4 Files 15:21 Sat 20 Dec 67% < CD BCDTYear End Report2024- 5 EDIT Over the last year, the village has seen a full calendar of social and fundraising events events. Last August, we hosted the Coldstream Ride Out, held a Festival Evening/ barbecue in place of the usual village fete, and the Flower Show was reinstated. October saw a return of the the Halloween Ghost Walk followed by a barbecue. The usual Remembrance Day service was held in November. In the run up to Christmas, there was a Craft fair, Christmas Carols in the Village Hall and a Community Christmas lunch. Monthly coffee mornings have continued to be well supported. Following the closure of the village pub in January 2024 we have held pub nights in the village hall including domino and quiz nights. These have ben popular. The various Clubs and Societies continue to thrive including the Wine Circle, the Film Club, the Gardening Club, the Sewing Circle, the Art Club, the Photography Club, Birgham Wishful Shrinkers and Birgham SWI. In September 2024, Birgham Village Artists held its second exhibition and the Photography Club held its first exhibition in October. This was successful and led to increased membership. Improvements have been made to the park, including additional equipment, a new pavilion and table tennis table. The Birgham in Bloom project has continued, involving about 40 volunteers in planting and tending to planters, grass cutting, and general village tidy ups.

4 Files 15:22 Sat 20 Dec 67% < CD BCDTYear End Report2024- 5 EDIT Achievements & Performance The village hall continues to be an important community hub which is well used for the various activities and events. These have been successful in generating income for village hall repairs and Birgham in Bloom. It is also available as a venue for hire and work has been undertaken to promote this more visibly. Given its importance as a community and fundraising venue, following some minor repair work, we took the decision to commission a Village Hall Condition Report which has formed the basis of a structured plan of works to improve the building and a broader Village Hall Development Plan. Some of this work has been funded through Borders Community Action. In partnership with Leitholm, Eccles and Birgham Community Council, we achieved c £35,000 of funding from SPEN and CARES to install in the village hall solar panels, battery storage and an air-to-air heating system. This is part of our work to future proof the hall and ensure that our range of events and activities can continue. Once again, Birgham was the overall winner in the Best Wee Village category of the SBC Greener Gateway awards, achieving a silver award. Financial Review Annual income - £24,247.06 Annual expenditure - £27,272.75 Money held in account & cash £6,681.89

4 Files 15:22 Sat 20 Dec 67% < CD BCDTYear End Report2024- 5 EDIT This year our income has increased due various reasons, one being a greater uptake of Hall rentals. Of our various events the monthly coffee mornings generated a 3 fold increase on last year & also the Christmas lunch made a 50 % increase in profit. Our BBQ event raised over £1500 & the Ghost Walk raised £216. The pub nights including the Film Quiz also boosted funds as well as being enjoyable for much of the community But the main increase in income was due to various grants from SPEN & the Plunket foundation. Our expenditure covers various repairs to the Hall, park & village in general, throughout the year but the main cost was in the installation of solar panels & batteries which was covered by grants received previously. A new heating system & dehumidifier is to be installed in the next financial year & again these costs are covered by various grants received.

4 Files 15:22 Sat 20 Dec 67% < (EI BCDT Year End Report 2024- 5 EDIT Plans for Future Periods We shall continue to develop the village hall as a community hub, including the coffee mornings, pub nights, and the various clubs and societies and to promote it as a venue for hire within the wider region. We shall future proof this through a continuing programme of improvements to the building. Our partnership with the Community Council gives us access to additional funding opportunities in the form of Community Benefits monies in relation to the Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) developments near Eccles power station. We shall also continue with our wider remit in terms of the village environment and further develop the Birgham in Bloom project and the village park.
