The purpose, principally for the benefit of the community living in postcode EH26, is to improve the vibrancy of community life. Our volunteers run regular activities in Penicuik: bike recycling. two events in the Town Hall each week – Cinema and the Open House social get together. Scotland’s premier paper making museum. the community garden and orchard. and Penicuik’s sharing library of tools and other things. In addition, the volunteers run a print and stationery shop at the charity’s headquarters building, which they also use to provide meeting facilities and workshops teaching heritage crafts. Many of the volunteers also support the Midlothian Climate Action Network and its practical initiatives to develop community solar and heating projects.

Objectives: Objects 4 The company has been formed to benefit principally the community of Penicuik which comprises those living in postcode EH26 (“the Community”) without distinction of any protected characteristic defined in Part Two, Chapter 1, of the Equality Act 2010 (age, disability, gender reassignment, marriage and civil partnership, pregnancy and maternity, race, religion or beliefs, sex, sexual orientation), by actions with the following objects: 4.1 to advance community development. 4.2 to advance education. 4.3 to advance the arts, heritage, culture and science. 4.4 to provide facilities, or assist in the provision of facilities, available to the members of the Community and to the public at large, for recreation and other leisure time activities in the interests of social welfare so that the conditions of life may be improved. 5 The company’s objects are restricted to those set out in article 4 (but subject to article 6). 6 The company may (subject to first obtaining the consent of OSCR) add to, remove or alter the statement of the company’s objects in article 4. on any occasion when it does so, it must give notice to the registrar of companies and the amendment will not be effective until that notice is registered on the register of companies.
