Charitable purposes Summary of the main activities in relation to these objects |
|
| To promote traditional bagpipe & drum playing. We compete under the auspice of the Royal Scottish Pipe Band Association (RSPBA) by the presentation of public performance and other related activities. Giving local and national youth the opportunity to learn, educate & play in a Scottish Pipe Band, thereby encouraging & enabling them to advance from Novice Juvenille to Grade 1. |
|
| We are a self-funding organisation and during the course of this financial year we have continued to provide in person tuition and practicing. Practice meetings take place 2-3 times a week for all levels. This covers complete beginners to experienced players over all age groups. All tuition is provided by dedicated tutors and experienced playing members. All tuition is provided by volunteers. Public performances by both bands in support of local gala days (West Lothian). Both bands competing at R.S.P.B.A organised competitive events. |
Achievements and performance
Summary of the main achievements of the charity during the fiancial period |
|
|---|---|
| We have 2 bands competing – Novice A and Grade 1. In recognition, our organisation still maintains a regular practice schedule, meeting twice per week as standard and increasing to three times per week in preparation for Major competitions. Other notable musical achievements were the opportunities playing at the Avenches Tattoo & playing at Scotland Rugby home games at Murrayfield. The Novice A band also performed at various gala days and processions throughout West Lothian. Our organisation continues to be approached to support with high profile events such as those noted above not just for our professionalism but also for our reputation of housing the best young talent performing at the highest levels. We are very fortunate to be offered such opportunities. Our organisation takes a deliberate decision not to send our most senior bandsmen and women to these events. We use these opportunities both as motivation and as reward for practice and dedication. During 2025 we were able to maintain a sponsorship deal with People’s Ford to the value of £10,000. This support has helped towards funding additional band practices, replacing equipment and various items of kit. The financial security this sponsorship has provided since 2014 has allowed our playing leadership to focus their efforts in to developing our band. We are seeing all bands achieving success on the competition field. A lot of hard work goes in to running our organisation which is entirely run by volunteers. Our leaders (both musical and committee) regularly come together to review our finances, policies and plan for the following year. We are confident we have laid the foundations for a successful 2026 season and that the future of our organisation is secure for a further year. The band has produced an album in the year which is available for purchase on our website and reflective of the playing standard of the band. Both bands had successful results during the year with the Grade 1 band placing at all major championships and the Novice band obtained prizes at our local contests in the stepupinto the highergrade. |

Notes to the Accounts for the year ended 30 September 2025
1. Basis of accounting
These accounts have been prepared on the Receipts & Payments basis in accordance with the Charities & Trustee Investment (Scotland) Act 2005 and the Charities Accounts (Scotland) Regulations 2006 (as amended).
2. Independent examination
The role of the independent examiner is to provide an independent scrutiny of the accounts each year. To maintain public confidence in the work of charities, charity law sets out the reporting, filing and external scrutiny obligations on trustees.
3. Nature and purpose of funds
Unrestricted funds are those that may be used at the discretion of the trustees in furtherance of the objects of the charity. The trustees maintain a single unrestricted fund for the day-to-day running of the charity. Restricted funds may only be used for specific purposes. Restrictions arise when specified by the donor or when funds are raised for specific purposes. During the year, no restricted funding was received.
4. Grants received
No grant funding was received during the financial year.
5. Trustee remuneration
No honoraria or any other payments of remuneration were made to office bearers during the financial year.
6. Trustee expenses
Five (2023/24: three) office bearers were reimbursed for payments totalling £4,869 (2023/24: £4,494) which they paid personally on behalf of the charity during the financial year.
7. Transactions with trustees and connected persons
No transactions between the charity and any charity trustee or person connected to a charity trustee (a connected person) took place during the financial year.
8. Concert
During the prior financial year, the organisation performed at a concert at the Glasgow Royal Concert Hall. In the current financial year, an album has been produced for this and is now available to the public for purchase through that of a digital download or CD. The organisation’s future costs in respect of the concert will be limited to that of CD production. The net position over the past two years in respect of the concert and its income and costs is a small deficit which should be eliminated through future sales of the digital download and CD.
