2024 AGM Chaimians report;
I started last years report by saying we were very disappointed to have failed in our attempts to get funding
for wndow repairs throughout the building, but that I was to go back and try different tactics and Instead of
window repairs I would use the present "environmental buzz words" to tick all the boxes that would allow
us to Install new PVC, heat and noise retaining windows throughout With the considerable help of Janice
Smith the hall put together an application for essential funding from The Clashindarroch Windfarm Trust (a
source who had helped us previously) to Install new windows with the addition of further heat retaining
blinds that I had been Impressed with on seeing them Installed at Gartly Community Hall,
After the disappointment of the April round of funding being cancelled we finally were granted our full
requested amount In the end of July much to our relief & delight After the 10 week manufacturing time
they were fitted by Pinefield Glass of Elgin In the past few weeks and are looking splendid . Horizon
Blinds also of Elgin are due to come for a final measure next week so that the blinds can be fitted as soon
as possible & certainly before the end of the year Both of these additions will ensure that our hall will be
better placed to serve the community for many years to come.
Another project that we undertook to help the Community wth the help of further funding sources was the
purchase of a Summerhouse to act a a 'Give & Take. facility where people can donate unwanted Items
like clothes, footwear, books, household goods and brica-bak that In turn can be uplifted for free by others
giving It a second chance rather In life than going straight to a waste facility Since being Installed and
painted by committee members It has certainly proved to be a very popular addition to the village and has
attracted the praise of many people both locally and fvrther afield for the whole concept of preventing
Unne￿SSary waste while helping less fortunate families
A start up "grant. of £500 helped us achieve another goal with a project idea that was put fO￿ard by
Elaine & Kim to help the Community by offering families and individuals the chance to meet with others on
a Saturday at a monthly "Coffee Morning ' In the main hall and backed up by user groups and outside
bodies providing fund raising opportunities & Items of interest in the small hall Although we haven't
attracted the numbers through the doors we hoped for, Rome wasn't built In a day and we are set to
continue with this service when It restarts In the New Year,
As you can see we have been pretty busy In our attempts Improve our much loved Rannes Hall and at the
same time trying to provide a facility that can be used by all and give our village a central venue that
supports every member of the community no matter their age or circumstance. To that effect combined
with our desire to provide a "place for all seasons" we have applied for still more 'cash" so that we can use
the hall as a ' resilience hub" that will offer heat, light, hot food & water along with much needed charging
points should winter or Inclement weather conditions mean electricity supplies are cut off for more than a
few hours Initial investigations and discussions have given us the informatson we needed to make an
application of Just under 7k to install a portable diesel generator that can power up the small hall and
provide the essential requirements should winter elements strike
Normal usage of the hall has continue throughout the year with income being generated from user groups
like the badminton club, mothers & toddlers along with the weekly post office and the newly started yoga
group. One off hires for various reasons including this yearfs General Election has also provided much
needed Income.
Finally a Ceilidh Night earlier in the year gave our funds a great boost when with the help of Ardmore
Distillery and Graeme Barbour of Alford along with a gift of local tatties from Alistair Hay made an
enjoyable night by all who attended and a profitable one for our committee.
This has been probably the most effective year our hall committee have had for a very long time and it has
made me feel that WE as a group have done such amazing things to support our community and we
should all feel very proud of our efforts to make the hall warmer, safer and more user friendly going
forward,
Two long standing committee members namely Ron Dawson & Steve Gordon have Intimated their
intention to step down at this AGM so I would like to take this chance to thank them very much for the
many years of service they have given to the up-keep of our hall.
A third committee member Judith Mitchell although hopefully not leaving us all together has decided to
relinquish her duties as Treasurer after many, many years in post, As you have seen from her final
financial statement Judith has kept a tight rein on our finances over the years and her policy of always
having something kept for a rainy day ensured we were able to continue the ownership of the hall through
some difficult times when others closed or went into council ownership. On a personal level as well as
being chairman I'd like to say thank her very much for her efforts and diligent accounting that has helped
me do my Job alongside her for the past 30 years,
David Grant (Chairman)
