The Charities Objectives

GAMA's objectives shall be to advance the education of the public in the arts, in particular musical and dramatic arts, by the presentation of public performances and other related activities and in furtherance thereof to present at least one musical production each year. We will also show similar efforts in relation to our youth group, GAMA Youth.

Manner of Appointment of Trustees

New trustees are appointed by the group's members. The trustees are made up of the management committee of the unincorporated association who are elected at the annual general meeting normally held each year no later than the end of March. The office bearers of President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, are all annual appointments. The President can only serve for a maximum of 3 years. The other 7 members serve for 3 years before being put forward for re-election.

Achievements and Performance

We performed 6 performances of the musical ‘All Shook Up’ to a very appreciative, though small, audience. Our Youth group performed ‘Annie’, where again, the talents of the youngsters continue to surpass expectations. The National Operatic and Dramatic Association were very complimentary about both productions in a report given by their representative.

Reserves Policy

The reserves are held in order to ensure that there is sufficient resources to fund the next musical production which the association has planned to perform.

Financial Review

Principal sources of funding

Our principal source of funding is from our box office receipts, memberships and donations.

Results for the year

The Financial Statements show the total income for the year to be £48,270 and the total resources expended to be £59,921 resulting in a loss of £11,651.

Grant making policy

The Association will continue to make funds available for educational courses and has awarded funding to groups requiring assistance in the arts. Due to circumstances outwith our control no donation was given to St Columba's Church within this financial year. We also encourage our educational programme within our Youth section.

Statement on risk

The trustees assess the major risks to which the charity is exposed on an ongoing basis and have established procedures to mitigate those that are identified as a result of these reviews.

Trustees responsibilities

Under legislation relating to charities in Scotland, the trustees are required to prepare yearly Financial Statements which give a true view of the state of the Association's affairs and of its incoming resources and application of resources, including its surplus or deficit for that year, and which have been properly prepared from and are in agreement with accounting records of the Association and comply with relevant disclosure requirements.

In preparing those Financial Statements, the trustees are required to:

Select suitable accounting policies and then apply them consistently. Observe the methods and principles in the Charities SORP 2005 Make judgements and estimates that are reasonable and prudent.

State whether applicable accounting standards have been followed, subject to any material departures disclosed and explained in the financial statements;

Prepare the Financial Statements on the going concern basis unless it is inappropriate to presume that the association will continue its activities.

The trustees are responsible for keeping proper accounting records which disclose with reasonable accuracy at any time the Association's financial position and enable the trustees to ensure that the Financial Statements are prepared in accordance with the terms of the Charities and Trustee Investment (Scotland) Act 2005 and the Charities Accounts (Scotland) Regulations 2006 (as amended) and the provisions of the charity's constitution. The trustees also have a general responsibility for taking such steps as are reasonably open to them to safeguard the Association's assets and to prevent and detect fraud and other irregularities.

Independent Examiner's Report to the Trustees Of Glenrothes Amateur Musical Association

I report on the accounts of the charity for the year ended 30 November 2025 which are set out on pages 6 to 12.

Respective responsibilities of trustees and examiner

The charity’s trustees are responsible for the preparation of the accounts in accordance with the terms of the Charities and Trustee Investment (Scotland) Act 2005 and the Charities Accounts (Scotland) Regulations 2006.

The charity trustees consider that the audit requirement of Regulation 10(1) (d) of the Accounts Regulations does not apply. It is my responsibility to examine the accounts as required under section 44(1) (c) of the Act and to state whether particular matters have come to my attention.

Basis of independent examiner’s statement

My examination is carried out in accordance with Regulation 11 of the Charities Accounts (Scotland) Regulations 2006. An examination includes a review of the accounting records kept by the charity and a comparison of the accounts presented with those records. It also includes consideration of any unusual items or disclosures in the accounts, and seeks explanations from the trustees concerning any such matters. The procedures undertaken do not provide all the evidence that would be required in an audit, and consequently I do not express an audit opinion on the view given by the accounts.

Independent examiner’s statement

In the course of my examination, no matter has come to my attention

  1. which gives me reasonable cause to believe that in any material respect the requirements:

  2. to keep accounting records in accordance with section 44(1) (a) of the 2005 Act and regulation 4 of the 2006 Accounts Regulations, and

  3. to prepare accounts which accord with the accounting records and comply with Regulation 9 of the 2006 Accounts Regulations

have not been met, or

  1. to which, in my opinion, attention should be drawn in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.

The principal accounting policies, which have been applied consistently in the current and preceding year in dealing with items which are considered material to the accounts, are set out below.

Basis of preparation

The accounts are prepared in accordance with the Accounting Regulations set out under the Charities and Trustee Investment (Scotland) Act 2005, the Charities Accounts (Scotland) Regulations 2006, and with the Charities Statement of Recommended Practice 2005. The accounts are prepared on a receipts and payments basis, recognising incoming and outgoing resources as and when they are received or paid.

Nature and Purpose of Funds

Funds are classified as either restricted funds or unrestricted funds, defined as follows.

Restricted funds are funds subject to specific requirements as to their use which may be declared by the donor or with their authority or created through legal processes, but still within the wider objectives of the charity.

Endowment funds are funds which have been given on the condition that the original capital sum is not reduced, but the income there from is used for the purpose defined in accordance with the objects of the charity.

Unrestricted funds are expendable at the discretion of the trustees in furtherance of the objects of the charity. If parts of the unrestricted funds are earmarked at the discretion of the trustees for a particular purpose, they are designated as a separate fund. This designation has an administrative purpose only and does not legally restrict the trustees’ discretion to apply the fund.

Glenrothes Amateur Musical Association

Grants and Donations Payable

The association makes grants and donations to other organisations whose charitable objects compliment its work.

They are accounted for in the year in which they are paid.

Taxation

Glenrothes Amateur Musical Association is recognised as a charity for the purposes of applicable taxation legislation and is therefore not subject to taxation on its charitable activities. The charity is not registered for VAT and resources expended therefore include irrecoverable input VAT.
