ACHIEVEMENTS & PERFORMANCE

When talking about performances, and participation of our members, it has been a busy year. After the jittery footsteps of the first couple of years after Covid, we feel that things have settled, and audiences feel more comfortable returning; our big concern is the lack of free money as economic hardships hit the purse strings. There is a constant equilibrium to be struck between what we offer, what our ticket price is, and what our audience members can afford to pay. So, we try to up our performances, offer good scripts and improve the theatre experience.

Miss Marple took to the stage in “A murder is Announced” with numerous plaudits received from the audience goers. “Saw the show tonight and enjoyed it immensely... very impressed with the stage set. Just perfect...”” was the comment from one seasoned theatre goer and playwright.

Just over a month later, our Youth Theatre took a trip down the rabbit hole with “The Doctor in Wonderland” where the Doctor and his assistant met the evil Queen of Hearts. Then in September, MAD boldly stepped into the world of Baldrick, Lord Percy, Captain Darling and of course Blackadder himself. Although very well-known characters and scripts and daunting to emulate on stage, the actors embraced the challenge, and MAD produced a resounding success with almost full houses every night.

And so, onto Panto time with our version of “Puss in Boots”. As usual, fun and frolics for all before the new year heralded a change of gear and we presented the classic “Dial M for Murder” in March. Another highly successful show with a great set and great acting and atmosphere.

At the time of writing, the members have just completed “A Bunch of Amateurs” - no reflection on their abilities — but a comedy co-written by {. which carried on (no pun intended) our recent run of successes. Unfortunately, due to circumstances out with our control, the second week of the run had to be postponed by one week which meant that it leaked over into July, spanning two financial years just to complicate things!

But what have we done to improve the audience's experience? In May 2025, we had our old, suspended ceiling replaced and the tired, outdated downlighters replaced with bright, modern LED lights. The auditorium has been transformed! We couldn’t believe how tired and dirty the old ceiling had become and how much it influenced the feeling of the auditorium. We now havea bright, well-lit and welcoming space in which the audience can enjoy the shows.

Structurally, we’ve had our basement walls strengthened, and a recent valuation completed on the property. We are just waiting for the latest play to finish before the reception area into a more welcoming and functioning facility. Similarly, we are going to tackle the Green Room area to make it more appropriate for modern requirements.

We have worked hard to implement the financial improvements to our systems in conjunction with the Treasurer and Fundraising Manager. Our financial position is stable and we are managing things well.

It’s not all been hard work: we’ve had games nights, our now infamous Christmas Party and some very enjoyable after-show parties. With the rejuvenation of our local Gala Day we have become known for

ACHIEVEMENTS & PERFORMANCE contd

face-painting at our stand on the day where we also promote the theatre and the work of MAD. Not that we’re biased but it’s also good to have one of our members MC the day too!

It’s worth mentioning too the involvement we foster with the local UPW (Community Service) team. We work with them in providing the opportunity for the team to come into our theatre and set (then remove) our seating. They in turn get the chance to enter somewhere they would never normally go when they frequently ask questions about what we do and what’s on, or why; a fantastic occasion to engage and to talk.

Lastly, a mention for the widened interests our members have in other Companies. We have had participants contribute to shows with Broughty Ferry Amateur Operatic Society, Tayside Opera, Abbey Theatre Club and the Edinburgh Fringe. Congratulations to them all.

MONIFIETH AMATEUR DRAMATICS - $C036381 INDEPENDENT EXAMINER’S REPORT TO THE TRUSTEES

I report on the accounts of the charity for the period ended 30" June 2025 which are set out on pages 8- 12.

Respective responsibilities of Trustees and Examiner

The charity’s Trustees are responsible for the preparation of the accounts in accordance with the terms of the Charities and Trustees Investment (Scotland) Act 2005 and the Charities Accounts (Scotland) Regulations 2006. The charity Trustees consider that the audit requirement of the Regulation 10(1) (d) of the Accounts Regulations does not apply.

It is my responsibility to examine the accounts as required under section 44(1) (c) of the Act to state whether particular matters have come to my attention.

Basis of Independent Examiner’s Statement

My examination is carried out in accordance with Regulation 11 of the Charities Accounts (Scotland) Regulations 2006. An examination includes a review of the accounting records kept by the charity and a comparison of the accounts presented with those records. It also includes consideration of any unusual items or disclosures in the accounts, and seeks explanations from the Trustees concerning any such matters. The procedures undertaken do not provide all the evidence that would be required in an audit, and consequently I do not express and audit opinion on the view given by the accounts.

Independent Examiner’s Statement

In the course of my examination, no matter has come to my attention

  1. Which gives me reasonable cause to believe that in any material respect the following requirements have not been met: - To keep accounting records in accordance with Section44 (1) (a) or the 2005 Act and Regulation 4 of the 2006 Accounts Regulations, and - To prepare accounts with accord with the accounting record and comply with Regulation 9 of the 2006 Accounts Regulations.

  2. To which, in my opinion, attention should be drawn in order to enable a proper understanding of the Accounts to be reached.
