Knox Church Perth is established by Constitution. It is a registered Scottish Charity (No. SC0382731
and is a Congregation of the Free Church of Scotland.
Alms and Afflllatlon
The Free Church of Scotland currently has around 100 congregations in Scotland, as well as
in London and five in North America, and sister Churches founded by mission work in India, Peru
and South Africa. The Church also has a full-time degree awarding seminary in the heart of
Edinburgh for the training of Ministers and other Christian workers and sustains an extensive
Missionary programme relative to the size of the church.
Dating from 1843 but with its roots in the Refomiation. it owes its distinctive title to its historical
struggle to remain 'free' from state interference in its intemal affairs.11 has dose and active relations
with many other Reformed churches of Jesus Christ throughout the world and stands firmly in the
tradition which accepts the Bible in its entirety as the Word of God and. therefore, derives its fomis
of teaching. worship. ministry and government from it. The main emphasis of our worship is the
preaching of the gospel - the good news of a free and sovereign salvation through Jesus Christ
alone.
The Free Church of Scodand is a Presbyterian church adhering in its worship and doctrine to the
position of the Church of Scotland at the Reformation. There is an explanatory document which
explains the origins of the Church and which gives the historical background to the Church coming
into being in 1843 and lists documents in which is embodied its constitution.
Knox Church Perth is a congregation of the national Free Church of Scotland working towards the
common aims set out above. The congregation is wthin the Edinburgh and Perth Presbytery and
is authorised by the Church to have a minister paid from the central funds of the Church.
Appolntment of Charlty Trustees
The Kirk Session exercises its discretion in determining the most appropriate method of electing
new Trustees (Elders and Deacons). Any election process must involve the communicant
membership of the congregation. There is no fixed tem for Trusteeship. Prior lo their appointment,
new Trustees would have served the Church for some time in various roles and would be familiar
wth the Church's values, its aims and objectives as well as its day-to-day operats'ons. As part of
their induction programme, new Trustees are required to understand their statutory responsibilities
as well as the responsibilities of their office within the congregation as elder or deacon.
Trusl8es and Offlce Bear8rs
The congregation is governed and administered by elected office bearers (all volunteers) and its
minister. The Kirk Session, comprising the minister, and elected elders, has responsibility for
spiritual oversight, whilst the Deacons, Court, comprising Kirk Session members plus elected
deacons. oversees financial and propety matters. Under Charity Law, the Deacons. Court are
deemed to be the trustees of the congregation as those with responsibility for daY-t￿daY
management and control. This is distinct from the role of property {Congregational) trustee5 who
are responsible only for holding property in trust. The Church building and the Ministerfs manse
are the property of the congregation and are held in trust by locally elected property

means of grace by which he converts sinners and builds up the members of the congregation in the faith and equips them for the work of ministry throughout their daily lives.

We meet weekly for prayer meetings to express our dependence on God and ask Him to be present with us, blessing us by his Spirit and that His word will be fruitful in all of our lives, in the lives of our neighbours and communities, in the lives of our political leaders and those in authority over us, not just in and around Perth, but for the church throughout our land, and for missionaries overseas in foreign fields.

In addition to that daily pattern and witness over our own lives, there are some activities that we do in an organized way as a church, as an addition to that foundational pattern. These include:

- Children’s Ministry

- Christianity Explored courses

- Outreach cafe on Tuesday mornings

- Mums and Toddlers Group on Friday mornings

- Monthly street evangelism

We look to the Lord for the increase and pray that he will bless the gospel through these various activities.

## **Reserves Results for the year**

**Independent Examiner’s Report to the Members of KNOX CHURCH PERTH**

I report on the accounts for the year ended 31 December 2024 set out on pages 3 to 7.

This report is made solely to the charity’s trustees, as a body, in accordance with section 44 (1)(C) of the Charities and Trustee Investment (Scotland) Act 2005. My examination has been undertaken so that I might state to the charity’s trustees those matters I am required to state to them in an independent examiner’s report and for no other purpose. To the fullest extent permitted by law, I do not accept or assume responsibility to anyone other than the charity and the charity’s trustees as a body, for my examination, for this report, or for the opinions I have formed.

## **Respective responsibilities of trustees and examiner**

The charity's trustees are responsible for the preparation of the accounts in accordance with the terms of the Charities and Trustee Investment (Scotland) Act 2005 and the Charities Accounts (Scotland) Regulations 2006 (as amended). The charity's trustees consider that the audit requirement of Regulation 10(1)(a) to (c) of the 2006 Accounts Regulations (as amended) does not apply. It is my responsibility to examine the accounts as required under Section 44(1)(c) of the 2005 Act and to state whether particular matters have come to my attention.

## **Basis of the independent examiner's report**

My examination is carried out in accordance with Regulation 11 of the 2006 Accounts Regulations. An examination includes a review of the accounting records kept by the charity and a comparison of the accounts presented with those records. It also includes consideration of any unusual items or disclosures in the accounts, and seeks explanations from the trustees concerning any such matters. The procedures undertaken do not provide all the evidence that would be required in an audit, and consequently I do not express an audit opinion on the view given by the accounts.

## **Independent examiner's statement**

Your attention is drawn to the fact that the charity has prepared financial statements in accordance with Accounting and reporting by Charities preparing their accounts in accordance with the Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland (FRS 102) in preference to the Accounting and Reporting by Charities: Statement of Recommended Practice issued on 1 April 2005 which is referred to in the extant regulations but has now been withdrawn.

I understand that this has been done in order for the financial statements to provide a true and fair view in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Practice effective for reporting periods beginning on or after 1 January 2015.

In connection with my examination, no matter has come to my attention:

- (1) which gives me reasonable cause to believe that, in any material respect, the requirements

- to keep accounting records in accordance with Section 44(1)(a) of the 2005 Act and Regulation 4 of the 2006 Accounts Regulations (as amended); and

- to prepare accounts which accord with the accounting records and comply with Regulation 8 of the 2006 Accounts Regulations (as amended)

have not been met; or

(2) to which, in my opinion, attention should be drawn in order to enable a proper understanding of o be reached.
