Structure Governance & Management

Constitution:

The Charity was incorporated as a Private Company Limited by Guarantee on 25th October 2008 and registered as such with OSCR on 7th November 2008. Then on 23[rd] May 2017, the Scottish Charity Register was updated to show that conversion to a Scottish Charitable Incorporated Organisation had taken place.

Appointment of Trustees:

The Board of Trustees, which endeavours to meet at least three times a year, consists of the Charity’s Trustees. Membership of the Board is open to all Members of the Charity. Trustees are elected at the Annual General Meeting. Under the SCIO Constitution, there must be a minimum of three and not more than ten elected Trustees who are Ordinary

Members. The Trustees may co-opt a further three Trustees if they consider it would be in the interests of the Charity to do so.

Management:

The Trustees are responsible for the strategic direction and governance of the Charity whilst the day-to-day running of it is delegated to the Secretary.

Objectives & Activities

Charitable purposes:

These include benefiting the community of Lochalsh with the provision of recreational facilities and related activities. Whilst having a focus on education, citizenship and an awareness of the importance of the natural environment, a prime objective is to enhance young people’s prospects. Central to these endeavours is the running of the Lochalsh Youth Club in the Kyle Village Hall where a safe and secure meeting place is available for young people. There they can develop their own needs, thoughts and ideas free from the pressures of school and home.

Activities:

The Juniors Youth Club ran successfully between 18[th] January and 29[th] March. Unfortunately, the Seniors did not function at all because of a lack of appropriate staffing.

At a Board meeting on 18[th] August, the challenges of continuing with declining support for in LYCT’s activities were discussed extensively. In addition, disclosure requirements became a barrier to committing to opening the youth club in the winter months.

It was therefore decided that a ‘pause’ for a year or so should be instigated.

Apart from the independent well attended Rockman activity, there was no further action to report.

Approved by the Trustees and signed on their behalf by:

David Ashford Secretary 31st March 2026

Independent examiner’s report to the Trustees on the unaudited accounts of Lochalsh Youth Community Trust.

I report on the accounts of the SCIO for the year ended 31st December 2025 which are set out on pages 4 to 7.

Respective responsibilities of Trustees and independent examiner

The Charity's Trustees are responsible for the preparation of the accounts in accordance with the terms of the Charities and Trustee Investment (Scotland) Act 2005 and the Charities Accounts (Scotland) Regulations 2006. The charity trustees consider that the audit requirement of Regulation 10(1) (d) of the 2006 Accounts Regulations does not apply. It is my responsibility to examine the accounts as required under section 44(1) (c) of the Act and to state whether particular matters have come to my attention.

Basis of independent examiner’s statement

My examination is carried out in accordance with Regulation 11 of the Charities Accounts (Scotland) Regulations 2006. An examination includes a review of the accounting records kept by the charity and a comparison of the accounts presented with those records. It also includes consideration of any unusual items or disclosures in the accounts, and seeks explanations from the trustees concerning any such matters. The procedures undertaken do not provide all the evidence that would be required in an audit, and consequently I do not express an audit opinion on the view given by the accounts.

Independent examiner’s statement

In the course of my examination, no matter has come to my attention:

have not been met, or

2 to which, in my opinion, attention should be drawn in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.
