INDEPENDENT AUDITOR'S REPORT TO THE MEMBERS OF UCAN (GRAMPIAN) (CONTINUED)
Auditor's responslbllitles for the audit of the financlal statem
We have been appointed as auditor under seelion 4411)(el of the Charibes and Trustee Investrnent (Scotland)
Act 2005 and under the Companies Act 2006 and report in 8(xordance with the Act and relevant regulations
made or having effect thereunder.
Our objectives are to i)btain reasonable assurance about whether the financial statements as a whole are free
from material Tnisstalement, whether due to fraud or error. and to issue an Auditorfs report that includes our
opinion. Reasonable assuran￿ is a high level of assurance. but is not a guarantee that an audit conducted in
accordance with ISAS IUK} will a￿ayS detect a rnaterial missLknent when it exists. Misstatements can arlse
from fraud or error and are considered material rf, indiwdually or in the aggregate, they could reasonably be
expected to influence the economic decisions of users taken on the basis of these financial statements.
Irregularities, including fraud, are instances of non-compliance with laws and regulations. We design procedures
in line with our responsibilities, outlined above, to detect material misstatements in respect of irregularities.
including fravd. The extent to which our procedures are capable of detecting irregularitses. including fraud is
detailed below..
We identified the greatest risk of material impact on the financial statements from irregularities including fraud to
be:
Management override of controls to manipulate the Presentation of the charitable compan*s financial
statements.
Timing and complgteness of revenue recognition: and
Compliance with relevant laws and regulations directly impact the financial ststements, the Companies
Act 2006 and the Charities Accounts Iscowand) regulaticffls 2006.
Our audit procedures to reSp￿d to these risks induded:
Testing ofjoumal 9ntries and other adjustments for appropriaten9￿.
Evaluating the rationale of significant transactions (Njtside the normal course of business;
Reviewing judgements made by management in their calculatbon of accounting estimates for potential
managernent bias..
EnqLFiring of management about litigation and daims and inspection of relevant corresponden
Reviewing the minutes of meetings between the Board of Directors conducted during the year and
subsequent to the year end up to the date of approval of these finanaal ststemenls.
Reviewing legal and professional fees to identify indbcalh)ns of aclual or potential litigation. claims and any
non-compliance with laws and regulations: and
Perfomiing a disclosure checklist on the financial statements to ensure Companies Act 2006 and the
Charities Accounts {Scotlandl regulations Act 2006 requirements are satisfied.
Because of the inherent limitations of an audit. there is a risk that we ￿11 not detect all irregularities. including
those leading to a material misststement in the ffinanoal ststements or non-compliance with regulation. This risk
increases the more that compliance wrth a law or regulation is removed from the events and transactions
reflected in the financial statements. as we will be less likely to become aware of instances of non-compliance.
The risk is also greater regarding irregularities occurring due to fraud rather than eTror, as fraud involves
intentional concealment. forgery. collusion. omission or misrepresenlation.
A further description of our responsibilibes for the audit of the financial statements is located on the Financial
Reporting Council's website at.. VhVW.frc.
