Music in West Kilbride was formed in 1986 with the aim of providing professional music concerts in North Ayrshire of the same high quality as those in Glasgow. This is achieved through an annual series of six concerts - mostly classical but with jazz and traditional music also represented. For many years, we have received an annual grant from Chamber Music Scotland (and some other sources) requiring us to be diverse in our repertoire, and include under-represented composers. Besides our concerts, we encourage musical understanding and development in local schools, for example by inviting at least one ensemble per year to run interactive workshops for young people. We also own two grand pianos, whose tuning, maintenance/refurbishment and storage we fund. Our Steinway Grand is complimented by visiting pianists whilst our Challen is kept in West Kilbride Community Centre for community uses.
