Activities

'It carries out activities or services itself'

'the advancement of education'

Our charity exists to disseminate peer-reviewed research and scholarship, making academic knowledge accessible to students, researchers, and the public. We publish in areas underserved by commercial publishers — niche disciplines, developing world scholarship, and open access titles where profit is not viable. Our surplus is reinvested into our charitable mission rather than distributed as profit. Editorial decisions are made on scholarly merit rather than commercial considerations, ensuring we serve academic and scholarly communities rather than shareholder interests. We also provide open access funding support to authors who lack institutional or grant funding, enabling research to be published freely available to all rather than behind a paywall.

Beneficiaries: 'Children or young people','Older People','Other defined groups'

Objectives: To promote and advance education: (1) by printing, publishing, binding, editing, compiling, buying, selling, distributing, exporting and importing books, papers, catalogues, reports, magazines, journals, pamphlets, circulars, binders, cassettes, databases, CD ROMs and other electronic publishing products. and (2) by covenanting or otherwise contributing money to Edinburgh University (provided Edinburgh University continues to be recognised as a charity for tax purposes).
