I report on the Accounts of the Chanty for the year ended 31 March 2025 which are set out
on the attached pages.

The charity trustees are responsible for the preparation of the Accounts in accordance with the
temis of th8 charit￿ and Trustee Investments (Scotland) Act 2005 and the Charities Accounts
(Scotland) Regulations 20(%.
e charity trustees consider that the audit requirement of Regulation 10(1)(a) to (c) of the
ccounts Regulations does not apply. It is my responsibility to examine the Accounts as required
under Secb'on 44{1 }{c) of the Act and to state whether particular matters have come to my attention.

My examination is carried out in accordance with Regulation 11 of the Charities Accounts
(Scotjand) Regulat￿nS 2006. An exarnination includes a review of the accounting records kept by
the Charity and a comparison of the Accounts presented with these records. It also includes
consideration of any unusual items or disclosures In the Accounts, and seeks explanats'ons from the
Trustees conceming any such rnatters. The procedures undertaken do not provide all the evidence
that would be required in an audi( and consequently I do not express an audit opinion on the
Accounts.

For the period 01.04.24 to 31.03.25
Reglstrats'on: Hawick Development Trust (fonnerly Future Hawick) is a Scottish
Charltsble Incorporated Organisation registered as such with OSCR effective from 1st
April 2015. The name change was approved by OSCR effective from 26th January
2024. The registration number Is SC039141.
Memberships: The Trust has memberships of Development Trusts Association
Scotland, South of Scotland Destination Alllance, Scotland's Towns Partnership, and
Borders Communlty Actlon.
Members: Membershlp of the Group currently stsnds at 168 Individual members and
6 group members.
Governance: Hawlck Development Trust Is governed by Its Constitutlon and Its Pollcles
(Equal Opportunities, Environment, Financlal Management, Dats Protection, Trustee
Recrultsnent, Trustee Code of Condu¢ Confllct of Interest, Health & Safety, and
Volunteering). An effettlve Board of Charlty Trustees is recruited through local medla
advertising and awareness promtion (unfalr discrlmination in selection is not
employed). Management meetings are held on a monthly basis with subgroup
meetlngs under the chalmianship of a trustee belng held as required wlth reports to
the Board.
Objectives: Hawick Development Trust is a non-profft maklng, distrlbuting, voluntsry
organisation whlch seeks to improve the well-being, quality of life, and opportunitles
of the people of Hawick and its environs by bringing together local community and
voluntsry organisations to work with public agencies to enhance the town's social,
cultural, rec￿ational, and educational facilities, together with its environment and
economy. To help these objectives Hawick Development Trust provides a resour
centre for administration, infonnation support, equipment hire, and meetings and Is
involved in local regeneration works and projects.

Main Acttvltles for 2024125: The year has been one of transition as far as completed
and new projects are concerned wlth primary efft)rts con￿ntrated as follows:_
l. Tourlsm:
The Hawlck Welcome strategy Is Insufflclert to sustaln tourlsm
development within the town and surrounding area. Meetlngs have
been held wlth tourlsm consultsnts and area tourfsm bodles to enable a
comprehensive strategy to be developed wlth optlons currently being
the subjett of further Investlgatlon.
The Trust has representstlon on the dedicated group set up to manage
the redevelopmert of St Leonard's Park.
2. Dlgltsl:
The Trust Is In the prc(ess of overhauling and Improving the Hawlck
Onllne webslte and assodated gKlal medla outlets to better sult the
needs of the town. A dedlcated Hawlck Development Trust we￿e Is
also currently under Investlgatlon.
3. Envlronment:
The Trust contlnues to dLwelop and press kottlsh Borders Councll for
Involvemert in its project to Improve street deanlng servFces In the
central area of the town. Work to trlal areas has proven very successfvl
and sodal ente￿rISeS capable of carrylng out the works have been
Identlfled.
The Teri Bike￿ project to promote eycling on and beyond the town's
actlve travel network has now been fvlly e&abllshed and Is being
managed and operated ty a separate dedlcated group.
4. Fabric:
Wlth the conditlon of unoccupied and derelltt bulldlngs partlcularly In
the central area of the town, the group has been prominert In plans to
brlng some buildlngs back Into use. The Trust has met wlth other
Interested partles and sought fvndlng for and commlssloned strurtural
and condltion surveys on propertles while also Investlgating possible
uses. Some propertles In which the Trust showed an Interest have been
sold to private individuals or listed for demlltlon but the group is
currently In negotlation to purchase a High Street property which will
allow a retsller to contlnue In buslness and avold staff redundanaes.

5. pla￿ Plannlng:
The Trust contlnues to play a pr(xnlnert role In the team whlch has
developed a pla￿ plan for Hawlck In conjunctlon wlth Scottish Border5
Coundl and South of Scotland Enterprlse.
6. General:
The Trust continues to meet wlth natlonal and local polltlclans,
counallor5 community counclls, and other publlc bodles to dlscuss local
Issues.
The Trust provldes meetlng and semlnar fadlltles for communty groups
and buslnesses.

There were no transactions between the Charity and any Trustee or person connerted
to a Trustee
2. Purpose of Restricted Funds
Hawick Welcome: A tourism initiative funded by grants and fundraising initiatives to
employ Hosts over the sumrner months to welcome visitors to the town and provide
information in respect of attractions, retail outlets, hotels, and restsurants.
b. Community Initiatives: Originally a grant from SBC for a pilot scheme to employ a consultsnt but
changed due to a change of council policy. Now a fund which has enabled the group to implement
new and supplement existing initiatives in line with the conditions of the award.
c. Rewilding Project: A project initiated to create wild meadow appearances on derelict areas of
ground within the town.
d. Teri Bikes: A project initiated to prornote cycling and tourism within the town and its environs
through the hire of e-bikes.
e. Town Team Adrnin: A project set up to involve community groups and organisations in coming
together to develop a place making strategy for the town.
