ACHIEVEMENTS & PERFORMANCE

Monthly workdays with our volunteers continue to be well supported with many regulars attending most or all sessions. Volunteer numbers are growing, particularly in response to an advertising campaign on social media. Cake and chat after the work is done continues to be popular and enjoyable.

The volunteers have continued to maintain the Glen, covering a range of tasks including litter picking; edging paths and keeping them clear of leaves, branches and mud; treating wooden carvings, seats and picnic tables; weeding; mulching; pruning; and planting trees, flowers and bulbs.

A trellis was erected in one of the car park gardens thanks to a grant from Alva community Council.

A new bench was erected around the oak tree following the demise of the previous one through vandalism and old age.

Photos and a summary of work done is posted on the AGHT Facebook page after each work session.

The continued closure of the path leading to the upper glen has restricted activities in this area. It is possible to reach the upper glen via a path west of the burn but the steepness of a section of this route makes it difficult to transport

Glen Life

The Northen Brown Argus colony in the upper glen continues to flourish. A survey in July found 60 eggs.

The sticky catchfly also had a good year with 140 flower spikes recorded.

Reserves Policy

The reserves at the year end are £9,194 £ (2023: £6,257). The trustees agree that they require to hold at least £3,000 in reserves. The trustees have presently met their target and the surplus monies will continue to be used to invest in maintaining the glen.

INDEPENDENT EXAMINER’S REPORT

Independent Examiner's Report to the Trustees of Alva Glen Heritage Trust SCIO

I report on the accounts of the charity for the year ended 31 December 2024, which are set out on pages 8 to 11.

Respective responsibilities of Trustees and Examiner

The charity’s trustees are responsible for the preparation of the accounts in accordance with the terms of the Charities and Trustee Investment (Scotland) Act 2005 ("the 2005 Act") and the Charities Accounts (Scotland) Regulations 2006 (as amended) ("the 2006 Regulations"). The trustees consider that the audit requirement of Regulation (10)(1)(d) of the 2006 Regulations does not apply.

It is my responsibility to examine the accounts under section (44)(1)(c) of the 2005 Act and to state whether particular matters have come to my attention.

Basis of Independent Examiner's Statement

My examination is carried out in accordance with Regulation 11 of the 2006 Regulations. An examination includes a review of the accounting records kept by the charity and a comparison of the accounts presented with those records. It also includes consideration of any unusual items or disclosures in the accounts, and seeks explanations from the trustees concerning any such matters. The procedures undertaken do not provide all the evidence that would be required in an audit, and consequently I do not express an audit opinion on the view given by the accounts.

Independent Examiner's Statement

In connection with my examination, no matter came to my attention:-

  1. which gives me reasonable cause to believe that in any material respect, the requirements

  2. to keep accounting records in accordance with section 44(1)(a) of the 2005 Act and Regulation 4 of the 2006 Regulations, and

  3. to prepare accounts which accord with the accounting records and comply with Regulation 9 of the 2006 Regulations

have not been met, or

  1. to which, in my opinion, attention should be drawn in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.
