Achievements and performance

Summary of the main achievements of the charity during the financial period

For our 2025 season, Rudsambee Company of Singers continued its programme of performances across Edinburgh, bringing choral music to a range of audiences and venues while also focusing on recruitment and community engagement. Our performances during the year included concerts at Canongate Kirk in June, St Giles’ Cathedral in September and December, New Town Church in December, and Rosslyn Chapel in January. As always, we were delighted to perform in venues with strong musical and community traditions, and we were grateful for the warm support we received from audiences throughout the season. It has been especially rewarding to perform as part of a growing series of daytime concerts offered by New Town Church as a moment of calm in the centre of the capital city. As ever, Rudsambee’s repertoire ensured a varied concert programme, and this year we performed unaccompanied choral music from almost every continent. In January, we performed a Robert Burns-themed programme which included settings of his poems by former members of Rudsambee. Alongside our concert programme, we held open rehearsals in April and August as part of our ongoing efforts to welcome new singers and encourage wider participation in choral music. These rehearsals provided an opportunity for prospective members to experience the choir in an informal and supportive environment, and helped strengthen our connections within the local community. The year has also continued to bring challenges, particularly around sustaining membership numbers and balancing the demands of rehearsal and performance schedules alongside members’ personal and professional commitments. Despite this, the choir has remained committed to maintaining high musical standards and to fostering the sense of friendship, collaboration and well-being that comes from singing together. We continue to enjoy sharing music with audiences across Edinburgh and beyond, and we look forward to building on this work in the coming year.

Financial review

Our policy is to hold sufficient resources to meet our regular costs (music, insurance, venue hire, director’s honorarium etc.).
	We performed at St Giles’ Cathedral for no fee as usual; any donations left in the collection boxes after our concerts go to the cathedral.
