Achievements and performance

Summary of the main achievements of the charity during the financial period

The Hall is busy every weeknight but less frequently on the weekend. It is less busy during the day weekdays, but busy during the day at weekends (sales of work, sports, events, parties).

The Hall is used as a gym by the local primary school and for any other activities that they require a large reception area such as their annual panto and end of term assembly.

Within this financial period, the Hall received funding from The Lochcarron Highland Games. Funds were also received from the family of the late Mr Macpherson who was an avid supporter of the hall, and the family encouraged people to donate to the hall as part of his legacy. The committee also undertook regular fundraising activities throughout the year.

We endeavour to provide for the needs of the community. There are timing conflicts as some groups tend to plan their events and then book the Hall as opposed to checking availability first; however, this is getting better as the hall becomes busier and we are looking to move our booking online in the coming months which will create better visibility for everyone. During the current period, the hall has been an essential facility for the monthly market days, hosting local producers and traders. In Sept 25, the hall was the main host site for Tartan Week Lochcarron – the inaugural event of this annual community festival. We continue to host local sports clubs (inc basketball, kids football, short tennis and badminton); yoga, circuit training, Zumba classes, mothers and toddlers groups, drama clubs, music events and ceilidhs.

The association strive to keep the Hall as a well-maintained structure, with the current focus on the roof repairs which are now under way. The association devotes a lot of their time to fundraising events, to cover the ongoing costs of repairs and ~~maintenance as required~~

Financial review

Brief statement of the charity’s policy on reserves

The Hall endeavours to maintain a balance of at least £5,000 to cover unexpected repairs. The Hall is owned by Highland Council, however they take no interest in it and no longer even have a liaison officer. We understand that it is the association’s responsibility to carry out any remedial works as part of the lease of the building from the Highland Council

Details of any deficit

Donated facilities and services (if any)

A combination of extensive fundraising and local donations from the community have helped us raise funds to help with extensive remedial maintenance works on the building to keep the hall open for the community.
