Chairperson's Report 2024-2025
Over the past year we have lost 8 director, Blll Morgan, due to health reasons but a new dlreclor,
Margaret Ross, was appointed at the last AGM, thu8 ensuring we hav& a quorum. The board has
always been fortunate in securing a good team of volunt&ers and this year ha$ been no dlfferent, thus
ensurlng stability in the running of the visitor Snformalion and resource ¢entr6.
From a financial aspect thls has again been a very succ8ssful year. Al the start of the year custom to the
Coltage came from local people but the summer $8ason Saw the number of visitors from the UK and
abroad 8te8dlly increasing.
Locally mad8 craft goods, In parti¢ular cushions and bags, have conlinued to prove very popular wllh
vSsitors and locals allke. The board18 very fortunate in having a local crafts person who conllnually
updates her cushion and bag designs. Calendars of the local areas always sell well too. In Apiil the
Cottage held a coffee momlng In the local Church hall and 80me of the volunteers also altendecl fairs In
Dufftown 2nd one In Keith during the 8umm8r season. Our sales tabla at Tea in the Park was also a
great success. Sales online have also proved to be popular. As staled last year h8vlng a card machine
ha8 b8en a great boosl to the sale of goods overall.
The Coltage continues to prSnt The Rothesian n6wslell8r, th8 Aberlour Kirk News and the RHIS Flowér
Show programmè, as well as printing requests from other groups and indivlduals. In addition, the
Cotlage continues lo hire out the premises lo groups for meetlngs. All In all the success of the Cottag818
down to th@ dlverse seNlces it providès to th8 local community and beyond.
Thi8 year The Rotheslan. with th6 approval of the Rothes Council, becam6 a sub-committe8 of Rolhe8
Community Limlted a8 the people Involved in publlshing the newsletter are all members of Rothes
Community Limited.
In the summer of 2025 Fred 018en Renewables asked by flyer and the local website rf any group8 or
individuals ware interested in using the former pub,'The Vic. The deadline for applications Wlth
proposals for its use was 3 October 2025. Three parties have expressed Inte￿6t in using The Vlc.,
Roth88 Communlty Limited, Rolhes Councll and Richard Forsyth jr. Plan8 have been fO￿arded to Fred
Olsen Renewabl8s and we are now awaiting a response from them.
For the coming year the board of directors have agreed that the electric consumèr unlt needs replaclng
as the current one is not up to standard. With regard to the heating, drector8 were shocked al the huge
cost of the bllls, especially over the winter months, and as a result they are Investigating various
av&nues lo improve the Issue. Once we hav8 all th6 information we need, we, the board of directors, will
lake action to addres8 thls.
As chairperson I would Ilke to thank the volunteers. They regularly give up thelr lime to ensure the Visitor
Cgnlre Is open and welcorning to all who vislt, as w811 as helping with such tasks as printing and the
display of goods. Thanks also goes to th8 board of d5r8ctors for th8ir support and Input for
