Ian and Sarah.
Company and Senior Sections (Primary 7 to 18 years)
Numbers have kept up well this year with 26 boys registered. Once again our boys had an action packed year, participating in the Nationals in football, badminton, table tennis and the quiz plus the Scottish BB Cross Country Championships. We were a whisker away from qualifying for the UK Senior football finals.
Our Christmas outing was Ten Pin Bowling instead of the usual Pantomime. This worked out well, involving the whole Company, so may be repeated. I am grateful to our guest speakers, Hanneke Marshall paid us two visits and led the boys in discussions about making life choices. Grant Sandilands gave us some important guidance in fire safety and Dave McDonald talked to us about Christian Aid. We will be doing a sponsored walk for that organisation on 1st June.
One of our Friday night was taken entirely by the Sergeants which was a good exercise in leadership. Many thanks to all officers and helpers who put in a lot of time and effort to create a varied programme.
Cailean Simpson also joined us as a leader this year and finished the KGV1 training scheme for young leaders.
Officers and Leaders
Brian Logie continues as the Company Captain. Company section leaders are: Brian [Captain, OIC], Craig, Cailean and Kenneth.
The success of the Company is very much dependant on the Officers and Leaders. We very much appreciate the efforts of all our Officers and Leaders and all new personnel will be made very welcome.
We also rely on parent helpers and this is a tremendous help to those running the various sections.

Financial Position
At July 2025, the closing bank balance was £924.56; down £983.67; from the start of the session when the opening balance was £1,908.23 £653.50 of expenditure towards end of July 2025 relates to a payment for the 2025 Christmas Ten Pin Bowling night which we will look to recover by a charge to the young people attending the event on Friday 5th December 2025.
There was no cash balance at the start or end of the year.
Income
Fees, Subs and Gift Aid amounted to £2,913 (2024: £2,475.25).
Expenditure
The overall appetite for activities resulted in continued expenditure on DOFE & Kings Badge events. The boys and girls also took part in a wide range of Battalion competitions across the year. In all, the sum of £5,359.59 was incurred (2024: £5,039).
The Christmas pantomime at the King’s was replaced with a Company wide Ten - Pin Bowling evening which proved to be 'self funding'; and will look to repeat in year ahead.
Next session we agreed to ask DofE participants to pay their registration fee when signing up to take part. All other costs of the programme being met from funds.
The year end recorded a Deficit of £983.67 (2024: Deficit £1,619.29). The Bank balance at 31st July 2025 is £924.56 which still leaves Company finances in a favourable position.
