status of Charity and Governing Document
Garrabost Free thurch of Scotland is established by Constitution. Garrabost Free Church of Scotland (unL*r
the original name P￿nt Free Church of Scotsand) Lkcame a registered Scottish Charity (No. SC038120) on
26 Arxil 2007.
Alms and Affiliatlon
The Free Churd) of Scotland ojrrertly has around 100 o)TrJregations In scotland, as well as 2 in London
and 3 in North America, and sister Churches founded by mission work in India, Peru and South Africa.
Church also has a fL*II time degree awarding college in the heart of Edinburgh for the training of Ministers
and other Cthristian worfoers and sustsins an extensve Missionary programme relative to the size of t
church.
Dats'ng from 1843 but with its roots in the Reformation, it owes its distinth.ve b.tle to its historical struggle
to remain 'free' from State Interferen￿ in its interna1 affrdirs. It has close and athve relations with many
other Ref0M￿ churthes of Jesus Christ throughout the worfd and stands fimily in the traditron whi(h
aC￿pts the Bible in its entsrety as the Word of GOKI and. therefore, derives its forms of teaching, worship,
ministry and government from it. The Fnain emphasis of our worship is the preaching of the gospel - the
go￿ news of a free and sovereign salvation through Jesus Christ alone.
The Free Church of knttand is a Presbyterian Church adhering in its worshlp and dts*rine to the position
of the Church of Scotland at the Reformation. There is an explanatory document which explains the Origins
of the Church and which gives the historical background to the thurch coming into being in L843 and lists
documents in which is embodied its constrtution.
Garrab05t Free thurch of Scotland is a congregation of the national Free thurch of Scotland WOTkn"ng
towards the common aims set out atove. The congregation is within the Western Isles P￿sbYlery and is
authorised by the Church to have a minister pa￿ from the central fijnds of the (hurch.
The Church building and the Ministerfs manse are the property of the congregation. The building5 are not
under the Q)urth's Modd Tfust Deed.
Trustees •nd Office Beare
The Congregatson is uovemed and administered by elerted Offi￿ bearers and its minister, or Interim
Moderator in time of vacancy. The Kirk Sesgon, bwng the minister (or Interim Moderator) and elected
elders, has respJn5ibility for spiritual oversight, while the Deacons Court, composed of Kirk Sesson
members plus el￿ted Deacons, oversee financial and property matters. Under charity Law, the Deacons
Court are deemed to be the trustees of the congregation as those with the responsibility for day to day
management and contrd.

The congregatK)n now have a serf& Thinistry u[￿er Rev lain Thomson Sin￿ January 2021.
Our Sunday morning servi￿5 are held in the Main Road b￿lding and oijr evening serwces in the Schcol
Road txjilding. Atte[KIan￿ varies between 80 and 100 In the mornings and between 50 and 80 in the
evenings. Both Sunday seMces are livestreamed and are usually watched by 20 pEople over and atK
the in-FErson attendance.
The rnidweek Prayer Meeting and Bible Study Is held e￿h Wednesday alternatrng tktween both clMJrch
buitdings and when the meeting Is In School Road, it is also I￿e￿reaMed (via congregational link only). We
l%)ve an in-FEfg)n ￿tUrdaY evening prayer rrEeting each week and a&0 have a monthly Ear￿ Morning
Pr8￿r Meeting at 8.(Alawn MiCrothTea￿ts.
SuThJay School meets each SuTrJay during the morning servitr during schod term and is well attended with
ntlrnbers ranging from 14 to 20 each week, Duri￿ the summer holidays we held a &Jmmer &Jnday School
which was also well attended.
We support Var￿JUS organisations suth as Christan con￿rn, the ChrI￿"8n Institute. News for
Everyone (formerly the Gideon51 finanoally. Individuals support Compasgon as do wr sunday khool. Our
Sunday khc()l also have wee￿Y colktions to supp)rt selected organisations during the Y￿r. Individuals
alx) support ott*r miwcy) JJenae5 and we recewe communication from Slavic GoskEI, Dayone and others.
Some of our m*tings are tsken by representatNes of vanous missionary uganisations aTrd we always
d(¥)ate £300 forevery misyon org3nisalion that intwacts with us efcher at the prayer meeting or felbw5hip.
The Kirk Ses90n worked on a development plan whlch was presente(J fo the congregation at rhe annu31
rneeting. The pkn Is r83ularly re￿eWed and updated.

Road Manse and the Aird Mis&on House were ￿ld with the monies receThied. toJether with nominal values
of the Gairabost Manse and Church Hall teing shown in the tksignated Assets Fund. The total value of
the As*ts Fund as al 31 c*M￿r 2024 is £462,579 12023 - £452,219). In addition various Restricted
Funds are held. The total balance of Restne(ed Funds as at 31 D￿rter 2024 is £109,474 12023
£105,600). Totsl reserve5 Induding the rEt kxx)k value of fix￿1 assets and balan￿5 on ￿$triCted fvnds

l. Accounting Policies
Basis of preparing the finanoal strtements
The finanoal statements of the charity, whlch is a puuic benefit entity under FRS 102, have
been prepared in accordance wtth the Charities SORP IFRS 1021 'Accounts'ng and Reporting by
(harf(ies: Ststement of Recixnmended Practi￿ applicable to charitY2s preparing their accounts
in accordan￿ with the Finanaal ReE￿ing Stsndard applicable in the UK and RepU￿1C of
Ireland IFRS 1021 {effective l January 20151,, Financial Repo￿ng Standard 102 The Financial
RerK)rting Standard applicab￿ in the UK and RepuNic of Ireland. and the Charities aTrJ Trustee
Investment Iscodandl ALt 2005. The finanoal *atements have been p￿pare(s under the
historical cost convention.
The flnanoal statements are prepared in sterling which is the functional currency of the charity.
The trustees consider that there are no material uncertainties the chartys ability to
continue as a going concem. The trustees also consider that there are no si9nfficant areas of
J"udgen*nts, eskn.ft￿teS or key assumptions that aff￿ items in the accounts.
Church Income
All voluntary income and bank interest is accounted for when r￿1ved. Income from tax
recoveries on Gift Aid is accounted for on ttr￿ accruals basis.

Heritable property is stated at the Trustees'estimate of market value at the balan￿ sh&t date.
Uwn the joining of Point Free Church and Knock Free Churth the Heritsble proFerty which had
been owned by Knock Free Churth has now been introduced into the Garrabost Free church
Accounts with a revaluation value based uwn figu￿5 in the Knock Free Church aco)unts for
the year ended 31 D￿mber 2017. The churches have not been valued in view of the limited
market available and are not induded in the Balan￿ Sheet.
With the ex￿ption of heritable property, depreciation is provided at the following annual rates
in order to write off each asset over its esb"mated useful life.'-
